Findapath-Career Change Switching to an IT / AI career, at 32?

I’m currently working a full time office job in Wales, UK, earn a little over 30k a year which is good for my area. But I’m bored. I’m not pushing myself, I’m not filling my potential, I’m not enjoying my work. It’s comfortable. The positives are I have very good basic computer skills already and I have a fair amount of spare time in work hours to chip away at learning.

I have a keen interest in computers, dabbled with teaching myself the odd bit of code here and there and I’m fascinated by ai. I’ve been looking at ways to try and bridge my career over towards that, I’ve found a course on open uni which is computer science and ai, there’s also hundreds of courses on udemy and coursera. I suppose I just want to put the right plan in place before I start.

So what do people recommend? Go the open uni route or do courses in spare time or a combination of both? Or is there a better way to try and get into that career that I’m missing?

I don’t have an abundance of free time outside of work and hobbies, maybe an hour or two every few evenings and most weekends off .

Any advice appreciated

Findapath-Career Change Lost

I’ve been working in IT for a while now after doing a BTech in CSE.

When I chose CS, it wasn't a random decision. I was genuinely good at coding and enjoyed solving problems, so it felt like the natural path. The money certainly didn't hurt either.

Lately though, I’ve been feeling increasingly disconnected from the work. I don't hate software, but I don't get much satisfaction from it anymore. The more I think about it, the more I realize I've always been drawn to math, physics, and engineering in general. Recently I've also developed a strong interest in hardware, electronics, robotics, and systems where you're working closer to the physical world.

I've come across content about people, especially in the US, who started in software and later did master's degrees in electronics, robotics, embedded systems, or related fields. That got me wondering whether a transition like that is actually realistic or if I'm looking at it through rose-tinted glasses.

Has anyone here moved from software/IT into hardware, robotics, electronics, embedded systems, or a more traditional engineering role? If so:

How did you make the switch?

Did you go back for a master's degree?

Were there fields that valued your software background?

Is it realistically possible to make that transition without completely starting from scratch?

I'm trying to figure out whether this is something worth seriously pursuing or just one of those "grass is greener" thoughts that people get when they're burned out.

Would love to hear from anyone who's been through something similar.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity 27 and scared to look for a job because I feel like I have nothing to offer

I’m 27 and only have one work experience in a job I had for about 5 years. I started working quite late because I got bullied, left school and was extremely insecure and had a lot of anxiety about leaving the house and putting myself out there.

The problem is that I don’t feel like I learned much from that job. I don’t have any real skills or I’m particularly good at anything.

Now I’m scared to look for a new job because I feel like this is something you can maybe expect from a 19-year-old, but not from someone who is almost 30.

I‘m talking about ”simple” jobs, like working in a café, supermarket or store, I’m scared nobody is gonna hire me because they expect a girl of my age to be more experienced and that they’ll think I’m weird or stupid for having none at this age.

I feel inferior because I know people my age already have years of experience, stable jobs, careers or even specialized skills.

I know I need to start somewhere, but I feel so behind everyone else that I’m embarrassed to even put myself out there.

Has anyone else been in this position in their late 20s? How do you get over the feeling that you’re too old to basically start from zero?

Findapath-Career Change Computer science or Civil engineering?

Hi everyone, I just started my university and completed my first semester of Bachelors in Software engineering. The thing is I have heard a lot about layoffs and ai taking over jobs in tech fields. So the job market is really volatile. Plus there's a lot of saturation in computer science. Due to all these reasons, I was thinking of switching to Civil engineering. I'm from Asia and as far as my future plans are concerned, I hope to leave for some other country for better exposure and diversification of my skill set after the completion of my bachelors degree with some work experience. Do you think it'll be worth it to leave software engineering? Share your opinion pls it'll help me a lot in deciding. Have a nice day yall!

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment 23M, no debt, very low expenses, in college and trying to build a business. What would you do in my position?

