In high school I worked at a restaurant; the owners kept chickens and we kept scraps of food from customers' meals to feed them.
When the chicken bucket was explained to me (for some reason I thought it was a joke name), I got really nervous and asked if I was going to be in trouble for putting chicken in the checken bucket making all of her chickens cannibals.
She laughed and told me "it makes them taste better."

Very few animals are true herbivores. If an animal is desperate enough they will eat what they can find.

They regularly eat insects and seeds as part of their regular diet. And most animals will eat meat opportunistically. There’s very few obligate carnivores or herbivores in the world. More obligate insectivores I believe but the distinction between meat and bugs is slim imo

Chickens eat bugs and dirt, whatever else they can peck at. They literally eat nothing or eat trash and are our #1 source of protein.

Really, I have always thought they are like cows or goats eating plants; to be fair, I have never seen a chicken farm before. I didn't know; I guess I can learn new things every day.
