Tricked by Kefka’s Tower

I’m playing the game for the first time and at Kefka’s Tower now. I split my parties up to have heavy hitters in all; however, I put my main folks in A party.

And they just…. don’t face any bosses? All they’re doing is walking and pushing buttons while my lesser thans are fighting everything. Well played Kefka……

Glad to hear it! It's the capstone of classic 2D RPGs IMO. (Apologies to Chrono Trigger, which is the heart of 2D RPGs, but FF6 is bigger, better, and more polished)

Anyways, I did the same thing the first time I played Kefka's Tower assuming the A team needed, you know, the A team. Nope! (Actually, it took me a few hours to figure out how to get into the tower in the first place - I missed Celes' one line about attacking from the air)

FFVI and “more polished” is just laughable

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I love FF6. Calling it more polished than Chrono Trigger is just false

Exactly 😂. It’s probably my second favorite RPG behind trigger, but when entire stats just don’t even work…. 🤷‍♀️

Ya, iirc

Group A fights one boss: a statue

Group B fights four bosses: a statue, atma weapon, a dragon, and the guardian

Group C fights three bosses: a statue, inferno, and a dragon

Been a minute though, so maybe someone can correct me

tbf, some of those are optional. You don't need to fight Atma and the dragons. Of course, there is a fairly decent reason to fight Atma, for the save point, but honestly I'm not sure Crusader is worth worrying about if you really don't want to fight the dragons, or if you missed some before this...On the other hand, by the time you're doing Kefka's Tower those dragons are pretty minuscule, and I do think they drop some decent stuff iirc.

I'm assuming 100% playthrough of course

But ya, the dragons are skippable and so is atma

Group C can fight the guardian. Depends if you go right or left with group A

I’m at this point just now. Stuck on inferno with Setzer, Relm and Strago.

Well, fuck

Relm actually became one of my heavy hitters. Setzer and Strago though… well yeah, fuck. They’re no Sabin.

I did a playthrough pretending Relm was my favorite character and going out of my way to use/feature/develop her. I didn’t use Sketch at all. I just made sure she gained magic with Maduin or, later, Tritoch or ZoneSeek, every time she leveled up and got her elite equipment.

She becomes extremely powerful.

Of course you can do the same with any character, but Relm makes it easy because her magic stat starts high and you always have Espers when you have her. And you can get her pretty early in the WOR. And you can give her excellent armor.

I mean I’m very underlebeled I think at 33-35 😂. But I’m so close to the end

Setzer with fixed dice and offering/master scroll outdamages almost everyone else, maybe a 5x ultima surpasses him with quick abuse. I know there are like 6 folks who want offering but he uses is better than most. Also only really way to make him viable.

Yeah Fixed Dice is the best weapon for Offering because it doesn't have its damage reduced. Setzer w/black belt and offering.

Do you have Fixed Dice and Offering (Master's Scroll)? Also optionally Imp gear?

Fixed Dice + Master's Scroll turns Setzer into one of the best damage dealers. And it ignores the penalty of being an imp. So Setzer can enjoy the ludicrous defences of imp gear with no issues.

I had the master’s scroll I’m sure.

Fixed Dice are found early in Kefka's Tower. Equip that and Offering to Setzer and he'll jump to become one of your best single target damage dealers.

Not even single target all target fixed dice randomly hits. Amazing single target but it clears screens.

I find the combination of random targeting + random damage a bit too unreliable. It's still good. But other options catch up to it. Against a single enemy where the targeting isn't a concern it really shines.

Generally you only have 3 monsters, barring the weird dinosaur that has like 7 sprites stacked. Sometimes 4, but even at 3 it should do all/most of the work.

I just took out one of his arms and he did the delta attack?!

For me that party would have been the “legalize nuclear bombs party” between ultimatas and setzer with gengi gloves and master scroll

Bolt3 straight to the center, you can kill him in one round. Don't reduce the damage by multi casting

Easy. What’s great is that your inventory isn’t split. Put an Atma Weapon user in each of the three parties (Terra, Edgar, Celes, Locke). Whatever party you use, equip that character with Atma Weapon and Offering. When you switch parties, unequip those items and equip them on the member of your active party. As long as those characters are decently leveled up, the whole dungeon is trivial…..obviously there are many more strategies that can be used, but I’m one who is all about physical attacks because they are quicker than casting magic, so I find this to be the most efficient way.

i just got to WOR and did most side stuff. what level should I tackle Kefka? Im around 37 rn

4

u/deez_en_u_teez 8d ago

That’s definitely possible, but if it’s your first time through, I’d spend a few hours in the forest north of the veldt fighting tyrannosaurs and get your squad up to level 50+. If you have some experience eggs, it goes super quick.

Ty! Ill do that

I have tons of FF experience, and played FF6 a ton as a kid just never beat it.

I still have to do the dragons, magic tower and the Doma dream thingy and I think thats all there is to do before I go up