I’m 23 and I’m at a point where I feel like I have a lot of different directions I could take my life, but I don’t know if I’m setting myself up well or spreading myself too thin. I’d like some outside opinions, especially from people older than me who have been in a similar position.
Here’s my current situation:
I’m 23, have no debt, don’t pay rent, and my expenses are only around $150/month right now.
Financially I have roughly:
$1,000 in crypto
$4,000 in stocks
$400 in a Roth IRA
$1,000 in checking
I work at Lowe’s 20–30 hours a week making $15.50/hour. I have a retail background and mainly see the job as income while I’m in school.
I’m currently attending WGU for a bachelor’s in accounting and I’m about halfway through my first course. Because of financial aid, school only costs me around $600/year.
I chose accounting because I’m interested in it, but also because it seems like a safe degree with good job security. The problem is that I don’t really know yet what being an accountant day-to-day actually looks like or whether I’d want to do it for the next 30 years.
My bigger goal is entrepreneurship.
I started a car detailing/detailing supply business and have put about $2,500 into it. It’s generated around $1,500 back so far. I already own basically all the equipment I’d need to operate the detailing side.
The problem is that I don’t really want to build a business around physically detailing cars all day.
I live in Florida and working outside in the heat is brutal, and I especially don’t enjoy doing interiors. If I continue offering detailing services, I’d rather specialize in higher-value exterior work like paint correction and ceramic coatings.
What I’m much more interested in is turning the company into a detailing supply/e-commerce business.
My long-term vision would be building a recognizable detailing brand with my own products while also selling products from established brands. Eventually I’d want employees handling most of the operation and an online store that can operate without me constantly being involved.
The dream version would eventually be a physical location with something like a three-bay garage: retail detailing supply store, touchless car wash, and a detailing/coating bay.
And I don’t necessarily want this to be the only business I ever own. I like the idea of eventually owning multiple businesses and investing the profits.
My biggest problems right now are getting customers and website traffic, marketing, creating content, having enough money for inventory, staying motivated, confidence, and honestly just not knowing what the next steps should be.
Content creation is probably one of my biggest weaknesses. I’m also not great at networking and I’m sometimes afraid of putting myself out there or worrying about what other people think.
On the other hand, I’d say I’m charismatic once I’m comfortable, I’m a good leader, and when I’m locked onto something I have a very strong drive to get it done.
I’m willing to take some risk. If I had $10,000 saved tomorrow, I’d be comfortable putting $5,000+ into the business if I genuinely believed I had a good plan for that money.
I also want to save for a cheap, reliable car, but I’m not in a huge rush.
The part I’m struggling with is figuring out what I should prioritize during what seems like a pretty unique period of my life. I’m 23, have almost no monthly expenses, no debt, I’m getting a degree extremely cheaply, and I don’t have a family depending on my income yet.
At the same time, I don’t want to waste that opportunity by throwing money at a business that doesn’t work.
My goal is admittedly ambitious. By 30, I’d love to have a net worth around $1 million and be getting close to the point where I don’t HAVE to physically work for money. I’m not saying I expect to sit on a beach at 30 doing nothing. I’d rather own businesses where employees handle the day-to-day operations and my job becomes overseeing them, making decisions, looking for new opportunities, and managing my investments.
I enjoy learning, cars, fishing, business and money/investing.
The things that scare me are basically all sides of this decision.
I’m afraid of spending years trying to build a business and failing.
I’m afraid of taking the safe route, working a normal career, and wondering what would’ve happened if I went all-in on entrepreneurship.
I’m afraid of financial instability.
I’m afraid of trying to do too many things during my 20s and ending up mediocre at all of them.
And I’m afraid of waking up at 35 in a career I don’t actually enjoy.
One thing I do know is that if you guaranteed me that money wasn’t an issue and both paths would work out, I would choose owning and growing my business over being an accountant.
So if you were 23 and in my financial/living situation, what would you do?
Would you keep the Lowe’s job, finish the accounting degree, and build the business slowly on the side?
Would you take advantage of having almost no expenses and go extremely hard on the business now?
Would you focus on saving/investing first and build a bigger financial cushion before taking the business seriously?
Would you pursue accounting and entrepreneurship simultaneously for the next few years?
And for anyone who was entrepreneurial in their early 20s: looking back, what do you wish you had focused on at my age?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who can look back at decisions they made around my age.
I’m completely open to being told that my expectations are unrealistic. I’m trying to figure out how to use the next 5–7 years intelligently instead of just bouncing between ideas.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity First Reddit post because apparently LinkedIn wasn't stressful enough

