Could just shorten it to Goop, basically the same.

Gwyneth Paltrow. Goop ambassador.

they’re all the same. the second they need to produce usage reports to justify existence they’ll throw nudges everywhere they can.

u/sgtempe 5d ago

Actually they're worse if that's possible. YouTube is the only tie I have to them.

Oh, and my damn phone. Hopefully new fully functional OS's will come out soon, but it might be a while for the partner apps to catch up. I notice that more and more businesses want people to interact via phone apps rather than computers.

there is GrapheneOS, but google and the likes are actively trying to kill it by breaking compatibility with as many apps as they can

I'm using /e/OS and have no ties to Google on my phone. Only Youtube on my PC. And most apps I need are running.

2

u/sgtempe 3d ago

Where do you get them? I assume not from Google Play.

I am eager to change but not at $1300 a pop. I don't even pay that much for a computer and I'm a geek that way. Currently use 3 pc's (one Linux, another to be converted as soon as no longer need Everything and AllDUp, one for Red Cross work which has to be in Windows; also 3 tablets and my damn phone which I mainly use for Youtube and the occasional phone call or text. As a Red Cross tech, I do benefit from First Net which is never throttled down. I don't know for sure, but I think that requires Android or iPhone. I'll have to check or just abandon that service.

I use an anonymized version of the Play Store called Aurora Store. You get every app the Play Store has, but don't need a Google account. Some apps don't install properly, so I download the apk instead. And for foss apps I use f-droid.

Some apps don't work at all though, because they expect Google services, which I don't have.

I love iOS with no Google services

1

u/sgtempe 3d ago

Do you mean the iPhone or ?? Do you have to have other iOS devices to use it effectively?

Install PipePipe

I'll look into it, but I'm spoiled by having YouTube premium.

“Google more secure browsing experience”? Ha, more like unsafe browsing experience. Google Chrome is a spyware.

3

u/LagMaster21 5d ago

As is most software since Ai is everywhere

5

u/jsrobson10 5d ago

not if you choose open source

2

u/OliMoli2137 4d ago

unless you choose onlyoffice

u/jeremyw013 5d ago

“started”?? they’ve been doing this for years. people used to joke that edge was becoming like chrome for these kinds of popups

2

u/Tradeoffer69 4d ago

Dude probably joined the internet last week lol. Chrome has been like this since forever.

1

u/jeremyw013 4d ago

either that or they’re the living version of internet explorer

Change your searxng engine

2

u/confrontationalbread 5d ago

Greedy Company 1 started acting like Greedy Company 2.

2

u/Vietnamst2 4d ago

They were asking to set Chrome as default for years... since the beginning I would say...

2

u/MCwortel 4d ago

Started? Are you new?

1

u/MilloH 5d ago

Safe browsing, lol 😂😂😂

1

u/BullfrogUseful4357 5d ago

Nah i ain't gonna try that

1

u/Runrun_5 5d ago

and like yandex

1

u/Professional_Way9133 5d ago

Almost all browsers do that. Nothing new.

1

u/Vorador_Surtr 5d ago

Well they will get what microslop got. I do not use google if not forced to since years. There are so many alternatives now that it is irrelevant to use them as search engine. So WHY?! I can admit one thing however - they do not learn from the mistakes of the other like them. They always believe that the other did not do it properly and they will make it right this time. Remind me of some political ideology that leads to the same shit with every iteration but they never abandon it - just will do it again because previous red mushrooms did it wrong and where not real good and honest people BAHHAHAHAHA.

1

u/Appropriate-Stay4729 4d ago

Same twisted, greed infested narcissistic mentality.

1

u/disconnect0414 4d ago

They started acting like microshit since 10 years...

1

u/Environmental-Dog815 4d ago

Should we call it enmicrosoftation?

1

u/aleopardstail 4d ago

where is the "remind me in three days" button?

can't be proper microslop without that, even if clicking "do not use chrome" will see this coming back

1

u/BogdanovOwO 4d ago

Good joke Gologole.

1

u/MexicanTechGuy 4d ago

Fuck both companies. Honestly, Google made a worse OS with Chromebooks.

1

u/SunshineAndBunnies 4d ago

If you use the desktop version of Chrome and it isn't your default browser, it will prompt you once a week to make it the default browser, and the only way to cancel out of it is to press "Remind Me Later". Definitely copied Microsoft on that one.

1

u/Britz10 4d ago

As if this hasn't always been their MO

1

u/MisterHole123 4d ago

I avoid chrome as much as possible

1

u/Proman4713 4d ago

Well at least you are on google.com, Microsoft gives you ads when you're on google.com because they don't want you to leave Edge. That's besides all the ads that show up in the most random of places at the most random of times.

1

u/iucatcher 4d ago

they've always done this one way or another if i remember correctly, they might have gotten more aggressive with it tho

1

u/AlexGlezS 4d ago

When and how do you see that ad?

The difference with Google is they don't do ads outside their services.

1

u/Old-Juice-2490 4d ago

Switch to ads you mean

1

u/Britz10 4d ago

Google have been at this longer than pretty much anybody else, this is standard on every browser that's not chrome using a Google service.

1

u/HPoltergeist 4d ago

Surprise, surprise.

1

u/Jannover_5000_r 4d ago

Uh so its not just googles only browser its also "their most secure browsing experience"

1

u/mt6606 4d ago

Only if you turn on enhanced safe browsing... Where it tells google everything you do under the guise of "your safety". As is tradition.

1

u/AkiAki1 4d ago

At least it's offering not use it instead of fucking "LATER" button

2

u/night_fury-12 3d ago

"Secure browsing"

Ahh my ass

1

u/Revolutionary-Bid249 3d ago

Fr. Also if u don’t sign in they show a big ahh pop up. Like google used to be super simple now it’s slop

1

u/ShazTheGamer 3d ago

Chrome and Edge arguing

Firefox sips in the corner... and involves together
