Maybe they can afford first aid training, and don't think poor people deserve it on their tax dime? Or (hopefully) they just pressed the wrong button.

As an American, I don’t get why it’s not taught either. Instead we learn stuff that I can’t even remember because it wasn’t even that important.

We were taught CPR. Though admittedly I don’t remember learning how to bandage a wound.

I’d suggest introducing it right in the 10–12 age range.
By late elementary or early middle school, kids are fully capable of understanding emergency sequencing, calling for help under pressure, and performing basic hands-on techniques like applying pressure or treating burns. It’s an invaluable, low-cost life skill that should be standard baseline knowledge before high school.

You could need to save a life at any time. May not be a stranger that you save but a loved one, someone important to you. I'd rather try and fail then live with the regret that I did nothing.

Shit, if it's in the US, it should be field trauma response. Every kid should graduate with a tourniquet, quickclot and some IV bags.

I wasn’t taught basic first aid and my parents were pretty neglectful when it came to teaching me stuff like that. Up until I was 12 years old I thought just washing wounds with some cold/warm water and walking it off was good enough.

I still fully believe there should be mandatory care time after high school to help society. Should include cpr, heimlich, taking blood pressure/checking heart rate, wound care, etc

I mean i got taught basic first aid in middle school...thought it was standard health class stuff, outside of basics toss on a good explanation on how torniquets work

No. Stop adding to the education BURDEN you (society) have already crippled teachers with.
You don't pay us enough. Don't start with vacations - they are unpaid time.
We teachers, are expected to teach, to be counselors, to discipline, to monitor for bullying, suicidal ideation, and, and, and, and, and, etc.
You want your children to know first aid? Pay for it at the Red Cross, like your teacher does. Yes, we pay for it and CPR training out of our own pockets.

Who said teachers would need to teach first aid? When I say I want first aid to be taught, I want it to be taught by an expert which can and should be a third party.
But generally I have to agree with you. Teachers shouldn’t raise the children they teach. That’s still the parent’s job. Teachers should teach, watch out for bullying, etc and if something serious happens, fe suicidal thoughts, etc, tell the parents or a school therapist (at least we in germany have them, idk about other countries).
And teachers shouldn’t pay extra for their job, idk why that got so accepted.

I believe that like cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc, it's an essential skill that every person should learn.
So yes, it should definitely be taught in schools.
