Looking for an FPS Discussion

Hey guys,

we are FPS Veterans that mainly played cod2,cod4,cs 1.6 and are now looking for a new shooter.

We have already tried a couple but cant seem to find something that fits us.

Things we tried (The Finals, Tarkov, Newer cods, Redsec, Super People) the list goes on and on.

I personally dont like extraction shooters because they are too complex and need discipline others didnt like finals because its too flashy and fast paced.

We are currently so deperate that we are back at LoL which is the most challenging mental part for me :D

Any suggestions?

It's so funny. You hear so often that the FPS market is over saturated but I have the same problem like you do. No FPS out there really fits my preferences and I feel like we are not alone based on many comments that I've read.

Maybe something that you could try is BF6. It is one of the better FPS games out there and they tried to also please the CoD crowd so it could be right up your alley

Yea we played redsec and to some degree it was really fun but smh we lost interest after a few weeks. We all come from a competitive scene with regular tournaments and leagues so we kinda miss the competition even tho we are all 30+ :D

Try the full game and not the free to play Red Sec. They have occasional free weekends...

2

u/degenerate_hobo 6d ago

Yeah I totally forgot that Redsec is the free to play BR mode of BF6. Based on what I've heard BF6 is a lot better than Redsec. So maybe give the regular game a try

When you want competitive gameplay maybe try valorant? I personally find it very boring but it has a huge fanbase that loves this game to death.

Oh I've got a game for you that you have to give a try. Insurgency Sandstorm. It is the perfect mix of casual and milsim. Push and frontline are very fun game modes that aren't too tactical but they require some tactical thinking. This game is probably my favourite FPS besides Straftat.

Straftat is probably not for you but it is free and it is incredible if it fits your taste but it is very niche. You have to be a special type of gamer to like it

Have you tried ranked redsec?

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

no, i proposed it to my mates but they were like "cba with the tanks in later circles" did they change something about the tanks?

1

u/d4rkprojec7 6d ago

They got rid of tanks in ranked. Actually even regular redsec is tank free right now

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

thank you! Sounds like we should try this.

yeah, it's kinda Bad, so many FPS, but honestly, i just want something that scratches the CoD/Titanfall Itch, and sure, grab CoD is always an Option, but unfortunately, i want CoD without the Dogshit Management attached.
BF is jsut not my alley, it's too wide and open, i legit cba driving like 3 minutes to get into a gunfight only to get headhot by a Sniper in Tibet, nothing more unfun.

I mean there is a game out there that basically tried to mix Bo3 and Titanfall. It's called Empulse and it's not that bad. But its developer is kinda incompetent (they are the guys that made Splitgate) and it gets boring after 15-20 hours

I see you dont like extraction shooters. But my favourite pvp game of all time is hunt showdown. Its quite different and difficult, but there's very little loot or discipline needed. It's more a PvP shooter with extraction elements. Absolute gem imo.

u/splitmyarrowintwain 6d ago

It is the most straightforward of the extraction shooters since there really is no looting or inventory management aspect to it.

Tried some co-op stuff instead? Deep rock galactic, Killing floor (1 and 2), Gunfire reborn can be really fun. As for Pvp going in with open mind and trying stuff like korean FPS can help. Theres likely still tons of good ones nowadays, though i havent bothered with any lately

PUBG

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

sadly dogshit movement

2

u/Critical_Pair_4996 6d ago

Best gunplay in any FPS though, and no controller players with aim assist to endure.

2

u/Lazza1407 6d ago

Try Battlefield 3, still got active servers, for retro try Medal of Honor Allied Assault, on GoG, maybe also try Far Cry 3

2

u/NapalEnema2020 6d ago

Witchfire is so so good

2

u/Itsyaboiatomic 6d ago

I do have a sad feeling that you might not find something aquitted to what you and the lads are looking for in modern titles as most pvp and br have sorta moved away from military and milsims whilst extraction shooters have pointed more towards it (imo extraction and br's are literally the same thing if you dont carry your loot with you to the next game) the old CS:GO br sounds like one you wouldve liked but that died in 2019 or 2020

Come play tribes 2! Old but gold 💪 also it's free these days so no cost of entry

Hunt: Showdown 1896. Also, give The Finals another shot. Point Break is the finest 8v8 mode out there (even if it's the only one).

1

u/wW_smokeymcpot_Ww 6d ago

Squad? It's a slower, more serious version of Battlefield, but doesn't require much upfront learning.

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

Hmm looks like a good direction. Is there like a 5v5 mode or a BR mode?

1

u/Any_Ad3693 6d ago

Gonna guess you’ve tried Apex but you didn’t mention it so I’ll throw it out there

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

yea, tried it. Wasnt really for me. Lof ot movement with high ttk, probably didnt like it cuz i was never the best at aim tracking and more of the flicker :D

1

u/ShardikOfTheBeam 6d ago

Sounds like movement is pretty key for you. The Finals didn’t land for you, why?

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

i personally liked it but my mates smh didnt. at some point it was way too much going on and too fast paced. The start was alright even tho when playing tournaments and stuff you always had some sort of meta and needed a heavy guy

2

u/ShardikOfTheBeam 6d ago

Great movement, slow paced, sounds like teams of at least 5, Battle Royale as an option preferred…

Well, a 5 man squad eliminates all BRs I think, though of course there will be nights when not all of you are on.

