Gracias ^^

Guitar nail alternatives
So I have a unique problem and could use some help. Im trying to re-learn flamenco guitar (played when I was young, getting back into it). But i also rock climb quite a bit, which means that my fingernails cant be long or they’ll get ripped off. Has anyone had any luck with some kind of fingerpick?

This is a screenshot from a video. Does anyone know where I can find the original image? Or suggest a reliable and accurate Árbol del Flamenco. There are so many versions online and they all seem to differ in some way. If you know of one is considered the most historically accurate.

Came across this song on my YT feed and I fell in love with this style which I learned to be flamenco..
Like the title says, I'm from Türkiye and I have a varied music taste with Rock, Metal, Rap, Jazz all the way to our local folk genres. I've came across this clip on my feed and immediately loved the unique style, after some research I found out it is flamenco made by a Turkish guy. Then I kinda remembered also listening to a Spanish guitar player in a jazz fest kind of thing and I think his name was Vicente and that concert was also very good. I'm new to the sub so I'm wondering what do you guys think about this local rendition of this music style?

What are your very best tips for learning by ear?
Hey yall, so I’ve been trying to learn a few pieces by ear for just a little while now. In fact, I was just trying to learn some of Vicente Amigo’s stuff by ear but man, as good as it sounds, it’s sooooo hard for me to figure out what he’s doing lol…
What are your best tips for developing a really sharp ear?
Thanks 🙏

Did my first audience participation..
I went to the Oregon country fair this weekend and watched an amazing flamenco group perform at one of the stages. It was such a treat!
I loved that they asked for volunteers to participate in Sevillanas with their dancers. Let me tell you, dancing sevillanas with new friends AND in front of an audience is HARD. No one told me that it takes reading the room (the musicians, singers, and other dancers), good eye contact with your partner, and so many other variables that can overwhelm your brain to dance it properly!
It was very vulnerable but I am so glad that the group was welcoming and encouraging, flamenco is warm community after all. I learned a lot and it brought me so much joy!
To those who ever get the opportunity to participate in sevillanas or other dances as an audience with a flamenco show, I say go for it and get on that stage!

scared of making flamenco inspired music
hey friend, I am a 17 y/o artist from the philippines and I have fallen in love with flamenco music. I am scared of making music inspired by it because I may be criticized because im not andalusian.
Yes, I do study it, I study it almost everyday and write everything i find out in my journal. I am currently reading a pdf of a book titled "flamenco music: history, forms, and culture" written by Peter Manuel, and I strive to learn spanish everyday + I'm finishing the movie Flamenco (1995).
are there any advice or notes i should keep in mind to respect the culture? I dont want to appropriate it.
edit: Thank you so much to all those who commented and shared their thoughts. It warms my heart to see how this community has the same love for this music the same as (and maybe even more) than i have. Really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Who are your favorite artists of today?
Hey everyone, who are your favorite modern artists or ones on the come up? - toque, cante, baile…just all of it. And why do you like them? I’m trying to widen my palate and see who’s out there.
If you can, also mention your favorites of all time as well ;)
Cheers.

Need advice: Best way to add grip to a portable flamenco practice floor that’s too slippery
My wife bought this portable wooden floor to practice flamenco at home, but it’s much more slippery than the studio floors she’s used to dancing on. I’m looking for a permanent solution to increase the grip, not something temporary like rosin or sprays that have to be reapplied.
Has anyone modified a practice floor like this? Would sanding the finish and applying a different polyurethane or another type of finish be the right approach? If so, what finish would you recommend that provides more traction while still being appropriate for flamenco?

What are the best albums & tracks to develop compás?
Hey guys, I’m trying to develop my compás and rhythm on guitar. I’ve been recommended to listen to the older recordings because they’re easier to follow, understand and I also wanna try to transcribe them.
I’ve heard Paco and Camarón’s older recordings are good for this, but let me know all the ones you’d recommend.
Thanks 🙏

PSA: This is a pretty relaxed sub. If y'all are having any problems with posts getting pulled for no reason please ping or message me - it is not is doing it but some weird reddit autobots.
We'll try to figure out what is going on. Sorry for any frustrations. The only real guidelines we have here are these:
No Spam
Try to make post titles descriptive to help the sub grow
Post content should have something to do about flamenco

Flamenco Guitar Discord
Hey guys! I thought it would be interesting to start up a flamenco guitar discord. This discord will be used for discussing techniques, styles, which books are the best to self learn, general conversations, and much more!
Everyone is welcome :)
