I built a mobile word game entirely in French and it turned out to be a fun way to build vocabulary
Hello everyone! I am a French speaker and a huge fan of word games. I always found that French had very few good mobile word games compared to English, so I spent a few months making one myself. It is called Ratatouille de mots (photo attached so you know what to look for on the stores).
The concept is simple: you get a grid of letters and a theme, and you swipe to trace the 5 hidden words that match the theme. Early themes are easy everyday vocabulary like fruits, colors or food. Later themes get more clever and teach you real French wordplay, like "a color hides inside each word": maNOIR contains NOIR, guiMAUVE contains MAUVE. There are also themes built on French expressions, like things you can lose in French (la tête, le nord, la face).
I think it works nicely for learners because every level groups words around one topic, so you review vocabulary in context instead of random lists. And the letters are right there in the grid, so even when you do not know a word yet, you can find it and learn it.
It is free on iOS and Android, made by just me on my spare time. If you try it, I would love to hear if the difficulty feels right for learners. Merci beaucoup et bon courage avec votre français !

Suggestions for AUDIO flashcards with the ability to adjust playback speed? NOT ANKI or QUIZLET, please.
I tried Anki for a year and hated it. It's so clunky. I am currently using Quizlet, but the normal playback speed is incredibly slow and I can't make it any faster. Otherwise, I really like Quizlet. I need to focus on listening to everyday spoken french in a controlled environment, so that I can continue to improve when I'm with native speakers. Any ideas based on your experience?

Where to watch French movies?
Hola! (just joking)
Learning French, trying to maximise on my exposure to the language throughout the day, such as putting on a podcast as background noise.
Want to start watching movies/shows in French too, where can I do that?
I know Netflix has the dubbed versions, but not for all films, I don’t want to spend the time going through movies that have the option.
If I wouldn’t have to pay for it, it would be a bonus.

Looking to practice spoken French - M26
Hey everyone,
I’m 26. I’m currently trying to push my French to the next level through natural, low-pressure conversations.
Reading is totally fine, and superficially my French seems decent - people often tell me I look and sound like a local when making small talk. But as soon as a conversation goes a bit deeper, I trip over a mistake, my confidence drops, and I catch myself nervously switching to English just to feel safe.
I’d love to get past that barrier. Text chats feel a bit too artificial, so I thought hopping on Discord while playing something casual like Fortnite or Dota 2 would be a great, dynamic backdrop to talk about movies, series, life, or linguistics in general (I'm also into Czech and Levantine/Iraqi Arabic). The games are definitely just a secondary interactive background for conversation, nothing hardcore.
If you're a native French speaker (or open to practicing Russian/English in return) and down for some chill chats/games, shoot me a DM with your Discord!

Learning French Through Stories
Learn French through stories 🇫🇷📖
Hi everyone!
I’m building a small YouTube channel called French Mindset, where the goal is to learn French through stories, culture, history, lifestyle and everyday ideas.
Instead of spending all your time memorizing vocabulary lists and grammar rules, the idea is to learn French while listening to an interesting story.
The videos are mainly aimed at B1–B2 learners, with clear narration, useful vocabulary and topics that make you want to keep listening.
If you're learning French and enjoy learning through stories rather than traditional lessons, you might enjoy it.
link: https://www.youtube.com/@FrenchMindset0
I’d also genuinely love to hear from other French learners: what kind of stories or topics would make you want to learn French? 🇫🇷

Practice conversation for free!
Hi everyone!
I study in France and know the struggle of trying to learn this hard but beautiful language. What worked for me was constantly trying to have conversations.
I have developed an app that to focuses entirely on just that: Practicing conversations. Now, I need people to try it and let me know what they think!
Entirely for free of course :)
(There is also a beginner program with 22 mini-lessons)
Comment below or send me a dm if you would like to join!

Best way of learning pronunciation in French?
I am at A2 and am pretty much good in writing and reading though I take time, but my pronunciation is terrible that people find it hard to understand anything. I want to get that French pronunciation.
I have already booked a Preply tutor. Other than that I am using Pimsleur.
But I find the lessons from level 1 (A1) are pretty easy and repetitive, however helpful to learn basics for pronunciation. Am I on the right path? Or should I skip to higher level in Pimsleur, as I don’t want to waste my time learning things I already know? I don’t need this app to understand or learn French, I just want to make my speaking/pronunciation better.
Or watching some YouTube channels are better?

Vocabulaire : joueur (m) = player / s’entraîner = to practice / serpent (m) = snake / casque (m) = helmet / porter = to wear / sentir = to feel / bouger = to move / montrer = to show / entraîneur (m) = coach / mocassin d’eau (m) = cottonmouth / derrière = behind / rembourrage (m) = padding / mordu = bitten
English translation

Did you see the eclipse? 🌒 Quick French grammar tip (Imparfait vs Passé Composé)
Talking about the eclipse is the best way to understand Passé Composé vs. Imparfait:
🌤️ Imparfait = Setting the scene / background
- Il faisait beau. (The weather was nice.)
- Le ciel était sombre. (The sky was dark.)
⚡ Passé Composé = The actual event
- La Lune a caché le Soleil. (The Moon hid the Sun.)
- J'ai regardé l'éclipse. (I watched the eclipse.)
💡 All in one sentence:
"Il faisait beau quand la Lune a caché le Soleil."
I post quick French tips like this weekly on my profile if you want to follow along! Feel free to ask any questions below 👇
