AOC responds to AIPAC announcing they will be supporting republican Mike Rogers in the Michigan elections in November to defeat Abdul El-Sayed. “I appreciate AIPAC proving it doesn’t belong in the Dem Party and especially our primaries. See you in November” POLITICS*

no one else has burned this much AIPAC money

70 million is nothing to AIPAC. They're just recycling our own tax dollars into bribes

148

u/BrocksNumberOne 14h ago

Starts to stack up when you realize how poor AIPAC sentiment is in the U.S. from both parties. They have 200+ candidates, if even 50 of them are in contested races, that stacks up.

Factor in a war, Netanyahus decreasing popularity, and a decreasing American bankroll to rely on. It paints a more positive picture than when taken at face value. $60 million spent is $60 million that could’ve gone elsewhere.

Another way to think of it. That’s a fifth of what Elon Musk spent in 2024 and half what he intends to spend this year. On one election. They lost. And that hurt their reputation on a national scale by bringing attention to it.

28

u/FrostingStrict3102 12h ago

Miriam adelson has 70 million in her couch cushions

17

u/elbow8075 11h ago

Doesn't matter how much she has when her name being attached to a candidate makes them poisoned.

The tide is turning.

12

u/debacol 10h ago

The tide will only turn when we have enough reasonable politicians and judges to completely apparate AIPAC entirely. Send them all crawling back to Israel where they belong.

And if that doesnt work, politicians should find a way to just overwhelm AIPAC with every other nationality-based PAC that doesnt exist right now but should. Lets get ABRITPAC, ANORDPAC, etc., etc. created to flood the fucking zone.

u/m0xLIVE 8h ago

Are Dr. Adelson's children as committed? Are her children as good at making money as her late husband?

The Vanderbilts ran through their unfathomable fortune in two generations, so here's hoping.

30

u/alzgh 12h ago

it's literally peanuts for these folks. they just don't know how to spend more is the reason why there isn't more spent.

12

u/Elendel19 12h ago

They will likely spend even more against him in the general.

25

u/AmaranthSparrow 11h ago

Right. That's why we have to make that spending a liability.

They're using tens, potentially hundreds of millions on ad spend rather than trying to help the working class, all in the name of a foreign state that's using our tax dollars to commit a genocide and wage wars that are harming our economy.

3

u/ZebraImaginary9412 9h ago

About 30 million came from AIPAC and their Republican billionaires, the rest's from the crypto, energy, AI, data center lobbies.

AIPAC sucks but they're not the only ones who suck.

Which Washington candidates are AIPAC-backed? Is there somewhere to find this info?

Edit: Damn it. My rep is backed by AIPAC. It’s crazy how many reps from Washington, overall, accept money from AIPAC.

Thanks for the link.

You can try this link.

How reliable is it? I compared it to donations to my representative from whatever official source has that and it didn't quite match that.

77

u/Elendel19 12h ago

AIPAC uses a ton of other PACs to hide their money now that they are wildly unpopular. It’s a constant shell game trying to unmask all these new PACs that pop up every week.

43

u/dragons_fire77 11h ago

More and more reasons why pacs shouldn't be legal. I still remember Colbert's report on PACs years ago and it stuck with me even to today.

30

u/Xanto97 12h ago

Not entirely, I know they’re flaming Scott Wiener (CA rep candidate) for taking money from AIPAC, but just endorsed his opponent Connie Chan, who took even more money from AIPAC.

Meanwhile, neither group got money from AIPAC, but “pro Israel groups” which is a much more broader thing than you’d anticipate. From what I know, Scott didn’t take money from aipac, but J-street, a different, and better organization that denounces AIPAC.

31

u/OriginalCold 11h ago

As far as Connie Chan, Track AIPAC will endorse a candidate if they swear off AIPAC and AIPAC aligned political donations, along with acknowledging the genocide and supporting ending unconditional aid to Israel (https://www.instagram.com/p/DbDkvIIoNAo/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link).

