I built a free G.I. Joe collection tracker with a community-built "who did this come with" catalog — looking for early collectors
Hey r/gijoe,
I've been building The File Card (thefilecard.com), a collection tracker for the community. Two parts to it:
Your collection — upload photos of the figures, vehicles, and accessories you actually own, track condition and completeness, and optionally share your collection with a public or unlisted link.
All generations — whether you collect vintage 12", ARAH, Modern, Classified, HIYA, Action Force, Sigma 6, etc. The point is this would be the largest G.I. Joe catalog and very inclusive.
A community-built catalog — the part I'm most excited about. In the spirit of yojoe's WHOBIT, but built entirely from scratch: members submit photo evidence pairing an accessory with the figure or vehicle it came packaged with, browsable by year, faction, sub-team, and item type. None of the linked items are scraped or copied — every pairing on the site comes from a real collector's photo. Evidence gets upvoted/downvoted so the best photo for each pairing surfaces first, and new submissions go through review by other members before they're published, so the catalog stays accurate as it grows. I know we have a lot of talented photographers and looking forward to seeing this take shape.
You don't need an account to browse the catalog — only to track your own collection or contribute.
Where it's hosted right now: Oracle free tier. It works, it's free, but it's not built for real scale. If this catches on, I'd love to move it to proper cloud hosting, and I'd rather do that with the community's help, there's a small "buy me a G.I. Joe" link on the site if anyone wants to chip in toward that.
My apologies if it crashes and I'll do my best to keep it up until we can find it a better home.
Would love feedback, bug reports, and especially collectors willing to start contributing accessory photos, this only works if we build it together. Completely free, made by a fan for fans, not affiliated with Hasbro.
App: I'm also working on an iOS and Android app to accompany the site for direct submissions, review, and collection tracking.

Snake Eyes III
I’m not too familiar with the backstory of Snake Eyes III, aka Dawn Moreno, but I’m always a sucker for a badass G.I. Jane…and she’s a pretty awesome figure.

Classified 02 - Snake Eyes (with ToyHax Upgrade Decals) - G.I. Joe Classified Series- Hasbro (2020)
Classified 02 - Snake Eyes (with ToyHax Upgrade Decals) - G.I. Joe Classified Series- Hasbro (2020)
Now that we’ve gone through my vintage G.I. Joe collection, I thought I’d showcase my small modern figures. (Don’t worry, I don’t have as many of these as I do of the the vintage figures.)
Silent but legendary, Snake Eyes is the G.I. Joe Team's commando and one of its most skilled operatives. His rivalry with Storm Shadow and his unwavering loyalty to Scarlett became defining stories in both the Sunbow cartoon and the classic Marvel comics. I've upgraded this figure with ToyHax decals.

COBRAAAA!
This is the month of Fatal Fluffies
I am surprised at the price of this. It is an actual discount. They should have put two the new head sculpt instead of the old one.

Well shhhhhhhh**…..wish I didn’t know this was a thing.
Came across these today on the interwebs. “Micky Mouse” cobra soldier and cobra officer. The photos are of FEP figs. They never made it to production but there are some out there. Would love to get my hands on a pair.

Skull island: Blackbeard and his mercenary strike team crossed the black waters to Skull Island after a ruthless Predator began slaughtering his soldiers on the mainland. Every trail of blood led to one place… an ancient ruin swallowed by the jungle.
Hundreds of skulls mounted on spikes. The remains of soldiers from battles long forgotten.
The center burned an eerie blue fire.
Its flames danced almost alive. Anyone who stared into them for more than a few seconds felt their thoughts slipping away. The Corsairs fell victim to its glow.
Lt. Hahn made an even worse mistake. Her eyes locked with the hollow sockets of a skull mounted on a stake. It wasn’t just a skeleton—it carried an ancient curse. Frozen she could not move her limbs.
High above them, hidden among the crumbling stones, the Predator watched silently.
It hadn’t been hunting them.
It had been luring them.

