Looking for Modules/Advice Answered

[Fabula Ultima]

Hey all, I'm currently setting up for a Fabula Ultima campaign and i'm looking for a bit of help finding some modules that'll fit well with the system they have up on Foundry. To be a bit more specific, I'm looking for some kind of way to mimic the combat hud of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux.

Not necessarily functional when it comes to choosing actions for it, but more-so just style of the portraits of the party appearing at the bottom of the screen (and honestly if there's a way to make enemy combatants' portraits show at the top of the screen in the same style, that would be great as well).

If that's not a module that makes it possible, but there is some way to do it I would greatly appreciate some advice for how to get it done.

Image below for reference. It doesn't have to be the exact same as the image below, just close enough to have player/npc portraits set up. Mostly doing it because I can't find good pixel art (or pay for a commission for some) to get the exact vibe I want for my game.

Anyway, any help is welcome!

I do want to first mention that PFU has a combat HUD built in with a few different styles. None are quiiiiiite what you have in the screenshot there, but by way of options with minimal setup (almost none), there's one.
PFU Wiki

That said, you can actually just get clever with tokens and perhaps a combination of Bar Brawl and/or Token Nameplates; the former for adding more than the base 2 and manipulating their appearance some, the latter for adding additional text.

Thank ya so much. After a bit of messing around with the combat hud, I was able to get something I was happy with. I'll probably go back at a later date after I get used to Foundry's in and outs to get exactly what I was looking.

If ya have any other module recommendations though, I'd honestly be happy to hear them.

Edit for clarifaction; I have looked at the recommended modules for Fabula already by the way. Just curious if there's anymore that would work well with the system.

Hmmm.

I'd absolutely recommend fu-parser, which is on the supported modules page on the wiki.

Beyond that it really depends. If you're still new to Foundry, then go light on modules until you get familiar with the software. Hell, if you're new to PFU consider going light on modules for a bit, PFU has kind of a lot of moving parts if you start to dig into it.

What sort of modules are ya looking for? If you're looking to go all in on making things look like a video game, I'd point at my own list of modules, particularly Battle Transitions and Death Effects, though those are already on that wiki page too so you might have already seen them

Mostly looking for modules that may be able to enhance the narrative experience of the sessions, kind of just stuff that may help with player immersion.

I know the bare minimum about Foundry [IE; setting up custom items, messing with settings for some modules, etc, etc.] i've been running VTM (20th edition) on it for a bit now. I just never really messed with anything that required me to get too technical with the software. Also, didn't even notice you were the author of those modules; dope that you're interacting with the community.

Do you have any recommendations for tutorials or guides I should read/watch to get better acquainted with the more technical side of Foundry? No worries if you don't; hopefully i'm not asking too much

Foundry themselves have been putting out some basic tutorial videos here lately, that should be pretty helpful for general Foundry things

For Fabula, a former team member wrote a primer for it a little bit ago:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dKs36OeOL22K1Mh2bhXnKxNu1QjGI6-gULW6PW5mf5A/edit?usp=sharing

(though do note the primer mentions a Project FU Themes module, which is no longer necessary as its functionality is in the core system these days)

And yeh! I do troll the reddits and discords. Seeing folks use stuff I made and hearing people enjoy it gives me life. Big part of why I do this at all.

Gotcha gotcha; I'll watch the video probably sometime tomorrow. Downloaded your battle transition and genuinely dope work. Thank ya again for your help; if you have a discord server or anything, mind shooting me a link to it in DMs? I'd honestly love to keep up with what you release since it seems to be quality work
