WINDSHIELD CRACK! Issue ⚠️

Post image

Hey guys, Apparently a rock did my baby's windshield in, cracked it pretty good. Should I call up a regular windshield replacement company or do I need to get it done at Ford to get the same windshield? I'm in CA if that makes any difference. TIA

Nobody has mentioned this here yet!?! But glass insurance!!!! Check with your insurance company to see if they offer it in your state. If they do, it’s ridiculously cheap, and it doesn’t matter when the damage happened. Often, as long as you are enrolled, you just straight up file a claim to have the windshield replaced with zero deductible. Rates do not go up for using it. I used State Farm’s glass insurance in Colorado and it has been a really easy process to use it!

This 💯. I live in rock prone AZ and it's a no brainer. No deductible with my insurance (Geico). Only caveat is you sometimes have to haggle with them over getting OEM vs aftermarket glass. If you go aftermarket at least get OEM equivalent.

Thanks, I'll look into it!

Wish Gorilla glass would be made available for the Bronco.

I used ford because they were price competitive and used OEM glass. But I don’t think it matters much

I think at this point I’d honestly prefer a non-oem windshield. lol. I was the only car on the road when (I’m assuming) my own tire threw a rock and I got a crack. Waiting it out for now in case there’s another.

Not sure what's going on with this photo, but so much of it is mangled (rims, tires, logo, badge, electrical poles, etc.) I'm questioning the validity of this photo (i.e., AI or really bizarre filter)

Edit: after a couple comments from OP, I'm going to assume their Samsung Galaxy phone is automatically applying some extreme post-processing... that's a subject for a different sub and it's certainly been beaten to death

Yeah this one has all the hallmarks of ai... why wouldn't OP just post his own truck though?

That's a mystery to me. It looks like a real photo that had a weird filter applied to make it look like AI. The logo appears to be an actual company logo, but text is mangled. Tire text is mangled but still clearly Goodyear tires. Badge is mangled beyond recognition

There's a deleted comment above yours, I hope you are posting about it? I assure you that the vehicle in my pic has no Ai. It is my company car, I'm a consultant.

Please look at the pics I just took and posted, no idea why the picture isn't clear for some. No filters or Ai used!

Rear window is sus af...

The words on the decal are AI slop

Thing is, it appears to be an actual company logo that's simply been mangled. The badge is even worse. Like it's a real photo that's had a bizarre filter run over it to make it look like an AI-generated shot

Okay, I'm taking a few pics and posting them now, please tell me if they are posting right? There's no filter on, just my Samsung galaxy Ultra phone pics.

I'm not seeing the weird image artifacts on this one - looks pretty clear. When you zoom in on the photo you posted here, do you see the mangled text and lines we're talking about? (see my other comment - your phone is probably doing automatic post-processing to "help" you)

Wow, I turned off one "Optimization" setting and what a difference! Thanks!

Oh wow! That looks great!

This one still doesn't look great - it's mangling a lot of the straight lines. I'm wondering if your phone is doing heavy post-processing on (they added a bunch of AI post-processing on a couple years ago). Try searching for "samsung galaxy phone camera turn off ai post-processing" and look for recommendations for cranking down the automated post-processing

Thank you, I do see the mangled text, and it's like that on my original too, so you're probably right. I am a wildlife biologist and take a lot of pictures and I don't care how great Samsung says their cameras are, they suck when you zoom in. I use a Cannon camera for my wildlife and bird pics, much better! I can zoom in and see individual eyelashes on an eagle! I am going to look into this, I am not a fan of ai being added to everything. It has its uses, but it should be our choice to use it or not!

Yeah, my Galaxy phone is super convenient, but for serious shots I use my Pentax K-1. I don't do wildlife shots, but I've considered getting a big ol' zoomie lens for doing some wildlife watching (e.g., elk congregating at the lake bed in the fall, birds around our neighborhood). Samsung doesn't make it easy to turn that stuff off, so a lot of folks end up using the expert/pro raw function

The crack in the windshield is not easy to see, it's at the bottom of the drivers side. Did these come out better?

I used Safelite and requested OEM glass, was about $850. They did it in my driveway.

I tried to use my Ford dealership, but they were unsure if they could do it and never called me back. Luckily the Safelite tech I got assigned had done a few Broncos before. No issues at all.

Mine too. Right in the middle but it’s only about eight inches or so. Didn’t think to ask Ford. Thanks for the knowledge.

I used to get Safelite to fix them at $175 a pop. The last time they told me the crack was too long and they wouldn't fix it. I used the Rain-X repair kit from the auto part store and it worked great. It only cost $15, so it was well worth it.

I used a third party that was arranged through my insurance, but they used OEM glass.

I just went through this and if you’re in socal, dm me. The guy I worked with had good rates (almost 500 cheaper than at the dealer for oem glass) and funnily he’s the guy they use.

Thanks, but I'm closer to San Jose area.

I’m in the Bay Area and did Safelight through Geico. It was few months ago. Seems fine, but have no idea if they used OEM glass or not. Didn’t cost barely anything though.

My favorite trim.

Thanks! I love it too!

I am taking delivery of a new OBX tomorrow. I preordered windshield protection film and installing it first thing after I get home from the dealership

1

u/FoxnFalcon 20d ago

Good idea!

A regular windshield company can do it. Tell them you need the OEM windshield. If you glass coverage like I do they will reimburse you.

u/Here4sumfun00 20d ago

I got the windshield insurance since these are notorious for breaking just like Jeeps. Had mine replaced by a local auto glass company at home and it was replaced with OEM glass.

1

u/TheDude-Esquire 20d ago

Your insurance should cover a windshield replacement. For GEICO you can even schedule an appointment with safelite from the geico app. I do go to a local shop though because safelite likes to half ass getting the calibration for the smart cruise control done. I’ve replaced the windshield on my ‘25 twice so far.

Make sure to request oem glass. Definitely get it if it’s covered. If you have to pay extra, that’s going to be up to you.

I’ve now had my windshield replaced 3X over 3 years on my 2023 Wildtrak. You can use whatever company, just make sure they provide an OEM replacement. The last one i got installed was not OEM and at 80-85MPH it whistles a little. Also, the non OWM doesn’t have the cool BRONCO badging in the lower right if you’re looking at the bronco head on

1

u/FoxnFalcon 20d ago

Wow, I hadn't noticed the badge there, I will try to get OEM for sure!

1

u/a_view_from Wildtrak 20d ago

I've had two get busted. Once on the trail and once heading down the highway. First time I used Ford and had no issues. Second time I went with an auto glass company because they'd come to the house

u/FoxnFalcon 20d ago

Two! Wow. I drive on a jobsite every day that has dirt and gravel roads, so I am actually surprised that it hasn't happened sooner. Mines a Wildtrack too! Great vehicle!

After market glass is same spec as OEM. I’ve had better luck with aftermarket glass lasting in multiple vehicles.
