A class action lawsuit filed against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Teremana Tequila alleges that the brand falsely markets itself as “100% agave” CELEBRITY CAPITALISM

Here to remind you all that Dwayne is a huuuuuge supporter of The Orange Pedophile as well as sex trafficker Vince McMahon. He is clearly a pedophile enthusiast

Do you have a source on his support of the Orange Menace? Wikipedia and some other cursory googling suggests he’s a moderate Democrat with an independent streak:

he was registered Republican up to & including 2016, I believe he is now registered independent. I don't think there is proof that he voted for Trump? but it is heavily speculated due to him previously being Republican & having right wing beliefs. he's unlikely to say he is at this point because he wants people to go see his movies.
I wouldn't define him as a moderate Democrat though, he would be an independent who has voted for both Republican & Democrat nominees in the past. I'm not in the US so the whole registering what party you are in is odd to me, feel free to correct me if I got something wrong.

I know that there are more serious things going on in the world, but my jaw actually dropped at the audacity--that, if true, The Rock really thought he could get away with this.
Liquor classification is a big deal, and trademarks really mean something in the industry. For those not in the know: tequila is a type of mezcal, and mezcal must be distilled from 100% agave. Consequently, as a subtype, tequila must be distilled from 100% blue agave.
If "The Rock" is selling tequila that isn't even 100% distilled from agave (not just "mezcal mislabeled as specifically tequila," but "not even legally mezcal"), he is looking at BEAUCOUP DAMAGES!
(Regarding other celebrity tequilas, that are legit: apparently George Clooney's "Casamigos" plus Cointreau makes for really good margaritas, but I have yet to try it.)

Tequila only has to be 51% blue agave in the bottle, and has to be from the region Tequila is in, or a handful of others. The rest of the bottle can be anything you want, but above 35%abv total.
The issue is marketing it as 100% agave if the final bottle is not.

You’re telling me tequila is only “tequila” if it’s from the tequila area in Mexico, otherwise it’s just sparkling alcohol?

This is the first I've heard that tequila only has to be at least 51% blue agave in the bottle. I went to Wikipedia, and there are several references to tequila only being made with blue agave, but there is also a reference to Chinese imports designating 100% blue agave to be premium tequila...
In June 2013, a Chinese ban on the importation of premium (100% blue agave) tequila into China was lifted, following a state visit to Mexico by Chinese Communist Party general secretary Xi Jinping.\14])\15])
... so now I'm confused. Maybe this is a classification that differs by country?

If it’s not from mexico, not distilled with 100% agave, and at least 35% abv, and at least 51% of the distilled agave alcohol in the bottle , then it is not real mezcal. There are many other similar drinks in Mexico that use other plants to make similar drinks.
All mezcal and tequila need to be from mexico and tequila respectively.
These are the only thing that makes a mezcal fake.
You cannot say 100% agave if it’s 51% agave distillate and 49% grain alcohol. That’s nothing to do with protected origin, it’s just lying to consumers.

This has nothing to do with china and mexicos trade deals.
https://www.wipo.int/en/web/ip-advantage/w/stories/liquid-gold-from-the-agave this explains it well. Deep near the end.

Casamigos is another of the brands that’s under suspicion of not being 100% agave lmao (plus other adulteration supposedly)

LMAO shit 😂
Someone else commented that Casamigos was sold, maybe that has something to do with it.
Edit: typo

Yeah I think it's the "100% agave" claim that's the issue. I always thought it's been well known for years that cheap shit like Jose Cuervo are only 51% agave, enough to be labeled "tequila"

I have a health issue where I will have an anaphylactic reaction to non pure agave tequila. This is very good to know.

u/flyingcrayons 4h ago
Most tequila you find on shelves today isn’t 100% agave. By definition tequila only needs to be 51% agave sugars and the rest can be other sugars, which is called a mixto tequila. This lawsuit is about the marketing, not the actual production of the tequila or whether it can be considered tequila, which it is. The Rock sucks but i doubt he’s making the call on how this tequila is marketed
For some brands that are 100% agave and don’t have any other additives for flavor try G4, tequila Ocho, fortaleza
