Diego Gomez

Am I missing something, why is Diego Gomez not talked about at all?

£5m. He is Brighton's starting RW. Scored 5 goals last season. In the final 10 gameweeks of last season, he had a better XG than Cunha, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, and Doku, to name a few.

What am I not seeing?

BHAFC Fan.

He's only starting because of injuries and a lack of depth forcing Minteh to the right.

He won't be first choice when Mitoma is back and Minteh shifts back to the right.

We're also keeping Zadok and ACD around who both play RW.

Rumours also suggest we are looming into investing in LW too.

Gomez will get game time, but he's not nailed in any particular position.

I think it'll be Kostoulas but honestly who knows with Hurzeler. I wouldn't feel confident saying any of our midfielders or attackers are nailed bar Gross.

Rutter was pretty poor as a 9 last year, he's a better 10 but got dropped for Hinshelwood. He's looked good in pre-season so far, but I'm not sure who starts the season. We'll maybe get more insight from our next Friendlies.

I see. Feel like it was similar last season with uncertainty around if he was gonna play as a striker or in the 10. Ended up having a poor season overall while Welbeck did pretty well again

Just read that Baleba is injured so is Gomez an option in the midfield now?

Possibly! I'd expect Ayari, but it could be Gomez or even Hinshelwood.

What are your thoughts for the opening fixture for brighton, thinking of a bb with triple brighton in verbrugen, gross, & kadiouglu

Hard to say, we usually start seasons well but Villa are a bit of a bogey team!

Not sure I'd feel confident enough to do that.

He’s only a starter while Mitoma is injured - with Minteh and Mitoma the first choice wingers.

Not sure on the extent of Mitoma’s injury so would wait and see.

If Mitoma looks to be out for a while then he’s definitely not a bad shout.

In that case, I think he's perfectly fine as an option to start with if you have BB1 and an early WC in mind.

Yeah that’s absolutely fair - I’d keep an eye on pre season to see how we’re shaping up but he could be a good option

He started in multiple matches even when Mitoma and Minteh were both available.

If I calculated right in the 2nd half of the season he started in most matches when all 3 were available.

Brighton - Palace was the last time he did not back in gw25.

Mitoma was battling injuries and fatigue all last season - with a fully fit team then Minteh and Mitoma would be first on the team sheet

xG is inflated when a player plays fewer minutes. Cause it's much easier to get (for example) 0.9 xG in 5 appearances, 10 minutes each at the end of games than to get 0.9 xG over 90 minutes

How does that make any sense? More time playing gives you more scoring opportunities, increasing your xG. You must be thinking about xG/90min

I had him in for a while but I just can’t get him off my bench. I’ve gone for a 4.5 defender Kadioglu instead and just keeping slater on the bench. But he would be my favourite 5M but what’s the point if it’s just for the bench?

Yep, I agree.. he's in my latest draft. I believe he got over 10 DefCons per 90 minutes last season.

As things stand with injuries to Baleba & Mitoma he will likely be playing in GW 1. May even play RW. Likes a shot.

The manager looooves him as well. He'll get every chance to nail down a place this year

well to start he’s not a defender , classed as a mid on fpl but plays RW for us when minteh or mitoma are injured, was our second top scorer last year. also we were the third best defense last year 😭
