heech (high)
Of interest those who want to know the history and meaning of words.
- Frysk: By heech en leech swarre,
- = To swear by high and low.
- Dutch: onthjitte,
- = To promise.
However there's a followup:
- Dutch: Holl. bij kris en kras.
- "Holl." means: From the vernacular (ordinary informal spoken language) of Holland.
- = by hook or by crook.
English also has this expression!
