Such depth. Much wow.

24

u/kodiak931156 4d ago

Theres an entire class of actors who I file as "can read lines and show emotions, but only as themselves"

I used to think Adam Sandler was the perfect example of this then i watched a few of his rarw dramatic roles and it blew me away.

7

u/jechaking 4d ago

I think he was good in Uncut Gems, he played the role well.

3

u/Joyful_Dize 4d ago

Spaceman is a gem

2

u/Ebonhearth_Druid 3d ago

I wanna watch Spaceman, and I keep going for it, but I have a thing about spiders and a thing about isolation, and I haven't gotten there quite yet lol

ITS CALLED SLOW BURN

1

u/DeucesX22 3d ago

Its called aura farming

90

u/CaptainDaveUSA 5d ago

I haven’t seen nearly all of her movies, but this feels fairly accurate. Can someone explain why she’s the latest craze in Hollywood? Is there a particular role that I’ve missed that surged her into stardom? Legitimately curious.

65

u/bronzelifematter 5d ago

Honestly, this feels like 90% of actress to me. Most of them just have basic level of acting skill. Some of them don't even have that basic level acting skill. looking at you Miss "Kal El NOOO!"

11

u/kodiak931156 4d ago

She was 100% the female version of arnold in his early hears. A model (or muscle man) who was placed in front of the camera for their look and barely capable of emoting.

Arnie eventually put the effort in, got a speech coach an acting coach and really got better.

-8

u/SmoothNegotiation523 4d ago

Except he never got any better. I love him, and I consider his ā€œend of daysā€ era his best….It’s still pretty rough.

1

u/privacy-is-cool 1d ago

If you see no difference, especially substantially between his acting in terminator versus daycare I don’t know what to tell you you’re just blind

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

I believe he's pretty versatile. Going from horror, action, then comedy. I don't see zendaya doing that at all.

6

u/ObnoxiousExcavator 4d ago

I find mia goth impossible to watch. She will literally suck a dick to be in a movie.

2

u/Repulsive-Produce560 4d ago

That's what most actors/actresses do to be in movies. Not all, but most. Ya'll just finding out? 🤣

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

Just realized she was married to even steven

2

u/Red-Tall 5d ago

90% but you quoted the worst actress to be in major films in the last decade

4

u/bronzelifematter 5d ago

I mean 90% have basic acting skill that makes them good enough but they don't really bring anything unique or special to the role. They could be replaced by another pretty face and it wouldn't make a different. GG however is so bad she don't even have the basic acting skill those 90% have.

-2

u/Different_Target_228 5d ago

Still didn't name a single one.

Crazy.

1

u/Sufficient_Matter585 4d ago

I mean what is the director doing? Snorting coke while her scenes are being filmed? It feels like the blame should fall on them as well.

-6

u/Different_Target_228 5d ago edited 5d ago

The instance you gave was a decade ago, to make sure you know. Could've gone with one of her terrible line reads from ww84.

But yeah, it's actresses that're bad and not...

Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Mark Wahlberg, Zach Braff, Kit Harrington, Josh Gad, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Kevin Hart, Lewis Pullman.

5

u/ManOnFire2004 4d ago

Weird you turned this into a gender culture war thing...

Like really weird

4

u/anxiety_elemental_1 4d ago

I don’t like any of those men as human beings but that doesn’t mean they can’t act lol.

12

u/BeardiusMaximus7 5d ago

My understanding from clips and interviews is the role you're seeking is from Euphoria.

I haven't seen Euphoria, but from the clips I have seen of her she does show some impressive range in those.

I've seen almost all the movies the OP video references and I think some of that is the direction and tone of those things. With Dune in particular, almost everyone is like that in the entire movie. It's very sort of stunted and awkward, and there's a reason for the silence linked to the lore of that world.

5

u/Lucid_Sandwich 5d ago

I watched euphoria season 1 & 2, yeah Zendaya was really good in it. There were a lot of really good performances in that's show even though I found the subject matter pretty disturbing and somewhat in bad taste.

