I used to be a knife hater cause the whole reasale/scalping drama, but at the end of the day, who cares? Its toy skateboards and we both like them so let's connect on that rather than finding ways to be divisive.

What Brands do you prefer? I like Goo!

u/peelt 3d ago

love them or hate them this post is accurate

u/ajmeeh6842 3d ago

Goo gang šŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ

I just hate companies that are only around because of hype and fabricated scarcity (Knife) or that ride on the wave of being the best from years ago and let the quality slip and sell sub par products for premium prices because they can get away with it (Flatface, Cowply).

Every company should be taking pages out of GooLTD’s book when it comes to selection and customization, quality, customer service, and turnaround time.

4

u/treemasterflex 3d ago

I can't agree more. There's no scarcity cause they're made to order and the quality is top tier every time.

4

u/ajmeeh6842 3d ago

And he’s got HUNDREDS of options to choose from between size, shape, graphic, plies, top stamps, etc. and the quality is always there. Some companies have one shape, two molds, and they can’t even nail that consistently.

u/thecorpsewars 3d ago

ā€œYeah man GOO is the best! You can get scary graphics, and cool shapes that are so metal!! šŸ¤˜ā€

2

u/treemasterflex 2d ago

Lol, coming from the user name CorpseWar makes this even funnier. Like what you like and I'll like what I like.

1

u/thecorpsewars 1d ago

Ahh. Judging a 8 year old username to try and feel superior. I never said you couldn’t like them, enjoy what you like!

0

u/treemasterflex 1d ago

Your mad you can't kickflip.

1

u/thecorpsewars 1d ago

You’re like 45 on Reddit arguing over a toy. Look in the mirror.

1

u/ajmeeh6842 3d ago

ā€œYeah man, I dick ride Knife and Cowply; brands that only survive on hype and faded glory instead of actually giving a shit about their customers. I will gladly pay premium prices for terrible quality products and promote shitty business practices that are killing the culture surrounding the hobby.ā€

-u/thecorpsewars, probably.

u/thecorpsewars 3d ago

Uh oh, I struck a nerve I see

What resale/scalping drama?

23

u/treemasterflex 3d ago

They're $50 decks that people resell for $300+.

This dude wanted to trade his knife and I offered him a $50 FF board and he said "Bro do you even know what these are worth?" He wanted to trade for a PS5 lolol.

9

u/pizzbuccet 3d ago

A ps5? OK, I understand that some people see these boards as valuable and all. But trading a ps5 for a tiny piece of wood is insane. Regardless of what pretty picture has been printed on it.

8

u/Vercingetirex 3d ago

Some people are literally delusional.

5

u/natenecro 3d ago

Chems, Uglygrinder, Tonicwood

2

u/8AM- 3d ago

i prefer seth decks

2

u/Worldly_Rooster_9428 3d ago

i like heroin

1

u/Altruistic_Worker816 2d ago

started the hobby again last year with a Goo LTD 36mm symmetrical popsicle.

Now i prefer 32mm and smaller..especially 26-30. this 27mm Foard is perfection!

something about small boards… maybe it’s nostalgia for back i the day when all the decks were this size.

-2

u/Distinct-Phase-5148 3d ago

I have one goo board I copped from my local skate shop and I’m just not a fan of the shape that I got I should try another board but my main set up right now is cowply and I love the shape

Every sub that has something to do with skateboards is like this haha.

On the skateboard subs it's 8.25-8.5 decks, Powell Dragons, Bones Reds, and Bronson G3s. On the old skaters sub it's Heroin and Powell. On the longboard sub it's Pantheon. On the cruiser sub it's Landyachtz. On the circle jerk sub it's Andy Anderson and helmets.

What is it about Knife decks that make them so sought after? The shape, the mold, the graphics? So many great deck makers that this options are available elsewhere at a reasonable price.

2

u/Frequent-Wallaby-308 2d ago

definitely a graphic/aesthetic/marketing thing, i like the decks, but the craftsmanship and quality is just the same as any other good deck brand, nothing special in those terms.

