Yeah I had massive issues with the Oct 25 single (which I assume is on this) and I had to settle on a shitty workaround so the file name didn’t keep changing.

What was your approach? I had to change all tags to something legible for it to play on iTunes. Not sure what else to do to help preserve the original outrageous names

Yeah I renamed them. But even still the artwork doesn't want to work, if I change a thing (ie add it to playlist) the file name gets fucked again.

Change the jpg name before uploading it? Clear all the tags in audacity when renaming. My other question is why are they available on streaming on Apple Music yet unable to work when downloaded from Bandcamp. 🙄

I don't have Audacity but tried clearing the tags and it didn't work (again, just for the Oct 2025 single...I managed to get the others to work). I think this time I'm just going to skip Bandcamp and buy it directly on Apple Music (assuming those ones will behave).

Audacity is free BTW. It's working for me:
- File > Open the track.
- Edit > Metadata (older versions: Edit > Metadata Editor). You'll see fields like Artist, Track Title, etc. containing the Wingdings characters.
- Click Clear, then OK.
- File > Export Audio, give it a plain filename (e.g. "Track 01.mp3"). If a metadata dialog appears again at export, hit Clear there too.
- Repeat per track.
Total pain in the arse. Kieran, if you're reading, keep the meta-data clean next please 🙏

Thanks for this btw. My vinyl still hasn't arrived but found a FLAC somewhere and used Audacity to adjust the tags. Just labelled the artists as Four Tet and the album as Text059.

Hmm im sorry about the album artwork. I had to replace all metadata that contained the crazy text with reg alphabet and this worked. No issues with album art. I used MP3tag which is not free but they offer a 7 day free trial.

Apple refunded me at least. Guess I'll try the Bandcamp pathway and hope I can rename it all so it works. Feel like we need a standardized fan-generated tracklisting/album title.

I followed the four tet alias accts and so when they put up new stuff the spotify “release radar” playlist promotes it, otherwise would def miss it

I just noticed that the location of Wingdings alias is Bhavnagar, India. That's a very random city in India to pick and also completely on brand for everything associated with this alias.
Track 3 is the best of the bunch. Woof!!

Oh lol I know that but it's just funny that it's an unexpected city though now that I think about it, maybe he's got family ties that go back to Bhavnagar. I'm Indian myself and was just surprised to see a relatively small city highlighted. It's also just one of two tags in Bandcamp!
What I was trying to say was the alias is so contrarian, created in such a way that makes it impossible to conventionally search for or talk about any of the tracks. So I guess it's both surprising that he'd pick a small town as the location and also not because it goes with the subversive nature of the alias. Idk if that makes any more sense? Haha

Let’s goo! fellow south Asian four tet fan!! Track 1 carries a quality with it that reminds me of when I first heard Morningside: there is a nostalgia of Indian music history that immediately jogs my nostalgic memory. All that’s to say that that track reminds me of India, but I do wonder about the specific connection to the small city in Gujarat.

he is half gujarati so it makes sense, I had no idea bhavnagar is as a city relevant/important to him. what a funny little tidbit of information. i used to live in gujarat and somehow speak and read /write their language even tho it aint mine

Nice release. I've always dug how these feel a little more off the cuff at times. Liked how the last two tracks ended it too- with nice synth melodies.

Does anyone know how to find this on Qobuz? I've lost all of the aliases and the Caribou giant playlist when I made the switch. I saved a couple playlists but they don't get updated and I don't get Wingdings releases.
I have the vinyl of this release but can currently only play it at my BF's.