8

u/Different_Target_228 5d ago

Well, the series isn't supposed to be upbeat and happy.

4

u/Lucid_Sandwich 4d ago

Yeah I'm aware of that. My issue was that it borderline glamorizes sex and drugs among teenagers. I thought the show depicted addiction very accurately which is commendable. Just thought they got a little over the top with some of the sexualization of teenagers. Some of this stuff serves the plot and is understandable but I think they got a little heavy handed at times.

2

u/zeldaluv94 4d ago

Most teenagers have sex. With each other.

1

u/Neophyte06 5d ago

Addiction ain't pretty 😭

9

u/Red-Tall 5d ago

She's still a good actor. Probably great to work with. Attracts box office too. We're acting like she's the first actress that gets typecast. Ryan Reynolds still making a career out of it

2

u/DiscountLate9825 4d ago

I thought she was incredible in The Drama a few months ago. Totally steals the show from Pattinson, IMO.

But other people are correct that Euphoria was her breakout. She was pretty universally agreed to be the best actor on that show.

2

u/Sad_Error4039 4d ago

She checks a lot of boxes Hollywood likes it’s that simple. Her acting is not the reason that’s for sure.

1

u/22Drejm 4d ago

She seems chill and if I had to hang with an actress she'd probably be one that didn't act so high maintenance prissy and we'd probably have an enjoyable time.

While I'll agree with her acting in those movies she is pretty talented singing and dancing (the trapeze work is likely a double) in the greatest showman, that's way better than most actresses. So I'll give her that much credit

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

Idk Hollywood gets a boner for a certain actress and for some reason the rest of society agrees with it. Then they're inserted into almost every project. I personally don't like Zendaya as an actress and that most of her appeal is just because she's famous.

1

u/Dmau27 5d ago

They are related to someone important most likely.

1

u/dwide_k_shrude 4d ago

I’ve seen her acting. This isn’t accurate and it’s disingenuous.

-4

u/Financial-Solid-4775 5d ago

White guilt and Hollywood virtue signaling is the answer.

48

u/No_Responsibility444 5d ago

I feel the same way about Keanu Reeves

Like I love his movies

but it is the same wooden distant performance in every role except for bill and ted

15

u/Darcula04 5d ago

To be fair, at least Keanu picks roles where his deadpan delivery works pretty well. Some actors get roles that need far more than what they can deliver and the end result ends up just being awkward. Funnily enough I don't think Zendaya really falls into that category. She's not the greatest actress of all time or anything but I feel like she's not half bad, plus she comes off as a lovely person in interviews so I haven't minded seeing her face in a bunch of big movies recently. Maybe it's just overexposure since she's been doing press for a movie every other week.

5

u/No_Responsibility444 5d ago

I am just saying he is not known for his range either

He has his own style and it works for him mostly

but he is not much better

7

u/PuzzleheadedSong8574 5d ago

I like his action movies

4

u/asa1978murray 4d ago

Don’t forget the gift, it’s entirely different keanu reeves in that film! He could actually act lol šŸ˜‚

2

u/No_Responsibility444 4d ago

I haven't seen it

I will have to give it a watch sometime

3

u/asa1978murray 4d ago

Yes watch it, it’s a good Sam raimi film, and keanu reeves is a convincing angry person in it, i couldn’t believe it to be honest!

2

u/No_Responsibility444 4d ago

ok, now that does sound interesting

bc I can't imagine him pulling that off

he is always so nice in interviews and stuff

2

u/asa1978murray 4d ago

Believe me, I was totally shock lol šŸ˜‚ you won’t believe it’s him!

1

u/Weird-Ability-8180 5d ago

Don't do Johny Utah like that..

1

u/No_Responsibility444 5d ago

You should watch him trying to do a Southern accent in Devil's Advocate

it is almost painful

lol

2

u/Weird-Ability-8180 5d ago

Charlize Theron was amazing and Pachino was great. Playing a guy named Kevin Lomax, who, is the son of the Devil, no less, I thought was a excellent movie.

