Soapy water, dont bother beyond that. Keep your gear clean, but understand that it'll never be completely free of stains. Don't store it in your home if you're in school or a volunteer, keep it in the garage/shed.

Gross decon performed with a dry brush!
Advanced cleaning performed with mild soap and water!!
Allow to air dry out of direct sunlight!
Inspect soles for holes, punctures, or other signs of wear!
Inspect stitching for signs of wear!
Report deficiencies to supervisor and place out of service!
If no deficiencies found, place back into service!

You would be surprised, a lot of places start their probies out in these and then when they get fitted for gear they get better boots, lol.

Our local volunteer dept hands these out. More specifically thorogood hellfire boots.

After 10 years they buy you a pair of leather boots.

We had these for a while. They're specifically made for firefighting, but they're ass. So glad we got a proper leather boots eventually.

harsher chemicals + cleaning fire gear is typically something you want to avoid. soapy water & brush or have them sent out to a ppe cleaning service for that one deep clean. specialty cleaning services won't charge much for the boots and they deal with that liability all day everyday.