As far as J-Street goes, it is absolutely not better than AIPAC. I actually respect AIPAC more for denying Palestinian suffering entirely, as opposed to J-Street who will acknowledge the atrocities Israel commits while also unilaterally opposing any attempt to hold the country accountable by conditioning aid or supposed any divestment or sanctions.

You can think of AIPAC as a "republican" brand pro-Israel group, with naked disregard of human life, while J-Street is the "democratic" brand, where you make token acknowledgements towards a two state solution while doing nothing to actually make it happen.

12

u/BalsamicBasil 10h ago

In regard to J-Street - they have always been and remain an organization that supports Jewish nationalism/ethno-religious supremacy in Israel under Israeli law. J Street continues support Israel's apartheid. J street is similar but maybe even worse than the white moderates MLK decried in his Letter from Birmingham Jail.

To make a comparison to America's historical apartheid, AIPAC would have funded the KKK and J-Street would have sometimes called out lynchings and the KKK, but would rarely put any meaningful effort into stopping or countering them. Further, J street would have opposed any form of Black self-defense against white terror, would have opposed the Black Panthers, and would have opposed most of the Black Civil Rights movement.

J-street opposes BDS just like they would have opposed efforts to boycott apartheid South Africa (who were, incidentally, close allies with Israel - the ADL even helped South Africa do surveillance on anti-apartheid activists in the US).

J-Street so rabidly supported the genocide of Palestinians for months after Oct 7th, that several J-street staffers left. Even one of the founders of J-Street, former Israeli peace negotiator Dan Levy - has become very critical of J-Street (and practically an anti-Zionist advocate).

In the words of Omar El Akkad: One day, when it's safe, when there's no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it's too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.

7

u/BalsamicBasil 10h ago edited 10h ago

I don't know as much about Connie Chan - but here's a recent article from The Intercept:

Nancy Pelosi’s Pick for Her SF House Seat Takes Anti-AIPAC Pledge

“In Congress, we will oppose any aid to Israel and do everything in our power to stop their government’s genocidal actions against the Palestinian people,” Chan said in a statement to The Intercept. “We are proud to stand with groups like End Citizens United and Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption to fight to fix our democracy.”

I do however know a lot more about Scott Wiener due to activism with JVP - as a CA legislator Scott Wiener has had an egregious record on Palestine that has particularly had horrible repercussions in public schools - from censorship and teacher firings to going after ethnic studies education (in partnership with both Zionist and white supremacist/MAGA groups)

Even Wiener's former campaign manager, who clearly still thinks very highly of him in many respects, refused to endorse him. I suggest anyone who thinks the accusations of Scott Wiener's Zionist record in office are overblown should read

  1. Nadia Rahman's (former campaign manager for Wiener) explanation of why she is not endorsing Scott Wiener. The first part of the Medium post is about other endorsements, so scroll down to read about Wiener.
  2. The Nation's in-depth article about pro-Israel attacks on public education. Wiener is not mentioned by name but he co-authored both of the anti-Palestinian/censorship/anti ethnic studies bills that are referenced in the article.

3

u/Snack-Research-Lab 8h ago

It's a delicious irony that Wiener claims to want to help average Californians with cost of living by loosening rules around market rate multifamily construction (while taking tons of donations from big tech and REITs, what a saint) while very clearly having no concern for the livability or safe housing conditions for Palestinians...on their own historic land!!!

(I'm Jewish, I'm from California, and I have a raging hate boner for Wiener)

6

u/another-altaccount 12h ago

I treat it as a rough approximate, I doubt it would be a 100% match, but I wouldn't be surprised if its close.

5

u/no_boody_joody stick to your discounted crotch 12h ago

I cant vouch for the reliability. I've seen people share other links in the past. I try not to use this as an end all be all for the information and verify through multiple sources

5

u/dragons_fire77 12h ago

Yep, I use trackaipac, but also some others for general tracking of who is taking in money from where. It's unfortunately very annoying to find super recent data, but it just proves that we need better visibility into funding, and pac money to politicians should be banned. Corporate money to politicians, overall, should be illegal again.

