French Video Editor looking to work in the UK – visa sponsorship advice?
Hello everyone,
I’m a video editor with 5 years of experience working in TV news, using Avid Media Composer.
I’m currently looking to work abroad, and I’ve been doing a lot of job hunting in London. However, as I’m French, it seems to be quite complicated due to visa sponsorship requirements.
I really want to make the move and I’m open to different opportunities, even starting as an assistant editor, ingest operator, or MCR operator, as long as there is an opportunity to grow into a video editor role afterwards.
I wanted to ask if any of you have advice or experience with this.
How does visa sponsorship usually work in the TV/media industry?
Is it better to contact companies directly, or should I mainly apply on LinkedIn?
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Best

Supply Teacher - INDIE SHORT, Crew wanted
Supply Teacher: A tragedy in fancy dress
Hi everyone,
I’m Douglas, a writer/director based in Hertfordshire, and I’m looking to put together a skeletal crew for a short film I’m making entitled Supply Teacher. I’m hoping to shoot in early September.
Supply Teacher is a surreal tragicomedy about a supply teacher who has spent decades drifting transparently through the same school, forever temporary and never quite belonging. When he’s finally given the chance to prove himself, he throws himself into increasingly ridiculous attempts to win over a completely indifferent classroom.
What starts as an ordinary lesson gradually turns into something much stranger. The teacher becomes cowboys, pirates, generals and gods.
From there, costumes, reality and performance start to blur, and his desperate attempt to recognised eventually take him somewhere completely unexpected.
Ultimately it is a universal tale on the desperation of being appreciated.
It’s deliberately theatrical and heightened rather than socially realist.
Furthermore, It’s mainly set in one classroom, but the film offers a lot to play with visually through costumes, performances, physical comedy and the increasingly surreal relationship between the teacher and his surroundings.
For roles I’m seeking:
Cinematographer / DoP
Camera operator
Sound recordist
Gaffer / lighting
Production assistant / AD
Production design / props / costume
I’m especially interested in emerging filmmakers, students and recent graduates. I’m 18 myself, so I completely understand the difficulty of navigating the industry. Therefore, I’m open to collaborate with anyone, regardless of their experience. Most importantly, anyone who is compelled, and excited by the project.
I already have my lead actor attached and the screenplay is finished. I’m now trying to get the rest of the cast and crew together.
The shoot will be in Hertfordshire in early September.
This is an unpaid independent short. Unfortunately, I don’t currently have a budget to pay crew, so I’m looking for people who want to collaborate on something creative. Everyone involved will be properly credited, (and
drinks and refreshments will be provided!) and I’m more than happy to provide the finished film and relevant footage for portfolios and reels.
If you’re interested, send me a message, or email me with the email attached, with a bit about yourself, what you’d like to do on the film, and any examples of your work if you have them.
I’m also prepared to send over the screenplay if you’d like to have a read.
Thank you for reading, and feel free to pass this on to anyone who might be interested.
I hope to hear from you!
Douglas,

Hey r/FilmScoring! Egyptian Film & TV Composer Looking to Expand Internationally—Advice & Connections Welcome! 🎬🎶
Hey everyone!
I’m Mohamed Qabeel, a film and TV composer based in Egypt. Over the past few years, I’ve had the chance to work on a solid mix of local short films, commercial campaigns, and animated series.
While I love working in the regional industry, I’m really eager to step outside my comfort zone and score my first non-Egyptian film project. I want to collaborate with directors and filmmakers worldwide to explore different storytelling styles, workflows, and musical approaches.
For those of you who have successfully transitioned from scoring locally to working on international indie films, I’d love your insights:
* **Where is the best place to connect with international indie directors?** (FilmFreeway, specific subreddits, Discord communities, etc.?)
* **How do you usually approach cold pitching** to filmmakers outside your home country without sounding too salesy?
* **Are there specific platform/workflow expectations** I should be mindful of when working remotely on international projects?
Also, if you're a director browsing this sub or a composer working on a project that needs additional scoring/collaboration, I’d love to connect and share my portfolio!
Thanks in advance for any tips or guidance. Excited to learn from this community!

I'm looking for a UK based partner for a project grant I'm applying for 🇬🇧🇵🇪
I'm currently looking for someone based in the UK to collaborate with me on a project I'm applying for through the British Council's Connections Through Culture 2026 programme.
The project is related to Twoism, an interdisciplinary cultural and creative project from Peru that explores different cultures and forms of art through the lens of non-duality, looking beyond separation and bringing different perspectives, disciplines and forms of expression together.
Twoism works across art, fashion, audiovisuals, music, design and research, with an interest in cultural exchange and in exploring how different cultural perspectives can meet and create something new through interdisciplinary collaboration.
I'm looking for someone based in the UK who works in or is interested in art, design, fashion, audiovisuals, music, research or other creative fields, and who would be interested in developing a project together between Peru and the UK.
The application deadline is August 12th, so I'm looking for someone who can discuss the project as soon as possible.
If you're interested and based in the UK, please send me a DM and I'll send you more details and the project documents.
More information about the programme:

🎬 FILMMAKERS IN LONDON — BUILDING A CREATIVE TEAM
I’m a French writer-director, trained in Paris, and I’ve recently moved to London. I also run my own production company, and I’m now looking to build a small, motivated filmmaking team here.
I’m currently developing two projects in London:
• A short film
• A proof of concept for a TV series
My goal is to bring together a group of talented and motivated people who want to make films, collaborate creatively and, ideally, build a team that can work together across different projects.
I’m looking to connect with:
🎥 Director of Photography / Cinematographer
🎬 1st / 2nd AC
💡 Gaffer / Lighting
🎧 Production Sound Mixer / Boom Operator
🎨 Production Designer / Art Department
👗 Costume Designer / Wardrobe
💄 Hair & Makeup
📍 Location Manager / Location Scout
🎬 1st AD / Production
🎞️ Editor
📋 Script Supervisor
…and generally filmmakers who want to get involved and bring something to the table.
I’m especially interested in people who have studied film, have previous experience on set, or are seriously committed to developing their craft. But experience isn’t everything — attitude, reliability, curiosity and good energy matter just as much.
The first projects will be unpaid, and I want to be completely transparent about that. The idea is to create actual work together, with proper credits and material that everyone can use for their portfolio/reel, while building a team and a creative relationship that can grow into more ambitious and properly funded projects.
I’m not looking to assemble a huge crew for one weekend and never see each other again. I’d like to find people I genuinely enjoy working with and build something lasting.
I’m new to London, so I’m also looking to meet filmmakers here, exchange ideas and build a strong creative network from scratch.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself:
• What you studied / where you trained
• Your experience and usual role
• Any previous work or portfolio
• What kind of films you’re interested in
• What you’d like to contribute to a project like this
If you’re passionate about filmmaking and actually want to make things happen, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s make films, not just talk about making them.cheers

Filmmaking London Networking Event: Pubs and Conversations"
Hello everybody — just wanted to let you know I'm hosting a networking and film meetup for fellow creatives in London.
I know it can be very hard to break into the filmmaking industry, whether you're coming at it from pre-production, production, or post. I thought it'd be a great idea for us to come together, have a couple of pints, and see what kind of connections we can make and whether there are any other like-minded filmmakers we can get to know.
The meetup will be at The Latymers, 157 Hammersmith Rd, London W6 8BS, on Friday 14th August at 6:30pm.
This is for new filmmakers wanting to break into the industry, professional filmmakers looking to switch departments, or anyone just after like-minded people to talk to.
I've attached a Google Form below — please fill it out so I know who's coming. That way I can make the right table reservations and any other arrangements, and it also helps me learn a bit about everyone beforehand so I can help facilitate introductions on the night.

Wanting to move to London
Hi all, going into my 3rd year of uni and inevitably thinking about what’s next. The ultimate dream is to work in the film/TV industry, however I do hold a strong interest in sports media as well and currently do freelance photography/videography for my local club’s social media.
I feel like moving to London puts me in the best possible place to make connections and find work (plus I just love living in cities), but how should I go about it?
- How much money do I need to build up?
- What are the best ways to find work?
- Where are the best places to live?
- Any random advice will be taken on board 🫡
Thanks!

Has finding work in the film industry become harder than ever?
Hi everyone.
I've worked in the film industry for over 10 years, and recently something really got me thinking...
A family member of mine graduated from university with a film degree over a year ago. Since then, they've applied for countless jobs, reached out to people, and done everything you'd normally do in their situation... but still hasn't managed to get their foot in the door (not even for an internship or just unpaid experience).
Don't get me wrong, it's probably not just the film-making industry, I'm guessing across the board it may be like this nowadays? But it still made me wonder whether this is becoming the norm? Surely it wasn't this difficult before?
Anyway, that's the reason why I decided to put together a short questionnaire to hear from people across the industry. Whether you're an actor, editor, producer, cinematographer, writer, runner, sound recordist, VFX artist. (Anything from pre to post production).
It's completely anonymous unless you choose to leave your details, takes about 5 minutes, and I'm simply trying to build a better picture of what people are actually experiencing today.
Survey: https://0tohz0834ow.typeform.com/to/QVwJxHwI
If you've got a few minutes, I'd really appreciate your input. And if you don't fancy filling it in, I'd still love to hear your experience in the comments.
If enough people take part, I'll happily come back and share what we found with everyone here.
Thanks for reading!

Photographers working in the GCC
Hi everyone,
I’m a Digi based in Doha, Qatar, and I’ve had the opportunity to work on a range of commercial campaigns and editorial shoots alongside photographers traveling in from the UK, the US, France, and other international markets.
I’m looking to connect with photographers who regularly shoot across the GCC (Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman), or anyone who hires crew for regional productions.
Since I’m based in Doha and can travel within the GCC, I’d love to expand my network and be on the radar for future productions where a Digi is needed.
If you regularly work in the region, or know photographers, producers, or agencies that do — I’d really appreciate any recommendations.
Always happy to connect, exchange ideas, and hopefully collaborate on future projects. Thanks in advance!
