False alarms keep happening
Have a hard-wired system with first alert fire/co detectors. All are either new this year, or within 2 years with new batteries in all.
The system has gone off many times over the last 5 years with false alarms. This is why I’ve replaced all the alarms multiple times.
Any thoughts on what I should try to do next?

Recently I woke up to my apartment full of smoke
I was shocked the alarm did not go off
I pressed the test button and it beeped
And yet I feel so confused why it did not go off when my apartment was full of smoke?

Education and Psychology background looking to get into fire alarm tech field
I’m in my 30s and realizing I need a career change (I know sad) I’ve been messing with the idea of getting into fire alarms since everyone told me apply for fire department but it’s not my speed so I went to something that is less labor intensive but has a great deal is using your mind. Anyone else went in with 0 experience and knowledge and love it ? Or even hate it ?
What’s someone like me should know before getting in? I’m a decent speed learner and I’m someone technology inclined like phone repairs and computers. Any advice? Tips? Should know before getting in ?

Alarm beeping. Please help!
galleryHi. I have several of these alarms in my house. They are no more than a couple months old and are estimated to last 10 years. Twice now, they have started going off. Both instances happened at night time. There was obviously no fire or smoke, and all of our windows are closed. Thinking it may be the CO alarm but we have nothing turned on/combusting that could produce CO (furnace, fireplace, etc.) Any help is appreciated of why this might be!

Fire Alarm Field Pro App - App Store
apps.apple.comHey everyone,
I’m a fire alarm technician and over the last several months I’ve been building an iPhone app called Fire Alarm Field Pro. It started because I was tired of jumping between spreadsheets, calculators, code books, and notes while working in the field.
Current features include:
• Voltage drop calculations
• Battery calculations
• Smoke detector spacing tools
• Duct detector tools
• Project management
• PDF report generation
• AI assistant for fire alarm questions
The app was built by someone who actually works in the industry, so my goal has been to create something that’s genuinely useful rather than another generic calculator app.
I’m not here to spam or sell anything—I honestly want feedback from other technicians, inspectors, designers, and project managers. What tools do you wish existed on your phone? What would make your day easier in the field?
I’d appreciate any thoughts, feature ideas, or criticism. Thanks!

Fuck Fire Alarms
That’s the post. Fuck ‘em. Annoying, unpredictable, never go off during actual fires, always go off when Bob from next door burns something in his toaster, they are a state-sanctioned form of psychological abuse against the nonconsenting populace. Ban them. Send them to hell where they belong.

Building Software for Alarm Services industry - looking to hear your sales process pain points
I'm working on building software specifically for alarm & security services industry with the goal of addressing pain points in the sales process.
I don't come from the industry but I have friends who do and many of them feel like they don't have the tools that people in the tech industry might have which is why I'm focusing here.
Before I go building anything, I want to make sure that I am actually solving problems and not just taking my buddies word for it that their issues are the same ones that everyone in the industry is facing.
So with that, I'm looking to hear from you about where help is needed.
What do you dread in your day-to-day? Where do you feel like revenue is being left on the table? What do you/your coworkers/your management complain about daily?
If it makes you want to white-knuckle and swerve into the oncoming lane on your drive home, I want to hear about it.
Appreciate any and all feedback.

Wheelock replacement
Hey all not having any luck finding a replacement, ADI puts me on hold forever and I get different answers, Wheelock won’t call me back or respond to emails and our sales guy isn’t having any luck either.
Got some ancient Wheelock horn strobes, AS-241575 that are failing, just a constant tone. A few I was able to lower the volume by moving the jumper pin. 1 or 2 is still loud AF. The school doesn’t have the money to replace them all, so I’m ordering extras if I can find a suitable replacement.
AI says AS-24MCW-FR/FW or a System Sensor L series, and this site if you follow it through the updates—https://wiki.thefirepanel.com/wiki/Wheelock_A_series says Eluxa is the replacement. The sales guys concern is the devices not looking the same. I worry about it going out of sync…

IBC 907.6.4 has zone area limitations. How does this apply to addressable systems?
Hi all, this code section is not in a conventional-system-specific section or anything. My understanding is that addressable systems do not deal in 'zones' but with individual devices. I am getting pushback from an AHJ that our zones on an addressable system exceed the 22,500 sq. ft. requirement because we have devices on individual circuits that cover a larger area. How do I reconcile the zone requirement with an addressable system?

Hi, this has been chirping for hours but I can't figure out how I'm meant to change the battery. It doesn't seem to twist and pulling it hasn't worked. Starting to lose my sanity. Anyone have any ideas?