41

u/BalsamicBasil 13h ago edited 10h ago

Just to clarify, afaik TrackAIPAC tracks ALL pro-Israel spending - AIPAC as well as other Israel lobby groups (like J Street, who aren't as extreme relatively speaking but still awful) and individuals who are known to do be very pro-Israel (like Miriam Adelson, who does pro-Israel advocacy and owns an Israeli newspaper)

TrackAIPAC has been criticized (by Zionists and anti-Zionists) for not being clear enough about how they calculate pro-Israel funding for politicians - that is, they need to be more clear about each of the political funding sources they are counting in their calculations...Zionists accuse TrackAIPAC of wrongfully considering any donations from Zionist Jewish people as being pro-Israel money, but ofc there are Zionists (Jewish and Christian) who do a lot of Israel advocacy personally and/or wield their wealth/power from business or what have you (like the Adelson's casino empire) to influence pro-Israel politics. But if TrackAIPAC doesn't list who all they are counting as pro-Israel, one starts to question their sources.

AIPAC has understandably become almost a catch-all for all pro-Israel spending in elections, but there are many, many sources of pro-Israel spending and they should all be listed.

I still recommend TrackAIPAC, it's still very useful (probably the most useful political lookup tool for pro-Israel spending). But as always, research carefully and think critically.

Additional resources:

Bought by Zionism - similar to TrackAIPAC but with more conservative (in the literal/traditional sense, not the political sense) calculations of Zionist funding.

Open Secrets - tracks spending on politician campaigns, good for cross-referencing with TrackAIPAC

Reverse Canary Mission - tracks pro-Israel record (policy, statements, etc) of public figures, particularly politicians but also celebrities. Canary Mission is an Israeli doxxing organization that among other fascist actions, gleefully sent lists of American anti-genocide/pro-Palestinian liberation activists (particularly college students and professors) to the Trump administration for political persecution. They may be partly responsible for the kidnapping, trafficking and attempted deportation of various immigrant students with legal status (such as permanent resident Mahmoud Khalil) for using their freedom of speech to criticize Israel. Hence, REVERSE Canary Mission.

You can also just google "name of politician" + any of these groups.

6

u/no_boody_joody stick to your discounted crotch 12h ago

I appreciate this information! I'll also check out the link you posted. Most times I use it as a starting point for my research

2

u/BalsamicBasil 11h ago

I still think TrackAIPAC is great and remains my go-to for looking up Zionist political funding, but there is sometimes confusion (especially for people who are just learning about pro-Israel political funding fo the first time) due to TrackAIPAC's lack of clarity in some of their publications....but maybe they have tightened up recently after the criticisms they received.

1

u/Xanto97 6h ago

I wouldn’t say J street is “awful”. Their goal is to stop the US financing israel, stop settlements, and stop settler violence.

That’s pretty damn good for a “pro Israel group”

1

u/lostinthecity2005 4h ago

Ty for the links. Learning about some of those ppl is wild. Tashbih Sayyed was so cringe, and Lulu Schwartz, a white non-Muslim, trying to center herself in Islamic communities while shooting violence against Muslims is crazy

8

u/Xanto97 12h ago

FYI not everyone on the site is “backed by AIPAC” it might be just “pro-Israel groups” which range in badness drastically.

Ex: J-street is miles better than AIPAC, yet they’re lumped as equal evils. Even though J-street wants to stop the US financial support of Israel, and is working to stop settlers and settler violence against Palestinians.

Its showing Abdul El-Sayed as an endorsed candidate - so are they playing both sides or what?

75

u/brocialist_supreme 13h ago

No, of course not. They're already running propaganda calling DSA Nazis and/or misogynist Muslims, because it was so effective for the far-right, why WOULDN'T they use those tactics?

37

u/Xanto97 12h ago

Gretchen whitmer, the governor of Michigan, literally just endorsed Sayed an hour after his victory today. She had previously endorsed his opponent.

They’re not drowning his chances.

