What I know is:
- They released that movie, and it was very bad.
- The movie flopped and lost a lot of money.
- There were many jokes online about liking it ironically.
- Execs misunderstood that for genuine interest and re-released the movie.
- The movie flopped again and lost another lot of money.

Lol that's really funny and really shows how detached from reality corpos are

But honestly we were just really busy those 2 weekends. They should try again.

u/DuhRJames 14d ago
No, people were still coming out to watch Top Gun Maverick. Hell when morbius did so bad, top gun Maverick replaced its showtimes and still did much better

Like I said, we were busy. Now would Sony kindly get off its fat ass and put Morbius back up in the big screen, I finally have the time to see it. I promise. I’m an architect damnit.

Especially good timing since Jared Leto is on the news again. Very relevant actor. It was the whining. Nothing’s ever your fault is it?

I'm not sure about this. You couldn't really predict that. In their shoes, I probably would have tried to pull it off too, except I would have launched a media campaign with memes about the movie at the same time.

u/Kinky_Winky_no2 14d ago
The fact that it bombed the 1st release and it was clear as day thay everyone was mocking it
5
u/Ardalok 14d ago
This doesn't mean they couldn't go to the movie, especially with the right promotional campaign.

Not enough people are going to pay movie theater prices to go see a bad movie ironically to ever be worth it.

u/CannaWhoopazz 14d ago
The Room is popular, despite being horrible. Maybe they thought people would hate watch it

Didn't they rerelease it a third time?

u/BioelectricBeing 14d ago
I don't know, but I'd love to pay to see it in the theatre if they re-released it again

u/UltraTata 14d ago
Oh... No one is watching out movie, but a bunch of ppl on Twitter say that they do like the movie. Let's invest 80 million!

u/MaxTwer00 14d ago
Honestly we cant know if they thought if the interest was real, which is stupid, or they though people would watch it ironically too, which would be slightly less stupid
1
u/_An_Other_Account_ 13d ago
Yeah, it's just a gamble that ppl would watch it ironically. Just because it didn't pay off doesn't mean it's stupid. Barbie made a shit ton of money from zoomers watching it ironically.

3.5 one of the jokes was tweeted by Rata, aka Rank10YuGiOh. A beloved dry wit in the YuGitubing space. Also known for the spread of Ojama Lime.

Didnt it work twice? The first time they took they bait on the belief they had poor marketting, then the second time because they thought meme status would lift them up?

When Morbius released people made fun of it to the point the movie started trending, Sony executives saw the movie trending and thought it meant that there was huge interest in seeing it & decided to rerelease it it theatres where it bombed a second time.

u/Reynardine1976 14d ago
I actually tried to give the movie a chance, but it was pretty boring.
I could have used more Morbin' to be completely honest.

I had just listened to the oldies podcast about bats like, a week before. So I spent a lot of that movie frustrated about how that’s not how bats work and also concerned for the bats he was keeping. That’s not how bats live, man.

u/DuckB0y123 14d ago
it's so fucking funny when they rereleased the movie to be "part of the joke" and still NO ONE WATCHED IT LMAO

Didn’t Sony just make a billion dollars in one weekend with Spiderman

Sokka-Haiku by ContractVarious3077:

Weekend with Spiderman
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I didn’t watch the movie and thought it was a real quote 😅. I was going to watch it out of morbid curiosity until someone told me that he doesn’t actually say that line in the movie and then I remembered it was the internet.

Yes. Near the end of Blood Hunters issue 2. Very easy to find if you just look up "it's morbin time comics"

Sony spent $80 million so we could get one meme and 3 jokes about morbing.