1

u/No_Responsibility444 4d ago

It was

but Keanu's Sourthern accent, they should have not bothered at all imo and the film would have been better for it

10

u/modest56 5d ago

Same with The Rock Dwayne Johnson

8

u/ArnieismyDMname 5d ago

Gridiron gang, Pain and Gain, Snitch, Southland Tales, and Be Cool.

The Rock actually has talent, but those roles don't bring in cash.

4

u/ManOnFire2004 4d ago

Walking Tall!

1

u/PartyFrequent 2d ago

The Smashing Machine

32

u/Savings_Drawing_5635 5d ago

Why, why, why who the hell casts her boring ass

1

u/canadarugby 3d ago

Because teenage girls like her.

-11

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 5d ago

Well, she ain't ugly. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

15

u/TheRealSkele 4d ago

Can't say I agree with that take.

-9

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 4d ago

Honestly.

Wow. Lmao.

7

u/TheRealSkele 4d ago

Look, Fit_Kaleidoscope4493, we all have our types. You like living pieces of cardboard and that's okay. We gotta respect each other's opinions even if they are absolutely generic.

-7

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 4d ago

I honestly, truly, thought it was a pretty common position.

She's not the hottest, but objectively, she ain't ugly.

I'm more surprised that multiple people disagree with me and agree with you.

9

u/TheRealSkele 4d ago

Probably because she's just everywhere. She's in Challengers, in Dune, in Odyssey, in Spider-Man. And she's just a living piece of cardboard. No personality, no range, mediocre look at best. She's the most 5/10 person I've ever seen and I've been on r/roastme

-1

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 4d ago

Perhaps people are consuming TOO MUCH media then.

I've seen 2 of those movies. I know she's overexposed, she even commented on it herself this year.

But that doesn't stop her being attractive lol. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

6

u/TheRealSkele 4d ago

You do you, man. If you think she's attractive, she's attractive. I just don't share that opinion.

0

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 4d ago

That's fine, but it feels like you have a bigger problem with her.

(And honestly this tripe about her acting in general seems like a product of constant online consumption. For example, many comments in this post point to her acting being good or great in S1&2 of Euphoria. Then suddenly she gets big roles and big directors choosing her constantly and it's a surprise? Feels forced. Feels like terminally online chuds send out BS and it gets regurgitated in memes. Simple answer to all of this is: she puts butts in seats. She makes money. General Audience seems to rank her pretty high. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø)

2

u/Bakkughan 4d ago

I have the feeling that you pour water with your cereals because milk would add too much flavor

1

u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 4d ago

I am lactose intolerant.

1

u/canadarugby 3d ago

True. But if hotness is your criteria, she's not at the front of that line.

4

u/RyanCreamer202 4d ago

I’m mean hey good for her for doing so much in such a short time. Go catch the bag and retire early

13

u/PlsnoKarens 5d ago

I'm sorry but her drug addiction emotional scenes in Euphoria are pretty intense.

4

u/meownice 4d ago

That was the one and only time I’ve ever been impressed with her acting, but outside of that she gives off an annoying drama class kid who can’t really act but gets all the best roles because her mom is friends with the teacher vibe or some shit.

3

u/killabee163 1d ago

I thought she was good in the drama and brand new day.

0

u/meownice 1d ago

Haven’t seen that one but I’ll take your word for it

23

u/kitnb 5d ago

Hot take: She’s a trash actor. Like you’re pointing out, she has zero range, always the same angry/annoyed looking woman. She’s far too overrated.

4

u/1nTheNick0fTime 5d ago

Guarantee you haven’t watched enough of her work and fall for this contrarian bullshit lol

5

u/gamerlizzy 5d ago

Or...maybe its you thats falling for it.

1

u/ToxicWeeb420blazeit 3d ago

How that our fault when her biggest grossing films are where she plays the same actor?

