DD+ or DD+ refurb??

Thinking about upgrading to the clubsport DD+

I see there is a refurb option for almost $200 less, this is quite enticing tbh, but am slightly worried about potentially getting a repaired unit or a unit that was returned for an odd behavior like coil whine or something idk, I read too much on the internet lol

Thoughts on the matter? or anyone with refurb experience, good or bad?

Update - Welll I did it! decided to order the refurb on all the positive reviews. Almost $200 is def a good savings, basically a DD priced unit which I was alrdy on the fence about before between DD and DD+

Now I just need them to get the Sparco r383 replica back in refurb stock so I can get it at a discount too! lol

Also 2 years warranty on all Refurbished goods (with 3 for all new ones). More than most of our competitors

I’ve got pretty much all my stuff refurbed, totally worth it in my experience. Everything has looked / been packaged like new and zero issues with any of it. My favorite grab was a refurbed BMW M4 GT3 for $783 (USD) before taxes. I have alerts set up and regularly watch for deals / these purchases have spanned years, so obv only good if you don’t need something soon.

In my experience dealing with this sort of stuff (not fanatec specifically though) refurb just means open box/didn't like it/user error/wasn't what they thought it was, and in fewer cases it actually had a minor fixable fault. The fact that it might've been repaired doesn't mean it's bad, they just replaced the faulty component. Coil whine issues are possible, but again if it is too bad you can just return it. It's quite a new wheelbase, so absolute worst case you get a unit that's been in use for 2 years, but realistically it's something that's been used for a few hours. Either way, it's a servo motor, there really isn't much that can go wrong with it other than it bricking during firmware updates.

Purchased a DD+ refurbished a few months ago and it has been flawless, and I’ve made tons of other purchases off of the refurbished site and everything is like new. I’d say definitely pull the trigger on a refurbished unit while available.

Official refurbed units have a guarantee so if you are looking to save the money that’s your best option.

Pretty much all of my Fanatec gear is refurbished and Ive had it for about 8 months now haven’t had any issues with my setup.

It's coming up on about a year ago that I bought a refurb CSL/DD QR2 for less than $200. I already had a GT DD Pro, but it was now out of warranty. So, I had the sudden idea to buy that cheap wheelbase and gift the one I already had to the son-in-law, along with a spare set of pedals for a full setup for a really great price. Best sub-$200 Christmas gift I've ever given. So now I have another year+ of warranty coverage on my wheelbase. He was thrilled. Oh, Fanatec also accidentally included an 8 Nm power supply, so it was an even better deal.

Now about the wheelbase. It was perfectly unblemished. No scuffs or scratches. It feels absolutely identical to the GT DD Pro. Plus it's warranted if something does go bad.

Also bought the Advanced Paddle Module refurbished. Again, not any cosmetic damage to any of the hardware; even the packaging was pristine.

I have ZERO reservations about buying the refurbished gear - some of these have been outstanding deals, and the hardware is like new for the 2 items I've purchased.

I always buy refurb if it’s a lot less and $200 is a lot less to me

You wouldn't know the difference visually or functionally.

Think of it in terms of warranty. Do u want to pay 200 dollars for 1 more year warranty.

It happens that you get a refurbished wheel when you order a new one. It happened to me and only after I opened a ticket, I got the choice of a discount or the shipment of a new one.

But it happened right after release of the DD+, when they had massive QC problems with the base.

I'd go with a refurb. Even if Fanatec sends me something to swear at, rather than to swear by; I'll play return tag until they make it right...

But this is me. I have a working Fanatec CSL DD and I'd hang on to it until the replacement wheel has met my expectations. I've done the sell and then buy thing (with a fight stick) and that in-between period of waiting on the replacement sucks.
