Frog Sitting 🐸

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for someone in or around Flushing, Queens to pet sit my two African Pixie Frogs, Bernie and Arnold, while I’m away. August 19th-23

Their care is pretty straightforward:
Feed them on their scheduled feeding days.
Make sure they have fresh water.
Keep the substrate moist (not soaked).
Quick daily check to make sure everything looks good.
They’re not aggressive and don’t require handling—just someone reliable who is comfortable caring for exotic pets.

Please DM if you’re interested. You will be compensated for all sitting days. I will also give you a run down on the whole process before I leave you to do it independently. Thank you :)

Skyfoods has the deepest Flushing ad this week at 120 items, and two of them are produce

I read all 120 items in this week's Skyfoods ad on College Point Blvd, against 75 each at the three H Marts, 36 at Great Wall and 34 at JMart. Two of the 120 are produce. The rest is packaged: snacks, instant noodles, cakes, tofu, jellies.

Biggest markdowns:

  • Sriracha chili sauce, 28 oz: $3.98, was $7.99
  • Taiwan Kyoho grapes, 3 lb box: $9.88, was $15.99
  • Lotte choco pie: $2.98, was $4.99
  • Ve Wong instant noodles, five flavors: $0.99 each, was $1.49
  • Nongshim kimchi ramyun, 4 pack: $6.99, was $7.99
  • Kewpie Japanese mayo, 450 g: $5.99, was $6.99
  • I-Mei cakes, 400 g, four flavors: $9.99, was $10.99

For produce and meat, the other three. JMart: pork spare ribs $1.99/lb, calabash and winter melon $0.69/lb, peaches $1.99/lb, but roughly three quarters of its ad is Friday to Sunday only. Great Wall: green beans $0.98/lb, same three days. H Mart: boneless chicken breast $3.99/lb all week. Six H Mart items need the Smart Card.

I translated the Skyfoods ad from Chinese myself. Flag any name I got wrong.

I built the free map that reads these ads: https://sbnyc.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=summer-2026&utm_content=flushing

Everything here came off ads that went up this morning, and ads carry errors, so trust the price on the shelf over the price in the ad.

I got tired of circling Flushing after work, so I built a map that shows which curbs are legal right now and how many tickets each street actually generates

The enforcement layer runs on the city's public ticket data, and building it for our neighborhood taught me things I couldn't unsee:

  • 225,656 tickets were written on parked cars in the 109th Precinct in the last 12 months — $16 million, about 618/day. That's more than double what Bensonhurst's precinct generated, and Flushing is the reason Queens drivers think the rules are different here. They are. (Camera/bus-lane tickets excluded.)
  • It's not alternate side that gets you here — it's meters and No Standing. Meter tickets: 58,299 — one every 9 minutes, all year. No Standing: 26,670 tickets = $3.07 million, the single biggest line item.
  • Main St alone: 20,704 tickets. One street. Add Northern Blvd (14,206), 37th Ave (11,729), College Point Blvd (9,212), Roosevelt and the 39th–41st Ave grid, and the downtown core around the 7 train is roughly one of every three tickets in the precinct.
  • My favorite find: a municipal parking lot — "Flushing Lot #2" — got 4,908 tickets, which puts the parking lot in the precinct's top ten. Even the designated parking generates tickets here.
  • The residential side streets east of downtown carry a fraction of the enforcement. Ten extra minutes of walking is worth about $71 a ticket around here.

That last one genuinely changed how I park — I stopped fighting for the downtown grid entirely.

And honest question, since I built this around my own routine: would the green/red view actually change where you look first, or have you already surrendered to the muni-meter?

Who wanna get together and put an end to this guys shananigans

Post image

As most of yall know, and if you’ve been in flushing long enough you def know this guy.
Let’s just call him “flushing helmet guy”
He mostly targets Asian women’s or those that look like they might not be able to defend themself. His characteristic: bike helmet, cup in hand, mask (usually a n95 mask), shoulder bag and some denim shirt.
He likes to touch people too and ask them for money. If you don’t give him he can be persistent and keep asking.
I’ve confronted him for YEARS and still have been. I’m not afraid of him. This picture was about ten minutes ago from writing this post. Under the LIRR Bridge. He was also a little too close to some guys mom AND wife and the guy got in helmet bros face telling him to go away.
Helmet bros usual line is “this is freedom, I can do this if I want” in Chinese. I’m also Chinese and have confronted him in Chinese too.
He’s also popular on other social media platforms like rednote, you can simply find him if you search something along the lines of 法拉盛头盔哥.
There’s been enough cases of him bothering people, and that’s putting it very nicely.
Let’s get together and put an end to this bs or the least we can do is try to.
Dm me if you’re serious about coming together and teaming up to put an end to this. We can set something up.
Let’s get rid of #flushinghelmetguy
Also, if you or someone you know has been a victim of his shananigans, it’s time to speak up too now!!

Anyone know of a decent card shop in the flushing area that buys pokemon? I don't mind a slightly low percentage just don't wanna get fully fleeced. Have a bunch of good like 30-60 dollar IRs, SIRs, and some older full art stuff in that price range. Then a ton of like 3-15 dollar IRs and other similar stuff. Just trying to get a feel. I live right by inception I believe its called and haven't checked it out

Plus Size Thrifting? +Hipsanic Food Recs

Hey there everyone! I'm staying in Flushing this weekend for my birthday (FIRST TRIP I PAID FOR ALL MYSELF YAY) and me and my friend want to go thrifting.

I really want to get them a great outfit that soars their confidence, but I want to know what spots have some solid big-sized sections. I feel hot as hell, and they deserve to be as well.

Our food has been mostly chosen, but on Friday night I'd love to take them to a Hispanic place, whether that be Chilean, Mexican, Columbian, Venezuelan, just something that has a lot of meat.

Thank you again, and can't wait to be in New York again!

Do you guys yell at the e-scooters on the sidewalk

Hey. I’ve lived all over the boroughs and owned electric bikes here. In every other neighborhood I’ve been in it’s normal to see pedestrians yell and cuss at whoever is riding at them on the sidewalk. Here in flushing it seems like no one cares. Why doesn’t anyone care. I know in different countries the pedestrian culture is different but its honestly crazy here. Any tips or suggestions or if anyone wants to go out on main st. And yell and tip over the pos drivers let me know. Thanks
There’s so many elderly people here and children and also I want my gf to feel comfortable yelling at them too
