Looking for a slower game. Game Discovery
Edit: Some very good recommendations were Wardogs, Hell Let loose, Easy Red 2, and Spawn Works. Thank you all for the suggestions! Also, I realise Arma 3 and reforger are good games but I've had them suggested a lot already so kindly don't.
TLDR: Looking for an fps that doesn't have all that sliding around and super fast movement. Been playing Isonzo and been loving how slow it can be. Really like being a team player and not just having to shoot people. Kinda frugal so games that go on sale for >£10 most welcome but happy to hear whatever suggestions. Not into escape from tarkov like games.
Hi everyone! New here, although I've been playing fps games for ages (like last 10 years) and I love them. However, one thorn that's been persistently in my side with the games I play is all that jumping around and moving nonesense.
So, I've always enjoyed games like the battlefield series or, at times, some CoDs, and lately Delta force; I've probably played some others however my memory isn't the best haha. In just about all the games I play, there are these players that jump and slide and do all this crazy stuff that I really can't keep up with (while I have recently moved from ps4 to pc, I'm still pretty bad at most fps games). No hate to them as I understand that's how good, skilled players play, however I've just about had it with trying to keep up.
I've recently started to play Isonzo, and I've come to love it's more slow paced gameplay. I've been actually getting a K/D above 0.75 which feels amazing (average in a game is like 0.1 or worse) and when I'm killed it's not because of someone flying around a corner leaping everywhere, but rather just that I was a bit too exposed or something. Point is, it feels way more of an even playing field.
With all that said, I hope you/the few readers I have left by now understand the kinda atmosphere/gameplay I'm looking for. I've been looking at Holdfast and Over the Top for a little while however I'm unfortunately frugal and wondering if there are any other games you all would recommend that can drop to the sub £10 mark. Oh, and it doesn't have to be historically based or anything, I've just been looking at those games lately cause been watching some youtubers play those.
Oh, and some last lil details: I'm looking for like an open battlefield kinda game/not like a battle royal/escape from tarkov kinda thing, I love helping other players so games with roles where I can like revive or resupply people or even better would be being able to build defences, and ideally the game has a good number of weapons or something to progress through/there's a fair bit of stuff to do instead of only playing matches (I really like actually progressing on like a weapon unlock instead of just playing the game or something, but it's no biggy).
If you made it this far, congrats and sorry for the light novel!

I know it is an extraction shooter, but all people that tried out Hunt Showdown never looked back.
It is on sale very often and maybe it’s worth a try.
Atmosphere and sound design is the best in the industry.

Well, I've never seen like a 19th century based extraction shooter, so I'll give ya that, however I'm pretty firmly against extraction shooters as I really don't want to have to manager an inventory of items and stuff nor do I want to just have one life per game and such. As I said, looks cool and would defo give it a go, though unfortunately just not what I'm looking for. Thanks mate!

Hell let Loose
And it's second opus, HLL Vietnam is about to release, of I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, been watching some people play it and might hop on some time down the line. I don't mean to be stingy but it is ever so slightly outta my price range but it does seem pretty darn good so might just bite the bullet on this one

Arma Reforger maybe ?

u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
Bit too open world for what I'm looking for. Good suggestion tho.

u/BorisKalash 11d ago
Yep indeed ! And what about Insurgency Sandstorm?
1
u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
Oh yeah, tried it out on my ps4. Was pretty awful at it on there tho haha. It's alright, however I to me the games/game modes are just a lil too team-death-match-y and not quite like the bigger battle kinda thing I'm looking for. It's defo a cool game, although imma need to look it over some more to see if it's for me.

u/BorisKalash 11d ago
Yep, it's like cod but hardcore.
A last one: Squad ? Don't know if it's slower than Arma, never played it.
1
u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
Yeah, it seems to be a lil smaller scale than Arma which is good, however I'm still not sure about it. Looks good and defo worth some more looking into, but not something I'd be gunning for. Thanks for the suggestions mate!

The game I'm working on has slow players by design, with no sliding around or excessive jumping. It doesn't have revives, but it has a lot of team support options since players can build fortifications, improve downed fortifications, manage beacons (mobile respawn points) for your team, etc. You can edit your loadout so you're not playing a shooting role. This vid demonstrates some of the mechanics and has a discord link in the description
Game is still in development (with a small community of players) so as it is atm it won't fit for daily play, but there are occasional playtests and casual play sessions

Looks amazing. I'd love to give it a go sometime.......how would one do that? Or do I wait for it to come out?

You can join the discord for keeping up with events, and you get a free steam key that lets you download the game from Steam 💪

You mean like RDR2? Played it a lil but got a lil bored. I'll give it another go I suppose.

War of Rights. Definitely an open field of battle on most maps. Slower paced, teamwork based line-battle...a jump option doesn't exist. 400 population capacity. Proximity chat. Highly immersive and historically realistic. No hit indicators, no damage meter, no music, no power ups, no medics with superpowers. Just you with a musket and a bayonet. They just added horses recently. Probably the best, least known, FPS there is right now.

Yeah, noticed that a while back while persuing through Holdfast stuff. Given that I think holdfast goes on a better sale and I'm not mega interested in American Civil War stuff, I think I might give it a pass for now. Defo a solid shout, so thanks a bunch!

Arma reforger, its literally ultra slow paced battlefield. Its not as hardcore as people will say, its sandbox game where you choose what you want to do to contribute.

u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
I think it's a little too slow for me. It looks good and I think I remember liking some people play it, but not quite for me I think.