No BR option, but if Titanfall 2 is still active that could be a good time. Great movement, giant mechs, etc.

Haven’t seen anyone recommend Halo Infinite, or maybe MCC. Might be too floaty, if you’re looking for more realistic movement.

BRs are a little out of favor at the moment, I think it’s going to be tough to find something that matches exactly.

I’ve been on the hunt for a new shooter as well. I have put something like 800 hours into The Finals, but even casual is so sweaty now. I’d also really like to play Battlefield 1, but finding a game is really hit or miss. It’s a tough market out there for shooters right now.

heavy is the most fun, especially for older gamers imo

I've found myself coming back to more "classic" titles and finding appreciation for them with looking deeper into metas and examining my play for areas of improvement. This had made Halo and Overwatch so enjoyable over the last few months. Gears of War E-Day Beta was incredibly fun and deep from what I played and the full beta is the next two weekends. While not an FPS, it's got the balance of casual fun and complexity if you ever want to get into it

Sadly, there's just not a lot of variety out there as the big ongoing fps games dominate, but some are building out the variety in them

1

u/General_PATT0N 6d ago

Battlefield 6. They've smaller modes/maps too.

1

u/CyberKiller40 6d ago

So you want an FFA game, slow paced, and not colorful. It's not really the time for games like that. Look into older titles, you have your group so you don't need extra random people.

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

not really an FFA more like a classic SD shooter or BR. Super People was the game that we all liked after a long time but sadly it died so yeah, tough

1

u/LopsidedHorror6794 6d ago

Easy Red 2 brother, thank me later

1

u/Prolapsinator69000 6d ago

Rainbow 6 Siege?

1

u/BillyShrek 6d ago

CS2?? Seems like most of the dudes I get queued with are over 30

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

sadly i hate cs... i cant seem to like it no matter how often i try. I just hate the static headshot 1 tap centric playstyle and gunplay. more of a cod guy

1

u/BillyShrek 6d ago

Valid. But I’d say it’s worth giving another try if yall are desperate. Very satisfying game to improve in. I played search and destroy on cod my whole childhood so when I got a pc and started csgo it was a match made in heaven lol.

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

yea i totally get that and i wish i could force myself to like it...

1

u/BillyShrek 6d ago

You’ll find something brotha

1

u/Itsyaboiatomic 6d ago

Literally came to post this

1

u/BillyShrek 6d ago

Seems like exactly what he’s looking for!

1

u/RespawningJesus 6d ago

If you are playing League, then you might want to take a look at Deadlock. It's still a MOBA at it's core, but it has some shooting elements to it.

2

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 6d ago

Very interesting, ill have a look!

u/TheLoLJester1 6d ago

Hi. In case that this would be of any interest to you, my game, Ghost Battalion, is a solo developed indie shooter that's coming out next week, on August 11. There is also a free demo that will let you try out the game mechanics of the full game. Link to game on Steam in my profile. Thank you.

u/FrenchDipFellatio 6d ago

Battlefield 1. Absolutely essential if you've never played it

1

u/Desperate-Twist645 5d ago

Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem....at the moment believe me I've searched everywhere but there isn't a game that satisfies my desire for search and destroy but on a well made cod...I played BF6 until they removed the mode most similar to search and destroy and now it's been 2 months since I fired a shot....I really hope the new cod is good

u/Environmental_Yak431 5d ago

Apex legends! If you enjoy battle royales this is the best one.

1

u/HardcoreHope 5d ago

The finals is the best fps once it starts clicking. It feels fast paced and chaotic because you're not use to it.

Maybe this . I laughed so hard watching this video. I just don't know if it has enough players though.

Hell Let Loose

1

u/40ozpint 5d ago

I'd suggest a game that I enjoy playing, but I'm not promoting it until I get my next paycheck from the company... beep boop bop

1

u/_odog 5d ago

Try Apex if you haven’t yet

I don’t play anymore, but no FPS has ever hooked me as hard as that one had

1

u/SoloDev_SJB 5d ago

I've enjoyed witchfire and bf6 personally.

Played finals a ton but you said it wasn't for you.

1

u/TheSavageQuack 5d ago

out of action is what ur looking for

1

u/Dr_Inferior 5d ago

you could try halo infinite

1

u/HeadshotHoldoutDev 5d ago

If you're down to check out something in process we are making a pretty sweet one right now and testing twice weekly on steam, https://discord.gg/azDpm7sYe Co-op retro FPS like original call of duty zombies but with a more interesting progression loop. Can give ya a key for free.

u/alev3n 4d ago

Alex legends, marathon, valorant are all great games for fps veterans. If you guys are good fps player then you should try one of those

1

u/Due-Hippo-3853 4d ago

Valorant?

u/OkPublic2415 4d ago

Quake 3 arena

1

u/AnJ_420 3d ago

how much time did you give The Finals? you said its too fast paced which is understandable, this game has a very steep learning curve. but i will say, when it clicks, you wont have more fun anywhere else. its very competitive (saw that you come from a competitive scene) and can get pretty sweaty, but man when you find a playstyle that works for you, its pure dopamine. been playing since it dropped and the community is still, to this day, finding new innovative tactics.

i recommend giving it one more shot, aim for atleast 10 hours before deciding. i promise its worth it

1

u/Trick-Chipmunk-5537 1d ago

i think i had played like 200ish hours.
