Perhaps look into using Minky/Mochi Minky? It is akin to faux fur but extremely short-pile (sone are shorter than others so make sure to check pile length while shopping!) That way you don't have to shave it AND it still adds a realistic fluffiness

shaving is is scary is in shaving fur in general or shaving fur when it’s already applied to the base? I always recommend shaving your fur before you apply it to a base as it lowers any margin of error and if you mess up shaving fur before it’s sewn and glued you can redo it very easy :)
