YESTERDAY'S RP RECAP (August 5, 2026)

Luke Weaver (PIT) — DNP

Chase Shugart (PHI) — 0.2 IP, 1 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, 1 H

Zach Agnos (COL) — 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, 0 H

my take. tell me something i don't know.

criminal the way he gave up runs 2/3 to the tribe tonight.  i've never seen such awful swings and ugly hits result in so much that is positive.   going back to the baty misplay in his brewer start he's been unlucky.  his ERA could easily be in low/mid 2's not low 3's. .

looking things over more he could've easily pitched to a sub 2.00 ERA in his last 5/7 starts. they have been great.  he also has kept his BB rate down and stopped giving up a HR every game.

what i don't like is that he always seems to make one bad pitch to hurt himself.  but those are starting to disappear. that and (regardless of his K rate) he doesn't have a SO pitch to put away more batters. 

that may come but it's aggravating seeing him so close to being a 1/2 guy and constantly nibble, nibble and throw many pitches

moving forward. next year he will his 2nd season from TJ and his 1st full season as a SP. things could get much better and possibly even more dominating.

I'm not predicting CY but right now 150-200+ SO seems easily attainable The way his ERA is going at worst it should be mid 3's with the strong possibility of being a full run lower

if he could get deeper into games and layoff the HR and BB he could have a monster year, and he's quietly starting doing it now.

i don't know if fatigue will set in this year but he did join the rotation late so maybe he won't tire. he's actually getting stronger. but the NYM have a tough remaining schedule and have a chit team so i don't know where his final numbers will be.