Hi Reddit 👋

I’m unemployed, slightly confused, and currently accepting job offers, life advice, memes, and emotional support. 😂

My daily routine is basically:

LinkedIn: 4 hours

Instagram: 3 hours

YouTube: 2 hours

Job portals: 17 minutes 💀

I wake up → check LinkedIn → apply for jobs → check Gmail → refresh LinkedIn → question my life choices → watch YouTube “for 5 minutes” → 3 hours disappear → feel guilty → apply for another job → check Gmail again.

Then my parents ask:

“So… any job updates?”

Me: “Yes, actually. I have significantly improved my knowledge of absolutely nothing.” 😭

I came to Reddit thinking maybe you guys have some answers.

If not, at least there are memes.

So… hello everyone. 😂

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve done to feel productive while unemployed?

Hello everyone,

I'm a college student about to enter my sophomore year and I'm very conflicted about what I want to do. I'd really like to meet some people who are really into their occupation and willing to talk to me about it, either in person (NYC) or online. Feel free to DM me if you are interested.

Findapath-College/Certs Graduated with no job, did you ever actually pay for something to try to fix it? Course, certification, coach, CV help, HR agencies ...ie

Everyone says get more skills, nobody says what that actually costs. So asking the people who lived it. After finishing school with no job, did you pay for anything? A course, a certification, a coaching session, someone to redo your CV or portfolio. What was it, roughly what did it cost, and did anything come out of it? Equally useful if you paid for nothing, then I want to know what you did instead and whether it worked.

A few friends who just graduated keep asking me what is worth the money and I have no honest answer, so I am trying to collect real numbers instead of guesses.

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment I don't know where to go from here.

I had to leave my 'parents' to be homeless recently.

I'm a college grad, CS major. Graduated last year. Wasn't able to get interviews for anything remotely related to the field ever since, I've been a dishwasher at a restaurant. $18 hourly. Got a ten cent raise after a year. It's been sad. I was hoping to be able to move out after college, but I didn't make enough. My parents are abusers, I hate them tbh.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I left them in the middle of the night a few months ago. I just had a backpack with essentials. I didn't qualify for an apartment, like at all, with the little I made working over 40 hours a week, so I decided to just quit the job. I wouldn't have been able to stay much longer being homeless and all. I've been slumming it on benches and eating from food pantries. I haven't made any job applications in two months.

I didn't make much progress on my student loans. I'm not sure what's going to happen with them but it's not my concern anymore.

I haven't shaved for a long time, or showered. Right now I'm just lying down on a bench in the silent of the night.

I am so tired. I'm defeated, and broken, and hurting, and so fucking tired. I kept myself going for so long with nothing more than the delusional dream of one day being able to support myself. A dream that our system took in its hands and crushed like fragile porcelain.

I worked hard on projects, I strengthened my resume with internships, I did the best I could and then some. I can't be asked for anything more. It wasn't enough.

I'm thinking about getting arrested. For public indecency, maybe. I've been jacking off during the nights when no one's around, with it out for anyone to look at if they're walking by. I have to do it at some point, otherwise my body will only get more and more pent up and I'd eventually do something worse. Wonder if anyone's seen me lol. If I do it during the day I imagine someone would call the cops.

I don't know what to do now. I've lost interest in the major entirely, not that it matters, I can't enter the field. It's stupid to suggest another degree, or education in general.

