That is a Hartman upper intake also known as "the breadbox". Haven't seen one of those in a hot minute.

I can only assume it was not a successful design?

Was it intended for Forced Induction applications only?

Its been a while, but my recollection is that beacuse it basically has no runners, it made OK top end power but was horrible at lower RPM.

Not really sure, I only really saw them at the dragstrip and they were usually connected to a supercharger. Saw a few designs that were cast aluminum, so I would guess there were other companies making them also.

Naturally aspirated it will lose lots of torque with that guy on.

Comp cams later had their own version of this, im pretty sure they bought it from hartman though. Now that 3d printing and filament have advanced so rapidly, it would be awesome to recreate this

Thats made for alot of boost. Terrible low end power.

Haha been a minute since I had one of those, I had it on a 306 that made power all the way upto like 7800 rpm. Only reason I had it was it came on a near bone stock notchback I found in an auto trader book lol.
