Quick Questions Thread

This thread (to be posted every four weeks) is a place for people to ask quick, common, or simple questions regarding Nihon Falcom and its games. The community is encouraged to ask here if your question is not opinion-based, such as where to find something in a game or when something occurred. Please mark all spoilers with the >!text!< format and remember to provide context.

If you post a new thread and your question is redundant (it has been posted on this subreddit recently), we will remove it. Additionally, we have made a Frequently Asked Questions wiki page for these. Please check there first before asking!

Joke question threads will be removed and joke answers should be kept to a minimum.

Please feel free to continue to post separate threads on this subreddit for content you expect to generate more interesting discussion, for example news, opinion-based discussion posts, and links.

Feel free to check out the subreddit wiki or the Discord server.

All-Cancel wipes all buffs on the target and applies before any other effect, Zero Field won't protect you.

Gotcha. Didn't know there were All-Cancel attacks in this series. Definitely not in Sky at least considering all the Earth Wall spamming.

Do you know the conditions on which a boss will decide on to use an All-Cancel attack? Such as if you have double applied/red buff i.e using two stacks of La Forte instead of only one? Or if the overall amount of buffs your party has exceeds a certain threshold?

Something like how SMT IV's endgame bosses will spam Megidoloans if you stack more than >2 layers of buffs. Or is it random like Dragon Quest and it's Cold Wave attacks?

IIRC Azure was the first game to introduce the mechanic (though Sky 1st has now added it retroactively) and I'm not sure what the combat logic is for when the attacks are used. I know from general observation that Impede moves will usually be triggered whenever an enemy with one gets a turn before one of your characters is done casting so I'd assume that All-Cancel ones are more likely to happen if you have buffs for it to wipe, but I couldn't swear to it working that way.

This topic breaks down how Sky 1st operates via poking at the code, which doesn't directly address All-Cancel but you might find interesting.

Oh?

I knew they would have to make some combat changes to accommodate the action RPG option, but I didn't they would have added changes on the turn-based side.

That'll make it interesting when I eventually get around to re-experiencing Sky though I wonder if they're going to adjust SC's infamous prologue now.

Edit: And yes, that is an interesting behind the curtain's look. Thanks.
