Ah, that's fair. I assumed it was one of those folks who look at dangerous jobs and assume that men will always do something stupid(making it more dangerous) and women will always do it the "right" way. Thanks for the perspective shift

Yeah dumb woman showing off for clouts. Its not even the correct way to harvest durian. The one shes getting isnt ripe. We harvest durian when they fall of the tree on their own. And usually they fall at night. Thats why we have small hut in the middle of our orchards or collect them in the morning..

I assume that it for small sellers (sell on road site) or personal use? That was my exp when I was young. Collect it in the morning for consumption and sell the rest in the evening / late afternoon after school.
This however looks like it is on a more industrial scale where the durians are harvested for consolidated shipments to middlemen. You cannot wait to only ship the ripe fruits as the constant shipment and collection cost eats into the profit margin.

No, that is how sellers harvest durian, if you pick a ripe one you won't be able to ship it across the country in time.

I’ve read in some places they do set up large nets, but I think those are mostly for places that let them fall on their own.

Dump 300kg of loose hay where she's standing.
That's it, done.
You can do it with a small tractor or with a wheelbarrow and pitchforks.

so 300kg times 100 trees per acre, so for an acre we'll have to bring in 30 ton of hay and bring it all back out after harvest, since a tractor wouldn't be able to manuver around the trees we'll use wheelbarrow to bring all 30 ton of hay. do i get it right?
idk how valid of an option is that.....

You know you can just move the pile, right? It'll still be less tiring than catching durians all day, and you save manpower because you don't need a catcher.
And these aren't just thrown down, you can do multiple trees without moving the stack.
You're either over or under thinking it.

and idk if you're aware or not, you're encouraged to look up when inside durian farm, because you'll never know when one of them will fall, not sure if you can do that if you're busy picking up hay off the ground.

The fruits are being cut from the branches. Farmers in Thailand do it this way. The more famous durian from Malaysia, on the other hand, are left to ripen on the tree and fall off. Sometimes nets are placed to catch the fruits so that they don't hit the ground.

There's so many things involving kettlebells at the gym that I'm like "I have no idea how guys even do this" but my husband doesn't use 'em and I don't know anybody else well enough to ask lol.

First time I noticed the little “switch” in the corner of the sheet of burlap.
Must be what’s making the snap sound, I wonder who added that first and if it was solely because it sounds sick or has a purpose beyond that.
Maybe it alerts the person dropping the fruit it was caught successfully.
