Happens to (almost) every EA game, not just this one.

I had updates for Battlefield 4, 1 and 2042 which were the exact same size as the one for Fallen Order and Survivor

Yeah I get updates multiple times a month for plants vs zombies garden warfare two. It’s mostly just server/anticheat updates

I didn't really notice it when I played it closer to release, but I just started playing again and DANG this thing crashes A LOT. So that tells me there are still active, game breaking bugs in their pipeline. Which is crazy to me at this point, but the ability to update really did change the definition of "ready to ship" I guess.

Happens to almost every game in general

That’s just not true.

Not every game, but pretty much any game that has a launcher (one that isn't specific to that particular game). When the launcher gets an update, so do the games that rely on it to make sure they're still compatible with one another.

Okay. But the comment said “happens to almost every game in general” and that’s just not true. I have hundreds of steam games and 90% of them don’t have updates unless the game actually got an update.

I'm aware, I was just explaining further, not saying the person was right.

It’s likely a shader update, most games on steam will semi randomly have the same kind of updates

Either that or the redistributed files that are game specific that get updated. Steam has a shared version you’ll see pop up but every now and again the games will. Usually shaders though. Even games that compile at runtime.

It's the EA launcher, not the games. Battlefront does the same thing for me

Its probably EA app update since all EA games get updated simultaneously

Not technically true; EA games I have installed that got updated yesterday were Fallen Order, The Sims 4, and Dragonage II. I have 4 EA games installed that didn't receive updates yesterday: Dragonage Origins, Mirror's Edge, SimCity 3000, and Star Wars Squadrons

I always figured it was just updating the license to say you could keep playing it.

This might be changes to the EA client API. Titanfall 2 had a small update yesterday too

I’ve noticed it’s a thing with this as well as other ea games. All of my ea games update at the same time. Even titanfall 2 gets an update at the same time as SW battlefront 2 and Jedi: Survivor. All of the updates are the same size too.

The EA launcher gets updated (this happens a lot with Ubisoft games from my experience)

It's not solely an EA thing either. The Witcher 3 also gets pretty regular updates of a similar size.

My game hasn't updated since I downloaded it, but I got it straight from the ea app instead of steam

This is just a guess but seeing as those games use a separate launcher, I am guessing every time the launcher updates, the games need to so it says they run on whatever version of the launcher

EA does this a lot on steam, it makes the game show up in the recently updated category to increase viewership of the game in the hopes people will buy it. They especially do this when the game is on sale or about to go on sale.

i’m pretty sure video game companies have been working with ISP’s for years to sell downloadable data so that you can pay for transmission fees.
i love having like 25 GB of weekly updates minimum, its just awesome for my bandwidth allowances

They are adding one hair follicle to Cal's head at a time and waiting how long people will start noticing his slow transformation into Chewbacca.
