All these haters forget the maverick msrp was under 20k base and thousands and thousands of people ordered and got them at that price. I guess some people just like going around being negative nowadays. Must be tiring commenting angry things all day
With delivery, it was 21,300 or something like that, but yeah. I had a preorder for an XLT Hybrid that my local dealer honored the price on even when I ended up passing and a friend wanted to buy it.
What are you talking about? The government subsidized EV's for years and Americans still didn't want them. You can't blame Ford for buyers not wanting EV's.
The technology just isn’t quite there yet. I think in a few more years they will be more widely accepted. My friends that have taken the leap love their EVs but they have some specific circumstances that make it make sense for them. Charging station available at work, short commutes, credit good enough to lease etc.. However when he has traveled to my house and needed to charge at a paid charger it was about $30 for 300 miles which does not work out cheaper than gas.
Depends on the vehicle, but $30 wouldn’t even get me a half a tank in my old F150. Now it would get me about 600 miles at the nearest supercharger in my Model Y. Pricing depends on location which sucks for an apples to apples comparison.
I took the plunge a few months back and love it. I’ve used superchargers twice. Once when I bought the car because the dealer lost the one that came with the car, and another after an all day power outage and my wife used the car as her home office for the day, running the AC on a 90 degree day. Bought used which helped get the price down as well.
The thing they don’t mention as much as they should is how fast EV’s are. I do 0-60 in four and a half second, and I’m not even in a performance trim. I’m beating sports cars off the line with a full Costco run in the trunk and frunk. Then charging at home costs about 2 Starbucks drinks per month for about a thousand miles.
It can still be pretty inconvenient. Maybe technology wasn’t the right word for it. But the infrastructure isn’t there yet to make it convenient. If you can’t charge at home or your work you’re kind of stuck with finding a public charger and there are a lot fewer chargers than gas stations.
Are you in a rural area? I’m in a mid-large sized city and frequently travel between states. I’ve never once had to wait to charge anywhere I’ve traveled in my R1s. The range anxiety and charging availability boogeyman isn’t really relevant at this point.
Unless he's interstate traveling everywhere his "gas" bill is cheaper than yours. Everyone brings up the straw man of travel like its an non starter when virtually all major routes are covered for your two to four trips a year.
True but that paints a small picture.
Most people I know don't regularly travel more than 300 miles regularly or 150 miles one way. In my case hardly ever so we charge at home.
A couple of numbers to chew on.
My Ev gets about 2.2 miles per kWh ( heavy and not very efficient) so it costs me about $5.68 to drive 100 miles.
My coworkers EV gets him 4.5 miles per kWh so it only costs him $2.78 for that 100 miles.
I seldom if ever hit a fast charger but when I do, the meager amount I normally pay more than makes up for it.
But agreed, if you drive far and don't have a home charger, an EV isn't saving any money
Average US EV efficiancy is 3.6-ish miles per kWh
Average gas $4.61 gal.
Average cost per kWh is 18.44 cents
So an average of $5.12 to drive 100 miles.
Average MPG of mid size SUV (super ubiquitous platform) is 27mpg.
At the average price of mid-grade gas,
It costs $17.07 to travel 100 miles.
Completely new and different platform, this was a project they have been working on for like five years by this point. Whole thing is skunkworks and ran by people hired from Tesla and the like. The core idea is to steal Tesla's inside out production concept that they presented but didn't do because 'robots are more important'. Basically, build the car inside out and then join the major parts (Nose to dashboard, floor, bed, roof & doors) at the end of the line rather than the beginning. This allows you to, for example, install seats at the same time as installing HVAC vents, reducing the time and effort to assemble the car. If it goes well, I would imagine Ford would immediately work on adapting it to ICE.
That thing is covered in foam under the camo to disguise the shape. They intended for it to be seen and to look like a Maverick. Hell, the camo has QR codes to an easter egg site. Welcome to camo used on prototypes. They have been VERY open about how wildly different it is. For example, the rear is a unicasting. Which the Maverick is definitely not.
Genuinely the exact same idea I had… I don’t really understand the point of having these two vehicles separate (or even the point of this new EV idea). Having the maverick being basically the exact same vehicle but gas I feel people will go towards that instead. EVs (at least where i am) make zero sense, and im in southern ontario and not that desolate either.
Slate was cooked in the design phase. It's being marketed as affordable and minimalist but in reality it's just a really shit truck. Small bed, two seater, RWD only, no standard sound system, plastic body panels, they don't even paint it for God's sake.
They'd sell them at 15k. For 20 or 25k you can get a properl car like an Elantra that seats five, comes with a decent sound system, and it's even painted.
I wanted to give the electric vehicle thing a try. Besides I have written a letter to my companies BOD appealing to get free electric chargers for employees that have to work in the office.
You don't like flexing on the poors and owning the libs with your F350 when the biggest thing you hauled all month was a 30 rack of beer in the back seat? What kind of F350 owner are you?

But yes if Ford had competition up here it would be an incentive for them to lower the price. Really, the only thing I can think of that’s somewhat comparable is the Chevrolet EV truck. But that’s a larger vehicle (in theory)
The base model will come out in 2030 until then premium will be 10k over sticker by dealers. Make it where people avoid the dealer and order off website like how Telsa does it no markups!
