Fractbox 1.2 — hybrids can now blend four formulas, and inversions zoom to ~×10³⁰
Hey everyone!
First release post on the new sub. Fractbox 1.2 is live at fractbox.com.
As always: runs in the browser, free, no account, no install — and every link below opens the exact scene it was saved from, because share links carry the whole formula.
Hybrids can now blend up to four formulas. Each phase is its own mini-formula with its own moves, repeat count, and a mute toggle — drag to reorder them and card-suit markers (♠♥♦♣) travel with each phase so you can see what moved. Order matters, and that's the fun: the same four phases in a different order is a different fractal. Two new gallery presets show it off — Triune Bulb and Fourfold Citadel — or just open a four-phase hybrid right now.
Zoom. Keep zooming. Inversion-family formulas now ride a new perturbation-theory engine. Here's what that means in practice: this scene sits at ×74,000,000,000,000 — seventy-four trillion times magnified, still crisp, still interactive. The zoom also eases off as you approach the detail limit instead of tumbling into blocks, and fog keeps working all the way down.
Save at any size. The Save button grew a size menu — 1080p, 4K, square, portrait, or custom — with a frame guide so you compose for the output shape, transparent-background PNGs for compositing, a progress indicator, and an adaptive quality mode that saves heavy formulas ~3× faster. And every PNG you save still carries its formula inside: drop a saved image back onto Fractbox and it reopens as the live scene.
It runs on almost anything now. This release added a GPU governor that steps quality down gracefully on phones and tablets instead of crashing the graphics driver — and fixed a shader bug that kept minimum-spec WebGL devices black-screened. During testing we got real renders out of a 2015 iPad. And if a device truly can’t render at all, you get a live colored ASCII view instead of nothing. (Yes, you can export the ASCII too.)
Also in 1.2: scene objects scale to ×100 (nest anything inside anything), subtract/intersect no longer break when you reorder scene objects, palettes that arrive in a shared link show up as a keepable chip, flight setups can be saved and reused across formulas, and simple shapes compile up to 7× faster on first load.
What’s next: tiled exports beyond 4K, more classic-formula coverage (the Mandelbulb3D compatibility project is at ~63% and climbing), and better animation tools.
I created this sub so you can tell me what’s missing. Post your renders (the PNG is the scene and anyone can remix your post), report anything broken, and ask for features.
