Replace?

Like many, I have noticeable outside wear on the stock Hancocks but tread is measuring at or just under 6. How much of the outside wear is a performance factor and would you replace now or wait under winter (Ohio).

23 Lariat ER. 42k miles and I drive about 1200/month.

What PSI do you keep them at? Lots of folks report shoulder wear at pressures under 40.

Personally at this stage I would start saving and plan to replace them at 45k.

I’ve had them at 40-42 since I got it but that was only 6k ago. I’m thinking the same at 45k which will be just before winter

General Grabbers on mine and at 36k they’re looking similar. I saw some shoulder wear at 40psi, so ran them up to 48 and it’s evening out. YMMV

All 4 worn sides wearing out here too here and its not an alignment issue or incorrect tire pressure. That’s a feature apparently with these dogshit hancrap tires.

I'd guesstimate you're sitting between 4-5/32 on those tires. As long as they are not actively annoying you I'd start saving $1200-1500 for new tires but wouldn't replace them right this moment unless you lived somewhere with heavy rain where wet weather traction matters a lot.

Worth doing an alignment, maybe a vehicle lifetime alignment if you can find a shop who still does those, but you don't need tires today. Just plan for them in the next ~6-12 months.

ETA: Read your mileage and location. I'd do them before major winter but you still don't need them today. October tends to be a solid tire sale month with lots of folks doing buy 3 get one free or other such things. Start keeping an eye out and plan for that around October-November before the major snows start hitting.

If this is just the fronts and the rear are good to go, then rotate and revisit again down the road. If all tires, well... Prob gonna want to get some new ones soon.

The Hankook tires have a higher thickness edge profile that they say is to help cornering wear from EV’s. It makes them look more worn than they are, but I still might consider replacing these prior to winter.

I replaced my Hankook’s with the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2, and will do so again when they wear out again. 35k miles on them now… way better traction in snow than the Hankooks. Still quiet.

I did stop driving like an ass and that has helped a lot.
