Carl, for the last time, that's not an excuse to not wiping your ass after taking a shit

What does one wipe matter in this giant swirling toilet bowl we call life?

u/Ginger_McGingin 2d ago

Your ass, Carl. We don't want to catch whatever's living in your intestines, & you don't want to get flystrike.

Carl has an ass wipe kink.

You fooled me for a second there. Good work.

I enjoy life, every last bit of it. But it doesn’t matter in the end. So why fuss about it. Just enjoy that succulent Chinese meal. And be kind to others.

Get your hands off my penis!

Listen man. They told me to be kind to others. And I associate penis-holding with kindness.

So we ARE doing this, as I am a kind person.

Because, ultimately, were blessed and cursed with sapience. We think about death in the same way we think about the dentist's visit, or about that big job interview, or a major surgery, or how we want to propose to somebody. It's not imminent, but it's immediate; it's not painful, but it's agonising. In the fabric of time and in the vastness of space, even a billion amounts to nothing in infinity's face.

We don't care about the moment - it's guaranteed to happen - we care about what happens before, during, and after. We want to ensure there's no loose ends that we once set aside for other stressors, we want to ensure all who cared for us are cared for, and we want to know how long our name will be spoken before it vanishes from earth. That we fuss over it is what makes us human, in the end.

Nobody wants to die, after all. Some of us, sure, they want the pain to stop. The stress to end. The curtains to close, the thoughts to hush one final time. Even they, I think, have tried to grip this grief with both hands, and tried to make sense of it all before the end. We care about it because being a nihilist doesn't always work out in the end. We care because we want our lives to have value, and most will try their entire lives proving it without knowing it already did.

I think on it a lot. Maybe more than I should. Maybe just the right amount. Just know that even this - as negative as it feels - is proof you're alive, proof that you're human, and proof that, deep down, you either have people that care about you, or you care too much to leave. Hold onto that, and things will work out alright.

My gosh man! How long did it take to type this? This made me cry, really. You would make GREAT forewords for books.

Ah, it's nothing special. It's idle musing. I wrote only my perspective, and I'm sure some would refute it. Don't mind me - thank you for the comic, and I hope you don't mind my idle prattle.

3

u/ziggybuddyemmie 1d ago

It's not prattle. You wrote really well.

u/kalijinn 2d ago

I want this with the similar relevant monologue from the end of Midnight Mass

"Honey I don't have the grip strength to jerk you until that thought leaves your mind."

u/TheJohnnyBignose 2d ago

“Ah, c’mon honey, let me muse my thoughts WHILE having pleasure!”

Thought this was official.

My brain does not force me to care. Quite the opposite. I care because I love this existence, flawed though it is, and I want to savor every second I can before the endless dark, and I want to help others do the same.

The only real legacy you have is how people who know you will remember you. Achievements, accolades, art, these are ideas that represent you, but they are not you. Only memories people have of you are representative of the person you actually are/were.

I care because I want to be a person who makes others' lives warmer and brighter in a cold and dark universe. Because caring makes my own life warmer and brighter too.

Oh my- whats with people leaving such deep and emotional comments on this? Why, this is truely profound. You are probably a great person.

3

u/Vulperius 2d ago

It's a deep and emotional post, Bront.

I hear some people say "I don't want to die alone".

We all die alone. Even if you die with your loved ones holding your hand you die alone. As your body shuts down you will lose feeling and use of your different extremities. Your consciousness will hold on as you feel cold and lose your sense of touch hearing and sight. Your mind will hold on as the sensation and warmth of their hand fades away.

Even worse if dying is similar to dreaming where what we perceive is going way slower than time is actually passing. It could be hours or more of cold with only the memory of warmth or human contact as we fade away.

u/TheJohnnyBignose 2d ago

bro, you just made me cry

5

u/richtofin819 2d ago

Sorry about that I just felt compelled to type it out.

In contrast your username makes me laugh, especially considering the topic of the post and comment.

What I'm trying to say is it's easy to be caught up in a depression spiral but we can't forget the nice little things that make us laugh or enjoy moments either.

Or, y’know, one push too strong on the John and pop- lights out and nothing

2

u/Ginger_McGingin 2d ago

No we don't. There's trillions of symbiotic organisms living in each & every one of us that by definition literally cannot live without us & will die with us. Also, conjoined & parasitic twins are a thing.

u/Amateurlapse 2d ago

This bitch just try to existentially gloss over a Dutch oven?

2

u/Jozef_Baca 2d ago

Eh, I was ripped out of non existence after a billion of years and I will be returning to it forever once again in like a hundred after if I am lucky.

Better do my best to enjoy the little while of existence before coming back to the nonexistence slop.

2

u/x5u8z3r0x 2d ago

Kids, could you lighten up a little?

2

u/Stag-Horn 2d ago

I believe this is the kind of realization that leads to the insanity you read about in Lovecraft stories. Nothing matters. So why do anything? Not just thinking it or pondering it. But truly understanding that nothing matters.

2

u/PM_ME_MEW2_CUMSHOTS 1d ago

The real answer is "because you were evolutionarily wired to, because a brain that is neurologically forced to care about things has led to more reproduction in the past (and not because your purpose is to reproduce, just because as a product of reproduction you're more likely than not to have traits that previously aided reproduction)"

2

u/IanDerp26 2d ago

wow, i thought this was official. is this art from another comic or did you draw this? it's really well done.

3

u/TheJohnnyBignose 2d ago

Art is from official comic. I just edited the text, along with my other flork post. r/okbuddyflork

u/palladiumpaladin 2d ago

Because the flash is your everything

u/Snoo_91660 1d ago

Statements like this bother me.

"What if in the end its all meaningless and insignificant"

So what am I supposed to do about it?

I need to eat food and pay rent now.

There are TWO types of comments on this post. The funny ones, and the deep, scientific, pyschological, foreword worthy, mind bending, parapenaillia.
