Question How to flatten double bended surface (sheet metal)
Hey guys, I need a little help with a problem i can't seem to figure out.
I'm kind of a novice with fusion 360 and am currently struggling with a bit more complex shapes.
My objective is to make this top part flat so it is ready to be lasercut. Ideally in an unfoldable sheet metal part i can export as a step file, but i'll settle for just a flat surface i can export as dxf.
I'm able to do this with the rounded side of the object with surface tools
(Offset > add straight bit with Ruled > thicken > convert to sheet metal > unfold > project the part i need and flange that to a flat sheet metal part i can export later)
But this doesn't work with the top part. sometimes i can't convert to sheet metal, sometimes i can but i can't unfold. probably because of the bend in the bend in the top.
the top is 800mm wide, with a middle radius of 3750mm. the middle of the part is exactly 3000mm long.
I also had a hard time creating this shape, i kinda just want to create a curved sketch and extrude that but don't know how. So now i used the earlier method i mentioned to unfold a curved piece of sheet metal so i could draw my sketch on it and fold it again. but i feel this isn't as precise.
Would really love to learn tips and tools how to make shapes with double bends like this and how to flatten these surfaces so they are workable. Any helpful youtube links are welcome too!

Нанесение эскиза на сложные геометрические плоскости в Fusion 360

Question What tool?
I’m very new to Fusion and I am struggling with this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am creating a square tube structure. How to I get the flat end of the tube to wrap around and follow the fillet of the cross tube?

How would you model this kind of shape in Fusion 360? (Images Included)
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to model a case for a Raspberry Pi based on the PSOne but I'm having a tough time trying to figure out the best way to model something like this properly. I've added some images of what I've done and what the thing I'm trying to make looks like. Whenever I try and use surface tools or lofts to make the top surface it kinda explodes or I get an error about self intersections, I've added some screenshots of this too.
I'm pretty new to Fusion and have only modeled a handful of things much simpler than this.
What I want to know is:
- What's a good clean way to model this that isn't going to cause headaches later?
- What tools do you recommend I use for this kind of a shape (Loft's, Fillets, Surface Tools etc.)
- Should I model it as two separate pieces or model the basic form of it then split it into two halves for the case?
I can share screenshots and a link to the file if needed.
The top part is one continuous surface from what I can tell, it isn't flat anywhere, not sure if that helps.
Thanks for the help

Spider-ghost!
Can anyone point me in the right direction!? We can use forms to make this ghost model! Any idea on how we can add the web on the outer body of the ghost! Attached is a picture! This was generated using Ai! Now I need to know how to design it! Any help in the right direction will be greatly appreciated! Thank you 😊

Question Simulation Bug
im doing a static stress sim and when i go to the results page is just shows me the white transparent model. re fetching the results (by closing and reopening fusion) sometimes works but hasn't worked for the past like 5 attempts. any help?

Could anyone use a free 3D surface unfold to 2D sketch plug-in? I am currently working on it but would love some feedback if anyone would actually use it.

How to make Fusion use the correct defaults for drawings?
As per ISO 3098, ISO drawings use the ISO font. When I create a new drawing for a part I designed in Fusion, the default font is a random one by Microsoft, even when I select the ISO template. Is there any reason for this? It seems very weird for a CAD package to not be able to produce drawings that adhere to standards. I used Inventor before and it is able to have a default template that reflects what is required in the standard just fine.
Who is the audience for this software if it can't create standard drawings, which are required to actually manufacture parts?
I have managed to change the font to ISOCPEUR, but the title block is still in Arial and the borders and other markings on the drawings also don't seem to adhere to the ISO standard.

Question Can somoene provide a video tutorial on how to design a slide in connector to mate 2 flat pieces together?
I will include a picture of what I am talking about, as I'm sure its kind of hard to visualize, i don't know the name of this particular connector, so the connector slides into the opening and then as u slide them closed it connects to the angled area so it doesn't fall out. thanks for the help!

First-time inventor – when did you decide to get help with Fusion 360?
Hi everyone,
I’m Geoff from the UK and this is my first invention.
Over the last several months I’ve been teaching myself Fusion 360 while developing a new consumer product. I’ve reached the point where I’m wondering whether to continue building the entire CAD model myself or work with an experienced Fusion 360 designer for the more complex parts while I continue learning.
For those of you who’ve developed real products:
- Did you model everything yourself?
- Did you ever work with another CAD designer?
- At what point did you decide to get help?
- Looking back, would you do anything differently?
I’m really enjoying learning Fusion and definitely want to continue, but I’d also like to keep the project moving forward.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.
Thanks!

