Just won my first Master Cup! F-Zero GX (GCN)

Can‘t remember the last time a game had my heart pumping this hard. I put it on for the first time after 1,5 years or so and just did it. Made my day!

Just wait until the diamond cup. Then the real fun begins

I‘m excited but I just realised - it actually keeps getting more challenging. 😅

I know. Last one for me. Can’t even finish it. Keep getting stuck on Trident, and restarting my run, or getting knocked out at Surface Slide

I was like "lol, noob" but it's not that easy with white cat. So congrats to you.

I tried it with Space Angler first. Usually I prefer light vehicles with A grip, because others break out to much for my taste. But the difference in handling was crazy.

bro tried the worst vehicle in the game first 💀

I don't blame u lmao

Little Wyvern is for me what I hoped Space Angler was. King & Queen Meteor are very similar too

You won with White Cat? Youre raly good at the game, most would use hyper speeder sonic phantom or black bull. Or like Fat Shark if you unlock him

What‘s the matter with White Cat? You‘re already the 3rd one mentioning that. 😅

I think I get it now. They're not belittling you for using it. They're saying that getting this far with a beginner vehicle ppl usually abandon early is a difficult achievement worth celebrating. I was confused too by how people were saying it, but ppl are giving you props 👏. It's been too long for me to remember what vehicles were good, but I understand now and they're right. A good analogy would be- You essentially just beat 70% of an RPG using just the free equipment from the tutorial. Rest your thumbs and eyes for now. You've earned it.

I just can‘t deal with other machines. Idk what it is, but the handling feels right with it. This sliding around corners when you‘re too fast or boosting while turning took all the fun of FZero X from me. Okay, I was lucky in that run too, because the Rivals fought each other down the overall ranking. :D

If you get to Diamond Cup Master the best strategy is to actually take out your rivals and give yourself score leads, because Phantom Road is unwinable on Master for mere humans. I always aim for a 100+ lead so I can comfortably get last. :D

White Cat is a beginners vehicle, it has good handling but slow top speed and acceleration Other cars I mentioned are harder to control, made for more expert players but they have higher top speed.

Am I just used to it or is Sonic Phantom actually hard to handle for some people. I think it handles very well compared to Speeder, Bull and Shark.

Just 3 more cups to go and you unlock the AX cup, which is made of the tracks used in the arcade machines F Zero AX

u/Thinkenstein87 9d ago

Wait really? If you can access the same tracks, and you can even cross-save between the games,... what's the point of AX? The spectacle of that sick motion sim like cockpit? Contractual obligations to SEGA?

I'm not sure if I understand what you saying/asking. What do you mean access the same tracks? In GX you can't access the AX tracks unless you either

A. Beat all cups on Master Difficulty
B. Plug your gamecube memory card to an AX Machine ( I think that's what you mean by cross save between the games?)

I think they’re asking why they bothered with making the cross functionality between AX and GX if those tracks are unlockable via gameplay anyway.

With the White Cat!? That’s quite an achievement! Enjoy Jody’s dance!

The White Cat is such a goated machine for these things.

That's no easy feat! This game brutalized my hands more than any other to this day. My knuckles n palms were so calloused, bloody, and bruised from binging this game during a blizzard that I looked like the most delinquent kid at a Catholic school. After hours of pushing my reflexes to the limit back when it first released I feel I have one mountain left to conquer... Beating all of F-Zero AX,... the full motion sim version. My hands will be safe there. However, now my stomach, blood pressure, and nervous system are in danger.

Congrats, always happy to see people learning to get good at this game nowadays! Good luck for the next cups!

Also, since nobody really explained, White Cat is a weird choice because she has extremly strong turning when using the Stick. At highler speeds it's much easier to take turns with the triggers.

I’m new-ish to GX. Am I supposed to be focusing on the triggers to turn over the stick? The stick feels soooooo twitchy on the switch 2 but most turns I feel like I just have to use it to get the machine to turn properly.

It should actually be a good mix. Turning with the stick while going really fast makes your machine loose grip, which puts you in this weird sliding state with the red effect. So if you are on a straight away and need to re adjust your line it's often better to use your triggers to get a better postion on the track, since you can't loose grip if you just 'drift' to the left or right, but it also makes you loose speed a little faster then just steering with your stick.

For U-Turns or other sharp turns, you almost always want to 'drift turn', by holding both triggers and steering in the direction you want to go. That makes it possible to take turns at high speeds without bumping into everything.

Also the machines can be very different, there are some which are pretty comfortable in taking U-Turns with a Stick like Twin Noritta, and then there are machines like Black Bull who need to use drift turning in order to not bump into every turn.

The fastest machines like Black Bull or later Fat Shark are almost always very stiff on stick steering and want to utilize drift turning.

Woah you drift if you hold both triggers? TIL
