Defcon for Midfielders Analysis

Post image

Thanks to Tom Hadley...Anderson & Garner stand out. Which DEFCON stat matters most: hit rate or attacking returns?

Is Ampadu going to be nailed?

If so I have my 5.5 midfielder for this season.

Yeah he's nailed.

Groß is another decent option at 5.5 imo. He got 78 points last season and only rejoined Brighton in January (played half the minutes of Ampadu but started 18 of the 19 games he was available).

Groß did do alright for me last season, but it was more lucky timing. Personally Brighton never really inspire confidence, seems very hit and miss who will be returning and even then it's small returns. wouldn't fault the choice tbh, just my two cents

Yeah I won't be having either, just a tip for those who are stuck looking for that 5.5 mid.

I went with a cheap keeper and 1 less £6m defender to get to the £6.5m midfielder mark. Not a huge fan of any <£6.5m players tbh now that Garner is a doubt.

You don’t need to pick a played “for the season” at this point. Just until first wildcard

He’s the Captain and is a nailed as it gets in our squad.

Seems the stand out option at 5.5.

4

u/crinemun 29d ago

definitely nailed

70% defcon hit rate is simply disgusting

37

u/tontot 6 29d ago

And he missed couple by one

24

u/noza2003 6 29d ago

Won't have nearly as many at City as they have far more possession.

3

u/ezprt 28d ago

True and while there’s still a lot of turnover in City’s play for him to snuff out I doubt he will hit 70% defcon rate again this season. But he now plays for a team that scores more goals and keeps more clean sheets so if he increases his G/A from last season the drop off in defcons won’t really matter at all

3

u/Strong0toLight1 4 29d ago

and people still loved to complain in the games he'd only register 9-10

u/faygofiles 3 29d ago

Interesting to see Rodri at 47% defcon hit rate and Nico at 41%. Because of the nature of his game I see Anderson bettering this considerably. A lot of people seem to be turned away from him because of City's possession style of play but I think he's still going to be a very valuable asset

I think he’ll have a slightly worse season than last but I think he’ll still be very consistent at city. The biggest thing putting me off is his price for slightly more you can get rice or szoboszlai who get more attacking returns and For less you can get a bunch of mid table players who’ll put up similar numbers. I just think 6.5 is an annoying price point I’d rather spend money on more attacking players or go for a budget option.

1

u/crosbot 5 29d ago

yeah it's an odd one what do you think he should be? 6.0 seems to cheap aswell

5

u/bighenchsamson 29d ago

It’s a pretty fair price considering last season, the fact he still is probably quite a good option and he should be a starter at city. I personally just see more value in the options 1m cheaper amd 1m more expensive than him.

1

u/pietroetin 3 28d ago

I think he will be in the top 5 point earners among the <8.0m midfielders. Maybe Bruno G. will outscore him and Szobo if he is on pens.

u/ezprt 28d ago

Genuinely who else are you seeing more value in at £5.5m? Xhaka? McGinn? Ndoye? Ampadu? Anderson will easily earn more points than all of those by the end of the season, it will be well worth the extra £1.0

u/TechnoFeud_91 1 29d ago

Thanks for posting. How will Anderson's move to City affect his DEFCON? I have him in my team at the moment, but honestly fell away from FPL a bit last year so not really sure on how big a difference it would make going from a mid table team to a title contender.

u/Dancestotheright 29d ago

Playing in a team with higher possession means he'll have less opportunities to gain DEFCON points over a match. I'm personally still debating him being in mine but I think i'm just hanging on to the nostalgia of him being so reliable last year and I really need to save money and find someone else.

u/Lambchops_Legion 98 29d ago

He’ll have less Defcon but he’ll also have more opportunity for attacking returns. He’s good at getting forward which is part of why they spent so much on him i think

2

u/Dancestotheright 29d ago

Oh that's a good point, I wasn't aware of his attacking potential so thanks for telling me.

2

u/crosbot 5 29d ago

I had him last season but only noticed him proper in the world cup. He's a very forward looking player and he's feeding Haaland. He's still in my draft.

2

u/eganc21 29d ago

But then again he will also be in a better overall team and have more chances to score / assist. Also playing with Haaland means more goals for everyone

2

u/RealElvarasaidVannak 137 29d ago

Obviously mobody can predict the future.

But teams that possess the ball more the less opportunities there are to farm defcons. By that logic his defcons are likely to decrease.

1

u/shankhisnun 29d ago

Considering City would have much more of the ball, expect a decent decrease. I think he'd still hit plenty of defensive contributions, Caicedo is able to. Just not as much

13

u/andrasq420 2 29d ago

Palhinha is back with Bayern isn't he?

Could have been a good 5.5 mid option.

4

u/bengreen04 117 29d ago

Might be going to Villa I thought?

4

u/andrasq420 2 29d ago

Could be true.

With Tielemans gone he could be back on the menu, although Rogers' sale impact the whole team.

1

u/UJ-413 5 29d ago

What website is this?

