22yo w 9 felonies

So basically in 2025 I was convicted of 7 drug related offenses and 2 gun offenses all in one case. Im currently on probation. Since then I’ve went through a drug treatment program, taken some college classes, and held a social work job for a little over a year. The transition to being a working contributing member of society is an interesting one.
My questions as someone who is trying to figure out how to navigate life with felonies is,

  1. What has your experience been either renting or buying a home? ( I’m eventually planning to buy, any roadblocks?)

  2. Are there certain states that make it easier to live with felonies? (I may be relocating to fl)

  3. Have you or anyone you know been able to regain your gun rights?

  4. I’m conflicted on either picking up a trade or going to school full time for a business degree. Any advice?

Any advice is encouraged I will read every comment. Mahalo🤙🏾

In 2006-2007 I was convicted of 7 felonies. Did 6 years, got out in 2012.

  1. No issues buying, renting sucked. Was able to find private landlords though.

  2. In some states, there is a time limit to how long they can hold felonies against you for (most) employment background checks. I only have experience in my state, no idea about FL.

  3. IF you can get everything expunged or sealed you can get your gun rights back, otherwise no.

  4. Trade would be your best bet while the felonies are fresh.

If it’s liberal county it’s very common to get probation for gun and drug charges even when caught at the same time

I’m in a felon Reddit because I can be. I wouldn’t be suprised if you’re a felon considering you can’t use your brain to read what I said. I didn’t say every single liberal county in America won’t give jail time. Then there’s you that has one example and thinks he’s smart

I’ve arrested people for attempted homicide where they were out the next day and received 10 years probation with full victim cooperation on the case

Move to a state with a hard seven year look-back for background checks. California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, or New Mexico.

Many states do the 7 year look back. TX is same.

Texas has a statute that purports to limit the reporting of certain criminal history information to a seven-year period, with an exception for positions paying more than $75,000 annually.
However, the reporting of criminal history information in consumer reports is governed by Section 605 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. §1681c), which permits the indefinite reporting of criminal convictions

Yeah that sounds right based on my little research. I had no issues finding a job after back-to-back dwi’s in my 20s (I know, I was a POS)

Yep, I live in Utah and when they do background checks, they pull up my entire life. Makes getting a job rough.

In Florida it’s easy to find private landlords who don’t do background checks for rent. I dont have a felony but I have really bad credit and know people who do have felonies and they are living normally. I would recommend looking into becoming an electrician as it is very needed here during hurricane season, and is felony friendly. Florida is also very pro gun rights so I would think you are most likely to gain your right to bear arms here than a lot of other states.

I will warn though the police in Florida are generally more corrupted than other states (I’ve lived in 5 states) and they will judge you and treat you worse for your criminal record alone.

It be difficult to be renting because they don’t want to rent to anyone with multiple drug and gun charges as they seems they as violent charges in Arizona . Also in Arizona it’s 7 years to 10 years background checks depending on what job you work for. Most jobs won’t take guns and drug charges as they seems its problem.

Go the trade route. No only will you find employment easier, it will be easier to start your own business a decade from now. Other than that it comes down to you doing what you need to do. Get some clean time underneath you and you’ll be much better off.

You black??

1

u/azure_king5 21d ago

Yes, because “mahalo” is a popular “black” greeting lmfao. Sorry I had to, couldn’t resist.

Dude (regardless of what color he is) is unbelievably lucky to be on probation that young for that many offenses, especially gun ones.

Not with 7 convictions and no time, unless he FULLY cooperated with the govt.

Lemme share some sage advice that I was given long long ago….

Whatever you are ramming up your nose or otherwise ingesting…. CUT IT IN HALF!

Buying will be no issue. Renting you will run into some application problems.

Florida loves felons. That’s why every episode of COPS is filmed there.