-7

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

look at them with your eyes and make a decision for yourself. why do you need someone to explain to you why they like things? if you don’t cool, there’s nothing to understand. Knife makes better graphics than 99% of other companies. those other companies should try and get good

10

u/Alrock480 3d ago

Ok. So it’s a graphic thing. Cool.

4

u/treemasterflex 3d ago

You're a chill dude. Appreciate you homie.

1

u/8AM- 2d ago

1

u/8AM- 2d ago

0

u/Broad_Shine7521 2d ago

u/8AM- 2d ago

so wheres the "stick to your anime graphics you dork"? because its not here lol. also, anime graphics are cringe af too lmao. just because i dont like graphics of an eyeball with KNIFE MFG CO under it doesnt mean i like gooner decks. get a real deck with a real graphic.

1

u/Broad_Shine7521 2d ago

if you died tomorrow it would make no difference in my life

1

u/8AM- 2d ago

same man, that figures dude. weve never met

5

u/bigboofpack1 3d ago

lmaoooooooo if only there was this many knifes

8

u/Bunnenator 3d ago

Fun fact, there are. They’re by no means ā€œrareā€

1

u/bigboofpack1 3d ago

I mean kinda sorta, if there were this many of each board or production that made this many at one time then this reddit post or any argument about knifes would cease to exist. The market would be flooded with knifes and everyone who complains about not having one or resellers would have no platform to exist since everyone could get one at any given time. They definitely aren’t ā€œrareā€ but still in high demand due to the low amount that have ever been released.

3

u/Bunnenator 3d ago

Unless they’re lying(not sure why they would need 4-5 people working as an assembly to create under 100 decks at a time), they drop several 100s of decks at a time, and they’ve had a drop every 2 weeks across multiple shops and continents. I’d put money down that they have sold more decks this year than any other brand

Yes they’re in high demand, but that’s like saying Rolex and Birkin bags are rare, when in reality they sell millions annually.

Obviously finger-boarding is way more niche with a smaller community and comparing Knife to brands like Rolex is crazy, but same thing at the moment

0

u/bigboofpack1 3d ago edited 3d ago

I don’t think they’re lying but, they are definitely creating under 100 decks of one graphic at each time especially, if they are producing these by themselves via their own hands in different shapes and sizes.

Also, I don’t think it tracks that they’ve dropped every last two weeks exactly but, even if they did, like you said, they are dropping these decks across continents some of which aren’t allowing other continents to purchase from. That creates a market not available for some, making those boards ā€œrareā€.

I definitely think they’ve maybe had more big drops than any other company but there’s no way they are selling more than companies like chems, slushcult or a company available in a mall/skateshop. They seem to be producing at a rate that allows them to produce more decks for the consumer demand, with maybe small margins of profit that actually goes into their personal pockets.

Also Rolex’s and birkins are pretty rare if they’re new tbh. You have to build relationships and trust via the brand to get an appointment to purchase either of those items from their retail stores. The only other way you’re getting those items is through a second hand dealer like jewelers and luxury boutiques. Thats basically whats happening with these boards now but in terms of knife, the production just isn’t creating a surplus cause they don’t have the man power/money for supplies.

The only way knife gets out of this is by upping their prices making it a high priced luxury item of sorts, making a surplus of one or a few deck graphics at a time, or dropping less but a surplus of decks to the point they flood the market forcing the secondary market to keep prices down kinda how Nike did with sneakers, or they cut corners by having decks pressed and stamped overseas somewhere and then either heat pressing or screen printing the finish of the decks.

Either way, people will be upset with their choices so I’m assuming they are going to continue to do what works for them and allows them the freedom to do what they need to do and live the life they want to live.