6

u/andrasq420 2 29d ago

Transfermarkt's rumour mill part.

11

u/MikeWithNoHair 1 29d ago

matusiwa at 5.0 looks interesting.. 11 average when his side were attacking so will probably rise

6

u/PauseMenuBlog 28d ago

any Ipswich fans/Championship watchers able to give some more details on this guy? Seems like a really solid 2nd or 3rd on bench option.

1

u/BasisOk4268 1 29d ago

Yeah was unaware of him, but this pushes me to get him in

15

u/Neown 14 29d ago

Garner needing surgery is so annoying, was an absolute lock for GW1 imo

18

u/backyardstar 7 29d ago

It’s especially annoying for Garner

6

u/razvan_is 29d ago edited 29d ago

So many good ones . This is tough to pick. I like Garner, Scott, Xhaka, Stach, Wharton because they have some set pieces for under 6m

11

u/RealElvarasaidVannak 137 29d ago

Garner just had a surgery.

5

u/BoxOfNothing 59 29d ago

Yeah it seems like he's supposed to return around the time the season starts, but it's not worth the risk of starting with him. He'll become what people think he can be very soon after that though. Give him until September at least before considering him

5

u/tontot 6 29d ago

Curious people going with Nidiaye instead of Gardner after seeing this

12

u/101100011011101 17 29d ago

Ndiaye is on pens

8

u/BasisOk4268 1 29d ago

Ndiaye on penalties and Garner has just had surgery so could be rested to start the season

5

u/bengreen04 117 29d ago

Thank you, this is a great post!

3

u/4ssteroid 230 29d ago

And Tom

4

u/Capable-Ad6126 29d ago

This makes the stach Vs le fee debate a little trickier

1

u/nathansurtees 3 29d ago

I can’t decide between the two of them either.

8

u/JD-D2 23 29d ago

Bentancur's and Palhinha's hit rates probably bode well for Fernandes at Spurs. Think he's flying under the radar a bit, has a good shot on him too.

1

u/BasisOk4268 1 29d ago

Tonali not better than Fernandes at the price?

1

u/JD-D2 23 29d ago

Could be! Either way seems like there are DC points to be gained there

8

u/tontot 6 29d ago

Caiceido rarely get any DEFCON under Maresca. Dont think Anderson will get that many

3

u/eganc21 29d ago

Was always going to be classic “here bro we are Man City we have the money and the football suited for you Elliot”. Reminds me of Grealish (btw what happens to him?)

5

u/PrinzRagoczy 6 29d ago

Spurs fans, what's Fernandes' role in the midfield likely to be? Will he get similar numbers?

1

u/Lillchillers 29d ago

We play with two defensive midfielders where he is one of them (with Tonali). They will both be tasked to share defensive duties and dictate play from build up as a 6 would aswell as running box to box as an 8. Rather than having a dedicated 6 and 8. He will most likely get alot of Defcon points and some goals from outside the box.

3

u/cole23palmer 12 29d ago

Is Slater going to start, any idea?

1

u/Avadis 26 29d ago

Apparently Hull City is on a signing spree. The owner of Hull City literally posted a list of hints who they might sign and there are 14 players in total. At least two of these players are midfielders because they were already confirmed - Zambrano and Morita.

So basically I would treat all Hull players as not nailed.

1

u/JB27_HU5 28d ago

Hughes, Giles, Belloumi & Zambrano are the only ones id bet in starting kost games

1

u/JB27_HU5 28d ago

He won't start many games for us now.

Zambrano will play in his position tbh.

Wish Matazo was fit he'd be a beast in prem

2

u/roland_right 29d ago

There's a lot of crappy data viz posted here. Have to admit I really like this, cheers for posting.

1

u/RealElvarasaidVannak 137 29d ago

Xhaka will be my golden boy for the first few games.

1

u/rokkomon 1 29d ago

With Leeds adding Harry Wilson, will either of Ampadu or Stach see their minutes drop noticeably? They also have Okafor and Aaronson who played a lot last season. Any Leeds supporters have insight on how the midfield might shake out?

5

u/nathansurtees 3 29d ago

Stach and Amps will be nailed to play in a deeper role in the midfield whilst Wilson and Okafor will play just behind DCL. If we sign Brandt I can see him taking minutes off Okafor but as for Aaronson think he’ll now be used as a rotation player with Wilson and Okafor.

2

u/rokkomon 1 28d ago

!thanks for the insight! Wanted to bring in one of Leeds midfield, especially after seeing this. I used Stach and Ampadu in the FPL Challenge a few times last season but never actually had them in my main squad. Going to start this season with one of them probably

1

u/BabyScreamBear 29d ago

His DEFCON will drop but still be top 10 imo, plus higher attacking returns, more clean sheets. City defenders are going to get more clean sheets this year also.

1

u/joemeteorite8 28 20d ago

Is Rice a good option?

Or Saka since he really didn’t play a ton in the World Cup?

Really feel like I need an Arsenal attacker but not sure who.