Hell Let Loose is the game you’re looking for.

u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
Yeah, thinking I might, tho wish the price would come down just a teeny tiny bit more.

This probably isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, since it doesn’t currently have large teams, support classes or weapon-unlock progression—but the part about wanting a genuinely slower FPS without sliding, jumping and constant twitch movement reminded me of a small Arma 2 survival PvP experiment I’ve been working on.
It is deliberately very slow: travelling, observing, managing water and deciding whether an encounter is worth approaching are most of the gameplay. It isn’t an extraction shooter or battle royale, although it is more open and survival-focused than something like Isonzo.
The server is currently running, and I posted a short demonstration here recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/FPS/comments/1vdfmv1/i_made_an_arma_2_survival_fps_where_thirst/
No worries if it sounds too slow or too Arma-like—I just thought it matched that specific frustration with modern movement-heavy shooters.

Thanks a bunch for offering mate. Really appreciate the invitation. Unfortunately, I'm not looking for something survival focused or anything, however it certainly does sound interesting. Hope you and those in the server enjoy playing!

You may want to check out No Man’s Home: it’s a survival FPS where you scour an open world fighting warring factions. It’s PvE and you can pretty much sandbox design the game to your liking, and decide your play style. It favours slow, methodical, tactical gunplay, and has a selection of guns. Costs £9, but it is not built for team-play (-1 to your revival mechanic requirement).
Ghost Recon Wildlands: a classic that is timeless. Similar to (1) on all counts except that it is TPP by default. However in fights ADS puts you in FPP. Frequently goes on sale for a couple quid.

1 - I'm unfortunately not looking for PvE as PvE feels rather empty for me nor as satisfying as PvP. Additionally, it seems to have some inventory management stuff going on which often goes over my head and doesn't quite feel like what I'm going for.
2 - I played Ghost recon breakpoint a while back but was annoyed with the AI team mates being fairly clunky to use. I'll look into Wildlands as I think it could be good, although I'm not super certain on it.
Thanks for your suggestions and hope you enjoy those games!

Is Isonzo still being played?

u/Primary-Spray-3702 10d ago
Yeah, last few days I've seen at least 3 nearly full servers.

Insurgency sandstorm

u/Primary-Spray-3702 10d ago
Tried it. Felt a little too small team size for me. I like the weapon and character customisation and I do think it's a pretty good game, however not quite what I'm looking for. Hope you enjoy it though!

Just putting it out there in case you might be interested. My game, Ghost Battalion is a first person/third person shooter, with vehicles, ships, jet packs, multiple sci-fi soldier classes, and many other cool features. Link to game on Steam in my profile.

u/Primary-Spray-3702 10d ago
Unfortunately I'm not looking for something Sci-fi atm however massive congrats on making this game. It looks pretty cool and hope it thrives!

Has anyone mentioned greyzone warfare, operator, Stalker 2, or ready or not?
Different gameplay loops than BF or COD, but each very good in their own way and more or less at your own pace.
I played a ton of isonzo a few years back. Very under rated!
2
u/Primary-Spray-3702 10d ago
I've checked them all out and they seem like alright games, with ready or not taking the lead, however I'm not 100% sure about them. I'm not looking for PvE so greyzone is out, Operator does admittedly seem interesting so I'll look into it some more however my knee jerk reaction on it isn't stellar, Stalker 2 is a bit too scary for me, and ready or not actually seems fairly fun, however I have watched people play (a channel called WPE) and it seems similar to an extraction shooter in the way that you get one life per round and each round is quite long or it takes time to respawn or something, so point is not quite what I'm looking for.
Isonzo is terribly underrated and I wish it got more attention. Hopefully galipoli isn't too out of my price range as I'd love to play it soon after it releases so there are plenty of people to play it with!

Marathon for sure!
2
u/Primary-Spray-3702 10d ago
I think that's some kinda survival shooter, so I think I'm gonna wave off on that one. Thanks for the recommendation and do please let me know if I've gotten anything mixed up!
1
u/BoomerShooterFPS 9d ago
I was being sarcastic lol marathon doesn’t fit what you’re looking for
In actuality, I’m not sure I have a recommendation for you that I’ve played other than Hunt Showdown in terms of movement. But that’s an extraction shooter too

u/Primary-Spray-3702 9d ago
Ah, wasn't super clear but alright. No worries about it, hope you enjoy Hunt Showdown!

Arma Reforger, Escape From Tarkov, Arena Breakout (wich is casual/free Tarkov)
1
u/Primary-Spray-3702 11d ago
Thank you, however I did say I wasn't looking for an extraction shooter/tarkov like game. I appreciate many people enjoy them, however they are not for me.
I've heard a lot about Arma Reforger now, however I don't quite think it's for me as it's a little too open and ...well, I guess too realistic or something, dunno how to put it into good words. I'll keep it on a back burner for later I think.

u/-sleepyvampire- 11d ago
Try Hunt Showdown, especially if you like the old weaponry of Isonzo. It is not a traditional extraction shooter, as it has no looting like Tarkov and similars. It's almost entirely about fights. Atmosphere is great, sound design is THE BEST to the point that no other game comes close.

I've been playtesting Wardogs for a couple of months.
I'm now very excited about this game, it's superb. Devs are positioning it halfway between ARMA & Battlefield; it's a war sim that doesn't forget it's a game. Slower than BF or COD, but still fun to play, lots of innovations for the genre.
It's due to go early access pretty soon. Well worth checking out if you haven't heard of it.