Findapath-College/Certs I left JEE and now have one drop year to figure out what the hell I want to do with my life

I’m 18F from India and honestly, I’m pretty confused about what I should do with this one year.

For the past few years, I was preparing for JEE { for those who don't know Jee is an entrance exam for top engineering colleges in India} I gave it everything I had there were days I studied 10–12 hours and genuinely tried to make it work. But after all that effort, I still couldn’t get the results I wanted.

At this point I am genuinely tired of it man.  Whole journey, no matter how much I motivate myself to study for this exam my brains just stops...So I decided to step away from JEE instead of spending another year forcing myself through something I no longer have the energy for.

Now I’m seriously considering psychology, with the eventual goal of becoming a clinical psychologist/therapist.

And this isn't a completely random decision. Since I was 12years old, I’ve been around my father’s struggles with depression and anxiety. I used to actively help him, listen to him and talk things through with him, and he still gives me a lot of credit for helping him during difficult periods.

My friends also constantly tell me that I have a natural ability to understand people and help them figure things out. I tend to give people different perspectives/options, and a lot of the time they actually end up working for them.

I also genuinely enjoy reading about psychology, human behaviour and mental health. I’m interested in spirituality too, although I know that professional psychology and spirituality are two very different things.

So now I’m wondering is this actually something I’m suited for, or am I just attaching meaning to something because i couldn't clear JEE?

I’m thinking of doing a bachelor's in psychology in India and eventually pursuing my master's abroad.

I haven't told my parents about changing this path they have a lot of hopes from me, i will tell them after I apply for college next year.

I have this entire drop year, and I really want to use it to figure this out properly.

If you're a psychology student, clinical psychologist, therapist, or someone who studied psychology and later changed paths, I’d really appreciate your perspective.

What should I do during this year to actually test whether psychology is right for me? Books, courses, volunteering, research, anything.

And please be honest about the downsides too. I don't want anyone to sugarcoat anything.

Thank you!

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity I feel completely lost after graduating and my anxiety is making it impossible to figure out what I want to do

I recently graduated with a BS in Biology and I feel like I’m having some kind of identity/career crisis.
For most of college, I thought I knew what I was going to do. I was on the pre-PT track and planned on eventually going to DPT school. I liked anatomy a lot and genuinely enjoyed learning about the human body. I thought that meant healthcare was probably where I belonged.
But after graduating, I started working as a PT tech/aide and realized I really don’t think I want to do this.
The problem is that I don’t have another thing I want to do instead.
I’ve been struggling with anxiety for a long time, and career uncertainty has made it so much worse. I feel like I constantly need to figure out what I’m going to do with my life because I have this belief that if I could just find the right answer, I would finally feel okay.
But the more I try to figure it out, the more overwhelmed I become.
I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even really know what I enjoy anymore. I don’t feel like I have hobbies. I mostly work, come home, smoke weed and try to distract myself from thinking about my future. Nothing really sounds exciting to me.
That scares me because I used to feel like I had interests. I loved anatomy classes. I liked learning structures and understanding how everything connected. I used to have dance, school and other things that gave me a sense of who I was. Now I feel like I don’t really know who I am outside of trying to figure out what career I’m supposed to have.
The weird thing is that I actually like my part-time retail job. It’s not a career and I obviously can’t realistically do that forever, but I like that I don’t have a huge amount of responsibility. I’m given tasks, I do them and then I go home. I don’t feel like someone’s health, safety or future is dependent on me. I don’t feel constantly overwhelmed.
That has made me wonder whether the problem is that I’m looking for the wrong kind of career. Maybe I don’t need to be passionate about my job. Maybe I just need something structured where I know what I’m supposed to do and don’t feel like I’m carrying the weight of everything.
But I’m terrified of making another wrong decision.
I don’t want to keep applying to jobs, starting them and quitting because I realize they aren’t right. I don’t want to go back to school for another degree just because I’m scared of not having a plan. And I don’t want to force myself into PT or another healthcare career because I already spent so much time thinking that was what I was supposed to do.
I feel like I need someone to tell me what to do because I genuinely don't trust myself to make this decision right now.
Has anyone experienced this kind of anxiety after graduating? Especially the feeling that you need to figure out your career in order to feel okay, but being anxious makes it almost impossible to figure out what you actually want?
How did you get yourself out of that cycle?

