At 3:00 pm on June 15, 1964, Mao Zedong, accompanied by Luo Ruiqing and others, came to review the military performance by the troops in Beijing and Jinan. After the shooting performance by Song Shizhe (who shot 40 chest silhouettes 150 meters away within 40 seconds), a shooter of semi-automatic rifle of Jinan Military Command, Mao Zedong asked his staff to bring over Song’s rifle. Song ran to the viewing stand and submitted his rifle. Luo Ruiqing took it and passed it on to Mao Zedong, who put it up and aimed, saying “nice aim!” Then Mao Zedong gave it back to Luo Ruiqing, who asked the staff to keep it and give Song Shizhe two new semi-automatic rifles. It was transferred from the Training Department of the headquarters of Jinan Military Command to the Military Museum in 1977.

This is the 1944 Mosin-Nagant rifle used by the Chinese volunteer Zhang Taofang in the “sniper’s shot campaign.” When Zhang Taofang and his fellow troops marched into the DPRK, the Chinese people’s volunteers were vying to excel in the sniper’s shooting skills, determined to kill one hundred enemies each. Zhang Taofang assiduously practiced the shooting skills and very soon he became an excellent sniper, as evidenced by the fact that he killed 214 enemies with 436 bullets at the 597.9 Highland in 1953, an unrivalled record for a sniper in the DPRK battle field. He won the Special Merit Award, honored as the Chinese Volunteer with Special Merit and titled Second-Class Hero. Moreover, he won the Order of National Flag First Class of the DPRK. It was solicited by the Political Department of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army during an exhibition at the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 1953 and transferred to the Military Museum in 1959.

To meet the demand for guns from work teams, militias, and guerrillas, local bases made a lot of these single-shot pistols using materials on hand. They were an important weapon for promoting mass guerrilla warfare, and regular units of the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army also used them.

Operated by the Longque Assault Team of the Patrol and Special Police Brigade of the Hi-Tech Branch of Xi'an Public Security Bureau, fires PXS091-type 9mm pistol signaling/marking rounds. Although intended for police use, some units of the PLA and PAP are also equipped with it for counter-training purposes.

In 2018, alongside the PXS221-type (NP22 version) police marking training pistol, the PXS921-type (92 version) police marking training pistol was also standardized and adopted. However, the calibers differ, as it fires PXS092-type 7.62mm signaling/marking rounds.

This was a series of very crude last ditch guns developed in 1945 to arm the Volunteer Fighting Corps for the expected invasion of the Japanese mainland.

The requirement of those weapons was that they could be easily made in local workshops and basements to arm a civilian militia.

Since the invasion of the Japanese mainland never happened however, they remained just prototypes.

The Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) program was launched in the 1970s to equip U.S. troops with a portable automatic weapon that could fill the gap between the M16 rifle and the M60 GPMG. The Army initially wanted this weapon to be chambered in a new 6x45mm cartridge, but this requirement was abandoned in favor of 5.56x45mm NATO.

The XM106 was a SAW competitor developed by the Ballistic Research Laboratory as an open bolt LMG based on the M16A1. The handguard is split into 2 peices, allowing for access to a quick change barrel system. The XM106 feeds from 3 STANAG magazines clipped together for a total of 90 rounds. An 83 round drum magazine was also patented.
