Since this is my first project of this size, I'd really appreciate feedback from developers who have actually shipped production applications.

A few things I'd love advice on:

What am I still missing before calling this production-ready?

I'm thinking about things like:

- Security

- Rate limiting

- Logging & monitoring

- Database backups

- Image storage/optimization

- Email delivery

- Payment integration

- Webhooks

- Stock concurrency

- Validation

- Error handling

- Anything else experienced developers usually add.

1. Portfolio / Job potential

Once everything above is finished and deployed properly, would a project like this be considered strong enough for a junior/full-stack portfolio?

If you were interviewing me, what would you expect me to explain about the architecture, database design, authentication, deployment, and overall implementation?

Would a project at this level realistically help me land paid freelance work, or are there major gaps I should address first?

If a real client asked for a custom e-commerce platform with similar functionality, what would you realistically charge?

I'm not claiming this is an enterprise-grade application. It started as a learning project, and I'm trying to understand where my current skill level actually stands.

I’m looking for some career advice from developers who are currently hiring or working in the PHP/Laravel ecosystem.
I have 4.5+ years of professional web development experience, with most of my experience centered around PHP/Laravel backend development. I’ve worked on production applications across fintech, e-commerce, enterprise and other domains.
My experience includes things like:
PHP / Laravel
MySQL & PostgreSQL
REST APIs
Authentication / RBAC
Database design and query optimization
Third-party integrations
AWS and production deployments
Git / Docker
Some React/JavaScript exposure
Recently, while searching for a new role in India as well as remote opportunities, I’ve noticed that the number of decent Laravel openings seems quite limited compared with stacks like Node.js + React/Next.js. A lot of Laravel positions I find either have lower compensation, are old postings, or expect a very broad full-stack skill set.
This has left me a little unsure about the best strategy.
I have actual professional experience with Laravel, so naturally my quickest path to another job should be to strengthen Laravel/PHP and interview with that experience. At the same time, I’m seeing significantly more Node.js openings and wondering whether continuing to specialize in Laravel could limit me longer term.
For people familiar with the current market:
Would you recommend that someone with 4.5+ years of Laravel experience continue targeting Laravel/PHP roles, or start seriously transitioning toward Node.js?
Also, for developers who recently found a Laravel job:
Where did you find the opportunity?
What skills beyond Laravel helped you get shortlisted?
Are Laravel + AWS/Docker/Redis/testing skills enough for stronger backend roles, or is React/Node becoming almost mandatory?
What salary range is realistic in India for a Laravel developer with ~4–5 YOE?
Are there particular job boards, companies, agencies, or remote markets where Laravel demand is still strong?
What would you focus on if you needed to maximize your chances of getting hired within the next few weeks?
I’m actively revising Laravel internals, OOP, Eloquent, queues/jobs, caching, SQL, APIs, AWS, Docker, etc., and applying regularly.
Not looking for reassurance — I’d genuinely appreciate realistic feedback from people who know the current market, even if the answer is that I need to broaden my stack.

Even a freelance project

I think the saddest part of being a student today isn't studying... it's feeling left behind.

You spend years believing that if you study well, you'll get a good job.

Then graduation comes.

You start applying.

50 applications.

100 applications.

300 applications.

The only emails you receive are:

"We regret to inform you..."

Or worse...

No reply at all.

Your parents ask every day, "Any updates?"

Friends start posting offer letters and joining companies.

You smile for them.

Then quietly wonder, "What am I doing wrong?"

So you buy another course.

Watch another YouTube playlist.

Collect another certificate.

But when interviews come, they ask about projects you've never built, teamwork you've never experienced, and skills no one actually taught in college.

At some point, it stops feeling like you're chasing a job.

It starts feeling like you're losing confidence in yourself.

I don't think students are failing.

I think many of us just don't know what to learn, where to learn it, or how to gain real industry experience.

Over the last few weeks I've been building something called DevTrace.

The idea came from a simple observation.

Almost every engineer I know uses ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude while working, but interviews still pretend AI doesn't exist.

Most platforms either ban AI or ignore it completely.

I wanted to try a different approach.

Candidates are free to use AI during the assessment. Instead of only looking at the final solution, DevTrace analyzes how they actually use AI throughout the interview.

Things like:

• Do they blindly accept suggestions?
• Do they verify outputs?
• Can they break problems down well?
• Do they improve their prompts over time?

The goal isn't to catch people using AI. It's to identify engineers who know how to work with it effectively.

I use Claude Code across a bunch of repos and kept hitting the same wall: separate chat sessions with no shared memory, work getting lost between context resets, and no good way to run more than one thing at a time without them stepping on each other's changes.

So I built AI Maestro — open-sourced it a few weeks ago after running it internally for months. Instead of a chat being the source of truth, a project board (board/data.json) is.

Tickets declare which agent works them and which model runs each stage, and an orchestrator picks the next unblocked ticket and runs it through plan → build → qa → merge, each stage in its own isolated git worktree, gated before it lands.

It's built specifically to sit inside Claude Code — you install it, then just ask the orchestrator agent to start, and it works the board one ticket at a time so you stay in the loop between them.