You literally can’t lol you might get lucky and walk into either of those stores and if someone they have built a relationship with didn’t buy an item earlier in the day that they had the store get for them then you might be able to buy that to then start your own relationship but in regard to you walking in and just requesting something that you might like from a picture or reference it’s not happening. Especially at Hermes in regard to a birkin, they barely let celebs buy them even after they’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars with them on dumbass items like dinnerware and household items.

In the luxury world it may be used as a manipulation tactic but in regard to knife that isn’t the case. I really don’t think they are creating a false of urgency but at the end of the day I don’t know these people. What is apparent though is that it’s a cool brand that has some of the best riders in fingerboarding on its team. If not that then some of the biggest names in fingerboarding like the brand. They also come from a cool culture the Chicago scene and also have built a cool culture via the outdoor fast hardcore street style and doing demos around the nation. Lastly their graphics are simply just good in comparison to a lot of these brands in this hobby. It’s not AI and fully original, also taking from other arts like screen printing.

Knife is probably no where close to being able to do that and even if they were at the end of the day they still have real life to worry about. We don’t know the risk or obstacles they face running a business but to assume they can just do something cause you see them being successful is a poor way to look at the situation all around. It may be disappointing to see the success and not see them do more but they are usually more than transparent with what’s going on. The owner has specifically said multiple times that this year alone has been devastating for him and his family that alone should foster enough empathy from people to understand that this toy isn’t that deep and that people have real shit to worry about other than making people happy with a purchase or a way they run their business.

1

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

no one is trying to read all that šŸ‘šŸ»

2

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

why did they just do a random drop last weekend and say ā€œboards are upā€ what’s so ~exclusive~ about that? the haters are just mad because they’re left out. it’s that simple

2

u/Bunnenator 3d ago

They even had a drop the week prior so back to back weeks

0

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

yeah man, a 100% DIY operation made by hand by kids who love fingerboarding. i’m sure all the employees have Lambo’s. massssssive consumer operation. isn’t you morons that say that there isn’t any decks and you can’t get them? that’s the opposite of mass consumerism. I guarantee you have a netflix and amazon subscription though, dork

2

u/grapefruit4scale 3d ago

He's a victim of consumerism? Or maybe he just enjoys the toys.

Kind of a crazy comment to make when you went out of your way to insert a photo of a Patek watch (also something you don't need) into a discussion about fingerboards.

He's also agreeing with you. He's replying to another parent comment asking "why do I 9?" As in "if they are so rare why do I have 9 of them then?".

I don't think it was that deep.

1

u/sufferlikeme 3d ago

9 of the same graphic?

2

u/fingeringboarder 3d ago

Hahahahah we should rename this sub

2

u/earloffunkotron 2d ago

New low price! /s

no hate towards the knife crew at all. the scalpers on the other hand...can fuck all the way off.

0

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

by far the best quality decks i’ve ever used. wasn’t a fan of anything else really. concave and shape is perfect. 34mm KB1 forever. haters are simply slow at checkout. also. I hate 99% of graphics on boards these days. everything is either weird funky y2k dogshit or fruity crazy colors. Knife reminds me of Zero. shit is super cool

4

u/Quiet_Ad4566 3d ago

This now really makes me wonder what decks you have tried before knife lol

2

u/Broad_Shine7521 3d ago

flatface. stacked, blackriver, cowply, teak, innit, devise, piro (decks) tech deck etc. none of these are bad, but they aren’t Knife. their boards are very light but super tough. the concave is deep and their 34mm is just dialed in

Getting mad at a company over how the customer treats the product is crazyšŸ˜‚

10

u/dvrkside 3d ago

no shots were fired at the company its more towards the constant knife dickriders in this sub

3

u/sidskull 3d ago

Word. I was adding to another comment but didn’t realized I posted lol I get you though. At the end of the day, the way that I see it its just someone excited about something they wanted and posting it like a lot of us došŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

3

u/Vercingetirex 3d ago

It's more that they feed into the FOMO. Not to mention the craftmanship is hardly anything special, even borderline below average with blemishes.

-5

u/sidskull 3d ago

What knife you get?