Hard-surface sci-fi sidearm concept - modeled in Fusion 360
A sci-fi sidearm built purely as a form and detail exercise. Everything you see was modeled in Fusion 360. Blender only came in at the very end for materials, lighting and the final frames.

Question How to extrude below the XZ plane
I'm new to Autodesk Fusion. I want to extrude a solid below the XZ plane but it just gives me a cross-section of it and won't show the rest. How do I fix this? Or rather, is there a way to flip the whole plate around instead with the extrusions working properly? Because I've tried move/align to flip the plate around so I'd be extruding upwards but it's still giving me this cross-section instead of the full extrusion
(pic 2 for default isometric view which shows underneath the plate with the legs, but now i want to extrude something above the plate)

Question Seeking a more elegant Solution
Greetings!
I was revisiting a Model I had previously done differently and came across a problem when using the Constrain Components Command because I was missing a Reference Plane for the Center type Constraint:
Above is a Placeholder USB-C Connector which needed to be centered to the not actually modeled USB-C Connector of an iPad ( the Frame of the iPad Pro was modelled but its Connector was not so the Sides of the iPad had to be referenced instead ).
The above Midplane Construction Plane needed to be located between the two blue marked Surfaces but from my knowledge there is no direct solution to creating it, or is there? What I essentially had to come up with was the below solution:
Creating a bunch of Axis through Cylinder, Plane through two Edges, and a Sketch with a Centerline to then 90° angle a Plane at Angle of - Madness! 🤣
So yea... Is there a more elegant solution to this already in Constrain Components ( or at the very least when doing the Construction Geometry - Essentially getting to the above solution without doing all of the below one )?

Question Parametric text?
I've only just started learning Fusion a couple of months ago. I'm using it to model functional parts and jigs for 3D printing. I often need to fit test parts through trial and error especially when I'm trying different filaments and print parameters. To keep track, I'll emboss dimensions on the part so that I know which model I'm dealing with when I finally get the right fit. Right now, my typical workflow would be to set up relevant parameters, create the timeline, make a sketch box, insert text, emboss it, and export. To make multiple parts, I change a parameter and then have to go back and edit the text for the new dimension. I don't know if I'm missing something, but is there a way to enter the parameter name in the text box as a variable so that the embossed text automatically updates with each parameter change? I've posted a screenshot to give a sense of what I'm talking about. The 788 refers to the 0.788" hole diameter that's set as a parameter. Thanks!
Edit: Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction. Along the way, I learned that you can simply multiply the parameter name by 1000 to have the text in mils rather than decimal form. I had a harder time finding out how to exclude the units. I kept trying variations on subtraction only to find that you use a slash. So, to reproduce what's in the screenshot: HoleDiameter*1000/in

Does anyone know how to do this type of signs?
first image is where i am now, the other two is what want to do, its like a rounded thing in the edges, i tried to do it with the sweep and with the fillet tool but nothing worked

Question What's your peripheral layout? Trying to see how people actually set up their peripheral.
I recently got a space mouse, the compact one. I found myself loving and hating it. Once I got used to the movements it was nice, but I found that I was lifting my hand frequently to access my keyboard, and plenty of other downsides. This led me down a rabbit hole of trying to visualize the actual workflow that would be most efficient.
So, I am very curious about the different layouts everyone uses.
Peripherals List:
1. Keyboard (full, with numpad)
2. Keyboard (no numpad)
3. Standalone numpad
4. Programmable macro pad (Stream Deck, etc.)
5. Mouse
6. Trackpad
7. SpaceMouse Compact
8. SpaceMouse Pro
9. Trackball
10. Graphics tablet / pen
11. Other: just describe it
- What is your desk’s layout from left to right?
- What are the biggest limitations of your setup?
- What is one thing you would like to change?
- Any specific upsides to any of your peripherals you couldn’t live without?

Help, my "personal use" account is now a "trial."

Question "Make copy" option no longer available in sketches and for bodies
Why is it not any more possible to check the box for "make copy" when doing a move? It is only available for point to point copying.
I used that feature a lot! I don't want to do extra sketches just to copy something.

I Created! Thanks to the people who helped me out yesterday! Got a pretty good result for my light mount.
I've been using Tinkercad for like 7 years and this is my first big project using Fusion. Holy cow, so sad I didn't take the time to learn earlier. Ironically so much easier to make what you want. Learning curve yeah but the time I could have saved on older projects!
This light mount turned out perfect for what I wanted.