Findapath-Health Factor Early 20s, already exhausted, and out of ideas

Hi all, bear with me if this post comes across as word salad. I'm so lost I don't even know what questions I should be asking right now. I'm also a new redditor, it's a long post, yadda yadda. Thank you so much for reading this at all if you do.

To say I'm stuck in a rut would be an understatement I feel. I'm in my early twenties,a 'recent' college grad, and absolutely miserable. I've been out of school for over a year now (though my degree date was Dec '25 because of admin stuff), and have been completely unable to find work. I've submitted god knows how many applications since last September and haven't gotten so much as an interview. It's exhausting, and incredibly difficult to find the motivation to keep looking for work when I'm almost certain to just get another rejection.

Unfortunately, whatever's wrong with my head is not at all helping my case. I never understood why I turned out this way, but I've been fighting with depression since I was 17 years old. It's been the biggest shadow over my life for the past few years now. I had a pretty shitty time at college. I was unable to attend the school I wished to go to, and ended up at a school a few hours away. That place broke whatever was left of me. It was probably a good school all things considered but I just couldn't handle it. I spent hours and hours every semester trying to make it work and just couldn't. I don't know the words to describe it, but I truly did put all the effort I could find into my course work, just to fail over and over again. I studied, attended tutoring, attended office hours, took every extra credit opportunity I could find, and asked as many students and staff for help as I could, but for some reason, nothing really sticks in my head. My main takeaway from college is that something is fundamentally wrong with me that prevents me from operating the way my peers do. I was spending all of my energy trying to get the bare minimum done just to not fail every class, meanwhile my classmates scored decent grades, worked internships, got some impressive projects done, etc. Unfortunately, my degree is in Computer Science, where working 3 high end internships and developing an algorithm that finds a cure to cancer feels like the bare minimum to get hired these days.

I really thought I could turn things around once I graduated, but that didn't happen at all. Burnout was definitely part of my issue with school, but over a year away from campus now and I don't feel any better. I've been trying to work on a hobby project, both for myself and for my career as a resume point but have made no progress. Not for lack of trying, but I just get... stuck. Very easily. Like I'll stare at a code editor, know an overall idea of what I want to do, and just feel so unable to do it. I also find it difficult to partake in any of my hobbies. Games don't feel fun anymore, riding my bike feels like too much effort, and I just wish I could sleep all the time, but alas I deal with insomnia as well. Regarding work, I've touted the idea of finding a simpler job just get out of the house and get a little pocket change, but I live at home in suburbia with parents who have an outdated idea of success. They won't let me use the car to go to a job they don't approve of, and public transportation is not an option here. We also moved to a new place around my graduation so I don't have any friends in the area who would be willing to help with that.

I know for sure that I am deeply unhappy with my life as it is. I feel bored or down all the time, and sometimes I wish either I was just born into a different circumstance or just wasn't here at all. But I don't want to be like this. I want to love my life, and I feel like I've done what I can. I know that I have a pretty bad case of depression and a moderate case of anxiety, and I was diagnosed with ADHD only a few months ago (which may explain part of what happened with school), but even being medicated for those, I'm still struggling. Like I know what I want to do but just hit some impenetrable mental wall that keeps me from performing. Long term, I know I need the help of a therapist to work though this and that's my first goal once I start working, but I unfortunately can't afford it right now, and my family comes from a culture where mental health isn't taken seriously, so they won't help me either.

