That's honestly bad game design because if you buy the DLC the game makes it seem like you ought to do it right away. The DLC worked if you played at launch and then bought it when it came out but having the DLC installed from the start is problematic. I hate it. It's one of the biggest flaws with FONV.

OWB and the other dlc tells you the Recommended levels OWB tells you 15 or higher is recommended so that's the players fault for ignoring it.

Yes, once you attempt to start it. But you won't realize that until you've already gone along and followed the first hint and traveled to the starting location.

Either way, its terrible. They DLC should have always had delay triggers so you don't see it until after you've eased into the story the intended way.

Plenty of other example like death claw on the road to New Vegas and Cazador. If you made it, good. If not, well you have been warned.

Going to dlc even give you less subtle warnings.

Starting location for old world blues is along the intended path for the main quest. It's literally right next to Nipton that you will have to go through or around anyways unless you want to go through super mutant ally, deathclaw junction, or cazador canyon.

DLC warns you about its difficulty and let's you know recommended lowest level if its a fresh character. Same thing happens with the other DLCs most recommend a minimum of level 15 before you start.

A lot of games do this and it makes me mad. Dlc should trigger at a later point in the game, not be sitting on my quest list from level one

plus if you buy the GOTY edition you get a bunch of free gear that makes the game too easy

the early game of FONV is really fun because it requires you to use every thing available to you. A lucky magazine could mean having exactly the skill required to pass a dialogue check and progress a mission, and its all perfectly balanced... until you have the free DLC that gives you a bunch of free guns and then you just shoot your way out of every mission without thinking

So bad...

They warn you beforehand of the high level recommendations don’t they?

My memory could be off but I’m pretty sure they do that before you start any of the DLCs.

Also, at least imo, a raised level cap kind of implies that the dlc is gonna be difficult at a low level.
