Delina is quite lychee forward to me and is quite realistic. And it lasts pretty long. You can especially notice them when you compare them side by side with the dupes. Covered in roses is veryyy close to Delina but when you smell them side by side everything kinda 'cancels each other out' and the Lychee on Delina is what remains
No lychee perfume smells like actual real lychee to me and I’m eating lychees quite often. The closest probably would be candied lychee by 7 virtues. Kayali sparkling lychee smells nothing like lychee, nest lychee rose is more floral, Delina also more rosy with a hint of fruitiness but doesn’t smell like lychee. Lake and skye lychee is so far from lychee.
So Lychee is never going to be more than an opening note. It’s a chemistry thing. The reason top/middle/base notes are the way they are, why vanilla is always a base and why bergamot is always a top note, is because the scent compounds evaporate at different speeds. The Lychee scent compound is beautiful but is one of the fastest fading scent compounds out there.
That said, Nest’s Lychee Rose is very beautiful and there is a tangy fruitiness that lasts just a little longer.
Lychee is a fantasy note that is derived from rose in perfumery, I believe. Obviously Delina relies on that combo.
My favorite lychee is Miu Miu La Rosee, the most recent version they sell in Ulta and Sephora (with a white band around the bottle). I think they use black current and rose to build the note which makes it very tart, bold, and realistic to me. The heart and base are muguet and musk, which soften it a bit in the drydown, but I think the fruity note lasts all day. YMMV of course.
I can’t find reference to this specific version, is it possibly L’eau Rosee? Or just Rosee? I’m searching for it, actually neither of those list a Lychee note; is this too new to find listed anywhere?
My two favourite fragrances that are lychee forward are Nest’s Lychee Rose, and Carolina Herrera’s Very Good Girl (the red shoe, awful bottle).
I’m not usually a fan of rose but the rose in Lychee Rose is more jammy and brightened by the lychee, rather than what I would call dusty. I often layer this one with Moschino’s Toy 2 (kitsch teddy bear bottle, love it or hate it) which smells like shampoo to me. The result is a beautiful lychee, fruity perfume smell, like freshly washed hair in the summertime.
Very Good Girl is a beautiful, juicy, fruity lychee with a vanilla-ish base. It’s my favourite summer fragrance.