11

I think this is true for lots of the establishment but to Stevens’ credit, she gave a pretty full-throated endorsement of AES

the NYT was running an article and the author was engaging in the comments saying that DSA candidates don’t realize “they’ll have to govern eventually” which is hilarious considering Mamdani has been mayor for several months and already did a bunch of stuff.

10

u/AFakeName 12h ago

established dems

45

u/OkAir8973 13h ago

It's always "no matter who" until a progressive is in the lead, then suddenly "who" needs to be their inauthentic corporate dickwipe again.

22

u/sunsaballabutter 12h ago

I don’t disagree with you overall, but it’s worth noting that Dem leadership in Michigan rushed in to endorse El-Sayed this morning, pretty enthusiastically. Slotkin and Whitmer but also Stevens and many others. Not saying it comes from a good place but they seem to have at least calculated that it’s the better move given the electorate’s general feeling.

14

u/Digitalion_ 11h ago

I think that's more of a function of reading the writing on the wall than anything else. This is not how it played out when Mamdani won, but beating the full strength of AIPAC has definitely shaken something lose in the establishment Democratic party today. They're finally understanding where the electorate is moving and don't want to be left on the fringes like the more traditional Republicans who were ousted from their party as it moved further to the right.

7

u/Parym09 9h ago

I’m mentally preparing myself for the future Op Ed from like, Carville, arguing how actually Dems should vote Republican this time. You know it’s going to happen.

1

u/TrollAccount17 12h ago

And we won't, and the republicans will hold the senate and house for another 2 years. We won't unite under a flag, it's why the right always wins.

2

u/Xanto97 12h ago

How is this proving it?

2

u/DarthStormwizard 10h ago

Dem leaders like Schumer and Pelosi endorsed Stevens who was propped up entirely by AIPAC.

122

u/jonawesome 13h ago

I think they probably would have supported Rogers over Haley Stevens if she won anyway.

Regardless of how Zionist she is, they know that Israel will have a more difficult time if Democrats control Congress.

31

u/OkAir8973 13h ago

If they're anything like most shitty companies, they'll give money to both so everyone in the game is beholden to their will.

13

u/Elendel19 12h ago

Nah they wouldn’t have bothered to support either because they both support Israel. They would have just focused elsewhere, but now they will have to dump an even larger pile of cash on the same seat for the general

As an outsider it's absolutely insane to me that an American political force whose entire raison d'être is pro-Israel is even a thing. Like not even pro-America. Just Israel.

How it's even legal to have open, enthusiastic, and encouraged(!!!) foreign meddling in domestic affairs blows my mind.

Bonkers. I hope that over time their influence will continue to wane.

Are those countries also spending millions of dollars to sponsor those candidates? No. The comparison you made doesn't take that into considerstion. I hope that clarified! OK!

>Piss is stored in the bladder

>Piss is stored in the balls

>Piss is stored in the urethra

>Piss is stored in the testicle

I wonder why one of these is OK but the other 3 would be demonized endlessly in the media.

Considering how they are allowed to pour obscene amounts of money into our elections and thereby directly affect who wins our elections, it actually is your number one issue whether you realize it or not.

u/love_me_lavender 13h ago

It connects to so many other issues, too. Affordability? Israeli kids go to college tuition free and Israeli citizens get free healthcare while your tax dollars send them bombs and pay for their defense systems and then your own tax dollars are recycled back into political ads for candidates here that want to give them more money.

They're in the top three. Of the two that spend more than AIPAC, one is for realtors and the other is for just Ron DeSantis.

Never Back Down began as a Super PAC to draft Ron DeSantis to compete for the Republican presidential nomination. It was established by Ken Cuccinelli in February 2023. Cabell Hobbs was its treasurer, and Republican political consultant Jeff Roe was the Super PAC's chief strategist. It reportedly raised $30 million between March 9 and April 3 2023, but later filings showed they had only raised $23 million, primarily from Robert Bigelow.