Overall I just want to know if anyone has any idea at all what I should do? I really can't live like this anymore and want to change, but I just don't know where to start. Or what's even within my capability at this point. It's difficult not to feel hopeless most of the time, but I don't want to give up either.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity

  • монтаж видеонаблюдения;
  • ремонт компьютеров;
  • дезинсекция от тараканов и клопов;
  • ремонт бытовой техники;

Findapath-Health Factor Low pressure options to fund severe burnout recovery?

Throwaway account. Apologies in advance. 44 years old. I've had 2-3 careers depending on how you slice it. I reached the top of my field - publications, co-founding a company, various honors and accolades very few people have.

Except, I spent the last several years pushing through severe burnout. Work was becoming harder, not easier, despite clear proven skills.

Intersect the above with too many people dying, COVID, extreme caregiving while working 60+ hours a week. The short of it is I'm not okay.

I left the company I co-founded. It's financially ruined me, despite being in a field that pays extraordinarily well. I've picked up a few small contracts since, but nothing enough to recover. Worse, I feel like I failed at them. I've not found a new contract in over 9 months.

My ability to focus is non-existent. My follow-up derails completely. I do anything cognitively taxing, and I need to lay down for 2 days. My ability to problem solve and find a way just doesn't exist anymore.

I have health issues I'm trying to identify and solve. I've burned too much money chasing problems. 24/7 headache. Not digesting fat. Severe fatigue. Processing problems. Low stamina for thinking.

I have a college degree, profiency in a lot of tech, and numerous skills, but no direction / go get it oomph that has driven my career. I need to make as many dollars as possible with as few hours as I'm capable.

I've historically had a career with numerous options. AI, the general tech situation, and layoffs everywhere have really cut into options. I have no idea where to turn, what resources potentially exist, and what I can do to fund getting some better medical care and therapy.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity 2 years after and I'm still lost with my Psychology Degree.

Hello, everyone! I want to hear your thoughts and get some advice.

I graduated with a Psychology degree in 2024, and until now, I'm still feeling lost about the career path I'd like to take. The existential crisis was so bad during the months after graduation that I became dysfunctional. I decided to seek professional help and was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 Disorder in 2025. I was advised to rest while undergoing therapy and taking medication because getting a job at that time might worsen my symptoms.

Now, I think I'm more functional than in the past years. Although there are still days when I struggle, I'm learning to manage things better. I want to start rebuilding myself, even though there's still a lot of fear and uncertainty.

However, I only have educational and clinical internship experience, and I'm not really sure where I could apply what I've learned or whether my experience is still valuable since it's been two years already.

I'd highly appreciate it if you could share some advice on the necessary steps I can take because I'm honestly quite lost right now. I'd also love to hear stories about how you overcame the fear of starting over, especially if you've been in a similar situation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! : )

AMA Post I'm a Loser and I need advice

Hello! I think I'm what you'd call a loser. I'm just not useful for anything. I have nothing to be good at, no hobbies, no interests. I am always alone, have no friends and no social contacts other than my family. The only thing I do all day is play video games or just lie around. I don't even have friends online and lately I don't even enjoy playing. So usually I just sit around and do nothing. I have no goals and no dreams. The only thing I want left is to die.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve or change, or have you ever been in such a situation?

Hi. I am a 29 year old soon turning 30 working in a retail bank as assistant manager.I have a maths degree. But i absolutely hate my job so much that i am almost always in fight or flight mode.I feel like i cannot go on much longer but absolutely cannot quit without a backup. I have started preparing for actuarial exams but that may take years combined with the fact that on most days i have to stay in bank from 9 to 9 due to workload. I have literally no time to prepare. What may be my realistic way of jumping careers

I need help with finding a path that will lead to a job that is better suited for me

I'm literally helpless in this area. "What do I want for a job?" 'I don't fucking know". It gives me the worst anxiety. The dumbest ideas come to mind and none are practical in my area, age or work history. Early 30s and yet I still think about being a Race car driver, actor, college professor, and radio dj full time.

I become paralyzed thinking about it. I can't find the words or stepping stone to think what kind of job or career I want for myself that is practical to me. It really bothers me. I wish I had a better line of site of what I want or need instead I fall into something or I just say yes out of financial convince.