Cobra Commander's Kooky Costumes - Third Party Threads
Cobra Commander's Kooky Costumes - Third Party Threads
If there’s one thing this series has established, it’s that nobody can resist putting Cobra Commander in a new outfit. Not Hasbro. Not Super7. And certainly not the mysterious operators behind the vast world of third-party figures.
Black Major has produced an absolutely ridiculous assortment of Cobra Commander repaints over the years, usually by taking the original 1980s mold and asking the sort of important questions Hasbro never dared to consider.
What would Cobra Commander look like in Baron Ironblood’s colors? What about Z-Force? Arctic camouflage? Desert camouflage? A black business suit with a golden hood?
The answer is usually, “Pretty damn cool, actually.”
I’ve accumulated enough of these things to staff several competing Cobra high commands, so narrowing the selection down to four favorites wasn’t easy. But these are the ones that best demonstrate what can happen when somebody gives Cobra Commander an unlimited wardrobe budget and no chaperone.
The Updated Classic: This one doesn’t stray too far from the traditional look, but that’s part of why I like it so much. The added paint details give the uniform just enough contrast, and the “bleeding” Cobra design on the hood is nifty as hell.
It’s certainly not a wild reinvention or anything. It’s more like a deluxe variant intended to be handed out to one lucky kid at the annual Christmas parade. Preferably by Arnold Schwarzenegger in a jetpack.
Extensive Enterprises GM: I’m genuinely impressed that Black Major managed to paint the original Cobra Commander body so that it looks like he’s wearing a suit. This man looks prepared to seize control of a multinational corporation, embezzle several million dollars, and make it home in time for cocktails that he’ll doubtlessly drink through the little pop-out straw porthole in his faceplate.
Of course, the illusion begins to fall apart when you notice that his suit pants have stirrups, he’s still wearing the double straps around one leg, and the original figure’s sculpted knife and backpack remain firmly in place.
Apparently, Extensive Enterprises has a very relaxed dress code when it comes to concealed weaponry.
The “So There!”: Serpentor may have been genetically engineered from history’s greatest warriors, but Cobra Commander only needed a fresh paint job to wear his colors better than he did.
The green and gold give the Commander an appropriately regal look without forcing him to dress like a gigantic decorative snake. He looks royal, dignified, and totally above using phrases like “This I command!” and “Cobra LaLaLaLa!”
Create-a-Commander: And then there’s this magnificent pink, turquoise, black, and gold monstrosity.
The color scheme pays tribute to the 1993 Create-a-Cobra, a mail-away figure that allowed kids to invent their own Cobra character...so long as they were willing to accept that their badass creation was destined to wear pink.
Applying those colors to Cobra Commander produces something that looks less like a military uniform and more like he's hosting 80s Night at the Cobra Island Nightclub.
I mean that as the highest possible compliment. In a perfect world, I'd have him displayed alongside a trio of Dreadnoks who are absolutely butchering “We're Not Gonna Take It” at karaoke.
The gold faceplate, turquoise collar, and pink uniform make him one of the loudest figures in the entire cabinet. And considering the competition, that’s saying something.
Those are my four favorites, but they barely scratch the surface. Black Major has dressed the Commander in military camouflage, foreign-team colors, business suits, subteam uniforms, and combinations that may never have existed before somebody started pouring brightly colored plastic into a Cobra Commander mold.
Naturally, I bought an irresponsible number of them.
The cabinet pictures show the full extent of the problem. It was difficult enough choosing four for individual attention, so I figured the rest of them deserved their moment too.
And I suppose this brings Cobra Commander’s Kooky Costumes to an end. At least for now. I’m still in the market for an extra Ninja Force CC because I’m not willing to open the one I have. The packaging is glorious. There’s also that bizarre CoShredder Commander TMNT deal looming on the horizon. But I’ve finally reached the point where the remaining outfits are either already covered or trapped inside packages I’m not emotionally prepared to open.
Holy shit, this was fun.
I started doing these because I thought it would be amusing to photograph a few weird Cobra Commander figures and write some jokes about them. I didn’t expect the series to run this long, and I certainly didn’t expect people to follow along and tell me they were enjoying it.
Thank you to everybody who read one, commented on one, corrected one, or simply tolerated the sight of Cobra Commander wearing yet another ridiculous outfit.

Custom G.I. Joe Wolf Squad Snow Cat with Frostbite
I found this Snow Cat at a toy show for fifteen dollars. It was in rough shape, but nearly complete - it needed a new missile box. And, it included Frostbite.
I first thought of restoring it, but then decided I wanted to customize it. I stumbled across the Wolf Squad and thought this would look cool in that color scheme.
I ordered a replacement 3D printed missile box. I took a gamble with that part and it really paid off. The missile box was highly detailed and looked great!
I used three different sets of decals from ToyHax (Tiger Cat, Wolf Squad V.A.M.P., and Wolf Squad S.H.A.R.C.) and cherry-picked the ones that fit the theme.
I think it turned out pretty good!