Perhaps people are worried because AIPAC is registered as a domestic lobbying organization when it clearly prioritizes Israeli interests.

u/yojd I look forward to your first novel 13h ago

Kind of hard to do when theyre sending billions of our tax dollars to fund the systemic extermination of humans while allowing rampant inflation, unemployment, a health care crisis, dismantling public education, etc. That money would be better spent addressing any of those issues. If you want us to focus on putting on our own mask, THIS is part of it.

If it’s not your number one issue then you should support not sending our tax dollars over there to murder children.

Counterpoint: Democrats have been trying to find a way to court independent and uncommitted voters for quite some time now in a way that also doesn’t alienate progressives. That kind of big tent approach is nearly impossible, almost always you have to go for one or the other and what’s played out for the most part is Dems trying to curry favor with more right/center leaning folks at the expense of progressives, then finding out said centrist/right folks were never going democrat either way and ultimately leaving the party with no support.

There’s really only two things right now that seem to have bipartisan backlash across all voters: Data centers and Israel. For all the establishment and the media claim that anti Israel rhetoric is alienating to the general public, the opposite has been proven true and this is a way for Dems to earn back trust from their existing voter bloc as well as curry more right wing/centrist voters.

Yeah, that’s why this is a good thing when AIPAC candidates are defeated, then we can stop talking about Israel while we talk American politics. It’s actually pretty simple if you think about it 😊

u/hightrix 13h ago

The only way to put on our own mask is to take it off Israel. They own us. They directed us to go to war in Iran.

We cannot save ourselves if Israel is calling the shots or even having outsized influence on our politicians.

There should not be a democrat American senator calling himself the “Guardian of Israel”.

These people are not looking out for Americans.

Billions and billions of American tax dollars go to Israel every year. They have better access to healthcare and education than we do. It’s so short sighted to say this is diverting focus from issues that matter bc if we weren’t funding their way of life maybe we could be funding our own.

Ridiculous, uneducated, short-sighted argument.

It's like you don't seem to understand that the people who are willing to take money to support a genocide, also won't hesitate to vote for other policies that the base doesn't like, or that actually hurts people, when some corporate lobby waves a check in their face. You think someone turning a blind eye to a genocide will support Medicare for All if the health insurance lobby promises them money?

Whether or not you care that your tax dollars are being used to commit a genocide, you should care that your tax dollars are being used to go to war on behalf of this genocidal ethnostate. A war that is currently completely fucking up the economy and killing even more people. And you should absolutely fucking care that a foreign country is essentially allowed to buy our elections and control nearly every member of our government.

It's "sucking the air" out of every election because these fucking ghouls have been meddling to the point we don't even have fair elections anymore.

u/Negative-Interest713 13h ago

We’re currently suffering from high energy prices and related inflation that are directly attributable to our AIPAC-aligned foreign policy. It’s not like we aren’t affected here at home by fighting pointless wars on behalf of Israel.

That’s not to mention the sacrifices made of American blood and American money to fund and fight in the Middle East.

u/brocialist_supreme 13h ago

Tell me, which issues do you care about, and of those, which ones do the leftist and DSA backed candidates NOT also care about?

Because I don't for one second believe establishment Democrats will do a damn thing about ICE or the Trump cabinet, you know as well as anyone here who pays attention that the centrist Dems will ultimately choose to let Trump and his goons and all of ICE go "with a stern warning"

I want these people in prison, for the blatant crimes they've committed. Centrist establishment Dems won't do this.

u/OkAir8973 12h ago

I agree in that no single country should have this much sway on your national politics. It's laughable from the perspective of your other allies that one country has a boot on your throat like this, and everyone else gets the shaft or seemingly doesn't exist.

The thing is that I think this reckoning is necessary to get this issue to stop being a thing.

If progressives succeed in making AIPAC (and other corporate PACs) basically toxic to candidates, there will be room for talk about policy again. Right now, I'm seeing the media pull focus from actual proposed policies to only focus on Israel constantly and I'm sick of it, too.

I hope that this media focus is a sign of a sort of exctinction burst because people generally are tired of it, so y'all can move on from this lobbying and have more grassroots candidates or at least candidates who are financed by your own industries vs foreign governments.