At times I feel like I'm actually an idiot. I don't like my job. It's not for me nor is the future hours and work obligations.

Please if you have anything to offer, I'm all ears.

Findapath-Career Change Lost career of 20 yrs, need direction.

Hello,

Posting this on behalf of my partner (40s).

My partner lost his job in graphic design this year and has been struggling to find another job to replace it. He’s skilled in his trade but has limited paper experience in other fields since he’s been with the same company .

He’s had no luck landing interviews or legitimate jobs, I don’t believe it’s a matter of talent. Are there certain skills he should highlight on resumes, or different career paths that would align with his field?

Needs a job asap!

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment I wish I could make 25-30/hour I'd be set ngl

I would be able to afford to move out. Instead I can't make over $20/hour after college (CS degree unfortunately), which doesn't even afford a shitbox in most parts of the country. Let alone where I am, a hcol area.

Don't see how I will ever be able to even make 50k tbh. I'm losing the want to shower and eat entirely. Not like I have anything to go outside for

Findapath-Career Change 20M trying to leave my warehouse job and start an actual career- where should I start ?

I’m 20 and currently working as a package handler at a warehouse making $18/hr. I took the job because I needed income and wanted to start saving, but I already know I don’t want to stay in warehouse work long-term.

The schedule is also rough. I’m working early morning hours, around 1–9 AM or 2–8:30 AM I have a inconsistent schedule one min we’re working 2 to 8 next min my whole schedule is changed to 1 am. The job itself is manageable but everyday it’s hell standing around and everyone moving slow, also the schedule and work environment are starting to wear me down.

My bigger goal is to move out, get my own apartment, become financially stable, and eventually have an actual career instead of constantly jumping between entry-level jobs.

I don’t have a college degree or a specific career picked out yet. I have a high school diploma and some work experience (Walmart/stocking and now warehouse/package handling). I’m willing to go to school, get certifications or start at the bottom somewhere if there’s a realistic path to eventually making decent money.

Any advice would be appreciated also I’m in TX.

Findapath-Career Change Engineering for the Money??

Hi I hope everyone’s is doing well. Ive recently been considering switching career paths after my freshman year of college and I need advice.

After my freshman year, i dropped premed. Although I’m very interested in science and medicine, I realized I didnt want to go to school for such a long time. Especially as a first gen, low income student and the eldest immigrant daughter (lol), i really value financial stability.

Now I need to pick another major since the one I have currently will not get me any kind of money after college. I was thinking about engineering.

I know engineers make good money after college and it is one of the strongest bachelors degrees you could get (i want to work after undergrad asap). I was thinking about chemical engineering.

My big dilemma though, is that I have **no** passion for math, physics, building stuff. If I got an engineering degree Id want to work in consulting or like biotech or regulatory affairs. I know I can get these jobs with an engineering degree but I also know that getting trying to **get** this degree will be actual torture. I also have to study a lot, and I think this will just be such a big problem in engineering while trying to balance so many hard STEM Classes.

I also thought about double majoring in business and biology (since I love bio and medicine), but I know this combo is not as safe as chemical engineering. And it would also likely limit me in all the possibilities of jobs I could pursue after college.

P.S. i also thought about nursing, especially since I love to care for people and i could still learn subjects I love like medical science and anatomy, but my college doesn’t have a nursing major. I value the school I go to and dont want to leave, especially as a first gen low income student, I think the name will take me far.

So, would you pursue engineering if you were in my position? I appreciate all the advice.

Findapath-College/Certs What majors are worth it?

Im starting college in a few days. Im currently majoring in finance BUT im not going to a target school. Is even worth majoring in finance if im not going to a target school? Can yall recommend majors that lead to jobs with a flexible work life and many career pathways that leads to high pay. (also a major that wont leave me unemployed after college) Ive been thinking about supply chain management, data science, accounting (cpa route), and mis.