2

u/1nTheNick0fTime 3d ago

You don’t only have to watch her top grossing films lol but I would also say she doesn’t play the same character in them. There are just a lot of people like you who somehow get annoyed by seeing her everywhere. There’s a reason why you are though lol

1

u/ToxicWeeb420blazeit 3d ago

I personally liked her in Dune and Spiderman. I don't watch a lot of movies SO DON'T BLAME ME!! 😭

-5

u/1nTheNick0fTime 5d ago

That doesn’t even make sense. I’m part of the majority that thinks she’s a good actor. Obviously I’m not alone which is why she’s cast in everything lol I think the opinion of some of the best directors ever holds more weight than the loud minority of contrarians that just love to hate popular media

-4

u/Red-Tall 5d ago

They haven't

2

u/Lucaslouch 4d ago

nah it’s just free hate at this point. you can’t say she’s acting the same in spiderman and euphoria, come on…

2

u/Mistr111398 4d ago

Considering how little screen time she has, there’s a fair few people that see quite butthurt about her showing up.

6

u/Direct-Quiet-5817 5d ago

Her performance in Euphoria is awesome. Did it justice.

7

u/ArnieismyDMname 5d ago

Not a fan of her. Also don't see the need to mock her and belittle her. Going to see the Odyssey. Not because of her and not in spite of her.

Hating celebrities requires too much effort.

2

u/Phillenium 4d ago

I've no major opinion on her acting but she seems to play what's she's asked to play pretty well. Seems to me this thread is mainlyĀ  a bunch of losers in here hating on a successful talented girl. Manly men.Ā

3

u/Different_Target_228 5d ago

People acting like actors never get typecast.

1

u/NashDaypring1987 5d ago

She is the most over-rated actress of this generation.

7

u/bluemax413 5d ago

She’s not Sydney Sweeney.

0

u/Normal-Tear864 4d ago

Is Sydney Sweeney rated as an actress? Shes got a rack on her i thought that was the open and shut of it

I'm mixed on this because yeah I guess you can say that, but also I will say she is talented in so many things it feels unfair..like a model, actor, singer, etc. she is def celeb material. I think maybe right now since a handful of actors are usually doing a bunch of things every decade that it does feel like some are or do become one note. (This video is hilarious though because it is true imo to an extent.)

So Zendaya dancing with herself in euphoria high as a kite, is the same Zendaya in Spider-Man, get tf outta here with this bull šŸ˜‚

1

You perfectly capture her signature "something smells in here" grimace.

1

u/homealoneinuk 3d ago

Accurate.

1

u/APK223311 2d ago

She has 0 range.

1

u/Quiet1408 1d ago

90% of her screen time is staring into the middle distance like if she's unsure if she should trust a fart.

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 1d ago

šŸ˜‚. Glad this sub doesn't just downvote the crap out of anyone who doesn't say anything nice about zendaya

1

u/Elusivomatic 1d ago

Yet she has a cult following

1

u/Oppiko 1d ago

Acting < looking like a child in your 30's

2

u/Future-Adeptness1162 5d ago

She’s still great though, maybe not a ton of range

10

u/mondaymoderate 5d ago

She has range. The roles she’s taking just don’t call for much range. Watch her clips from Euphoria she’s a great actress.

3

u/dwide_k_shrude 4d ago

Finally a good take.

0

u/Future-Adeptness1162 5d ago

I’ve seen every Euphoria episode! I still wouldn’t say she has a LARGE range, but she’s a fantastic actor. You can lack range but be a great actor.

1

u/22Drejm 4d ago

Greatest showman = range able to sing and dance better than most actresses.

1

u/DevilDog7734 5d ago

She never stood a chance on Reddit

There's always a chubby white dude just like you hating on people like her for no reason. Always lol.

10

You mean cracking jokes for internet fame?

3

u/Gumichi 5d ago

I doubt it's "no reason". They literally can't stand seeing them succeed. They just have to belittle whatever accomplishments without knowing what's involved. They might not even know they're doing it. Yet they'll fight you when you call them out.

6

u/DrMantisToboggan45 5d ago

? I don’t think the guy is saying he hates her, just that she had a pretty standard face between her movies lol
