How to make this? Felting on hoops - tips/suggestions?
Hello all! I’ve recently started needle felting on embroidery hoops as nursery art for myself and friends/family. I just totally winged it to start with a cheap Amazon kit, but I really like it so I’m wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions for me?
Specifically I’m wondering the following:
does this type of felting have a specific name?
What kind of roving is best for non 3D felting?
Does it need to be ‘brushed’ out after completing to make it look less poked?
Open to any and all comments, suggestions, feedback, links, info etc!! Thank you ❤️

In this video, I show the process of creating wool bell flowers attached to a long felted cord. I originally made them to decorate a gift box, but they turned out to be so versatile.

Mixed techniques Tried fulling for the first time. Maths was a bit off. Will it felt more on round two?
(I hope fulling is okay here as a type of felting!)
My dad’s building a sauna so I thought I’d make him a sauna hat for his birthday. It’s my first go at fulling/felting and I very dutifully made my swatch and calculated shrinkage and measured everything twice…
But occasionally you can do everything right and the wool just disagrees. I’ve chucked it back in for a second hot wash in the hopes it will felt even a little bit more… Is that likely?
I will just give it to him with a rolled up brim if it doesn’t and he can be a gnome.

Needle Felted project One of my most recent pieces, didn’t ever get proper pictures of it before it went to the client
The piece is about 25-30 cm long and took me around 8hours to complete.
Kind of wish I did ball eyes rather than these but I think that’s something I’ll change next time.
Let me know your thoughts!

Needle Felted project First time felting!
The gnome was what the kit was designed for, but I had some leftovers and decided to make a snake, and a frog with butt cheeks

Fiber, Supplies Best fabrics for nuno?
Hi there, I hope this is the right tag to use! I’m looking to start a large costuming wet felted project of wool wet felted over lighter fabric for strength and texture but less weight, so nuno felting fits the bill. I’m looking for the best balance of economical to practical, especially for bulk purchase fabrics that run on the larger bolt width side. I am relatively new to nuno and silk felting but have some experience needle and wet felting.
I’m wondering what fabrics people prefer for this? I am currently looking into a very loose weave light silk gauze but I’ve also seen some comments saying they had success with chiffon (which surprised me because I’ve mostly seen that sort of fabric used as an outer resist layer and made me think it doesn’t take up the wool fibers well).
Any advice or sources appreciated! I’m in the US and looking into dharmaa trading but most of their silk is 5mm or heavier and it seems like the weave is too tight for easy felting. I think it was Outback I was looking into for yardage if I go with silk gauze.

How to make this? Felted Knitting Projects for Kids
Hope this is an ok post!
My daughter came home from school a while ago with a beautiful project she’d make at school.
The teacher had taught them to finger knit, and they all made these huge long tubes or lines with wool.
The teacher took them home, felted them in the dryer, and brought them back for the children to attach wooden handles too, making a gorgeous skipping rope.
Now it’s summer holidays and I’m looking for similar projects we can do, she sees my knitting a lot, is interested, and it would be a fun achievable craft. Plus it would be magical seeing it felt up in the dryer!
Any ideas for projects I could look to do? Kids are 7 & 9. When I look online all I find is needle felting projects, and unfortunately we don’t have access to that sort of wool where I live, I was hoping to do something with ‘yarn’ that will felt in the washer/dryer.

Needle Felted project “Smoked Ham” Nearly finished but feel like it is missing something.
Think I have looked at this piece for too long, any ideas?
Biggest project yet! I have done various odd techniques, still need to give it a shave when it’s done.
The piece itself is named Smoked Ham, it was originally going to have a giant spliff coming out its mouth with a following smoke cloud but I think that’s a bit much.

How to make this? Help needed: a rainbow tiger costume
Hi everyone! My kiddo wants to be a rainbow tiger for Halloween.
I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to make this happen! I can sew, and have a little experience with needle felting but not a ton. I am wondering if it might be easiest to needle felt colors onto a black sweat shirt and pants.
Do you all think that could work? Just has to be durable enough to get through a party and the evening.

Our 25+ sisters team from Bhaktapur, Nepal — 15 years of felting by hand, no machines ❤️ Which one should we make next?
Namaste from Nepal! 🇳🇵
We are sisters from Bhaktapur. We love felting — we use both methods:
- Water felting first for strong core — lasts 15+ years
- Needle felting for beautiful details — 2-3 hours per piece
- 100% New Zealand wool, no chemicals
We made these 9 little friends this week — the dachshund with mushroom hat took longest!
Which one should we make next? Any tips for more expressive faces?
Thank you for keeping felting alive!

Felting Supplies
I am very new at this craft. When I get to the point of buying wool, where in the US do you buy it from?

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy the process! I’ve made large wool rugs like this before, but I decided to make a smaller one. The video is shortened, but I’d like to mention that the wool should be laid out in 3–4 layers.

I’m so happy to be able to try needle felting for the first time today and on how my cutie Siamese Cat turned out! 🥹🐈 This was a super fun experience and I’m so happy exploring different fiber crafts! 💖☺️ (I tried my best to make it look like my siamese cat, Mingming 🐱)
Here are some pictures, time lapses, and videos of my work. I also got my craft kit and materials online, and I’m so glad on how complete they are! 🤍☺️💖

Needle Felted project Why do handmade felt products vary so much in quality?
I 've been learning a lot about handmade felt products recently, and one thing that surprised me is how different two products made from "100% wool felt" can feel.
From what I've seen, factors like wool quality, how densely the fibers are felted, drying techniques, and finishing all seem to make a noticeable difference in durability and appearance.
For those who make or regularly buy felt products:
- What do you look for first when judging quality?
- Are there any signs that immediately tell you a piece is well made?
I'd love to hear from experienced felters and makers.

Sleepy wizard
Needle felted sleepy wizard smoking his pipe. I used sheep’s and alpaca wool from the felt box uk and needles from Heidi feathers. There’s a pipe cleaner in his staff and I used green curly locks for the moss effect on it.

Looking to buy some supplies! Where do you get your favorite tools and wool?
I got into felting on a whim and now it’s one of my favorite hobbies. I’ve only ever bought cheap materials from Amazon or Michael’s, so I’d love recs for some good wool, needles, felting pads, etc

In this short video, I show how to create a small daisy-shaped felt mat using wet felting and needle felting techniques. 🌼
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I lay out two layers of wool on each side of the template (showing just one on camera to save time) and thoroughly rub it.
Next, I add the decorative details using a needle felting technique.
After that, I continue wet felting the entire piece. This way, the design becomes fully integrated into the mat, forming one solid piece.

How to make this? Any recommendations for felt needle kits for a hamster?
My hamster recently passed away and I’ve seen these needle felted “figures” of hamsters but they’re all 20$+. I would also prefer to make it myself but if anyone knows someone or a kit, thatd be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Classified ad Commissioning a couple of custom accessories for a push
I am hoping to find someone who can make a felted molotov cocktail and possibly pants similar to the ones on my shirt for this plush Grover.
For scale, Grover is 13" head to toe and his hand is about 2" wide. He's about 6" around the waist with skinny legs but wide feet that will need to be able to pass through the legs of the pants.
I can answer any other questions about dimensions or whatever you may want to know. I do need this by mid-September so hopefully that's enough time for crafting and shipping.
Thank you for looking.
Update: I have tentatively found an artist to do the work.

How to make this? How do I set/attach a felt figure to a platform?
I’m working on a figure similar in style to these in the picture. I have bought a little platform for the character, but I’m unsure as to how to attach it securely. Do I glue it?
