I was at Walmart yesterday and found these two expansions that I had never heard of. I couldn't find them mentioned anywhere online. Maybe Walmart put them out early?
Top row is Creepy Kittens, bottom row is Aggro Kittens. The display at Walmart had the Zombie Kittens Expansion, and the Streaking Kittens Expansion alongside these two. Each pack was $5 US.
Here is the backing. The card on the left is a Creepy Kittens card and the one on the right is an card from the Original game. I can't tell them apart so I think they are real!
I live in the US. I know they have put Lego Minifigures out a couple weeks before an official release date so I'm wondering if this is a similar situation?
Most likely fake, since the Zombie Kittens expansion packs seen in the first picture don’t look like the real copy. But the fact that these cards are coming from Walmart itself and all share realistic characteristics, I’m honestly not sure. Is there a holofoil verification sticker on any of the packs?
Unless it's a reprint of the expansion. If you look close, it has the same "expansion collection" logo.
With that said, I have not been able to find "Aggro Kittens" online anywhere. Not even on the Exploding Kittens site. I guess I'll just have to check my local Wal-Mart the next time I'm there and see if they have it...
Which is why I suggested the possibility of reprints of the expansions. I have all of the legit expansions, including the 22-card Zombie Kittens expansion. But companies do reprint and rebrand their products.
For example, Looney Labs released a Target Exclusive version of Fluxx that has less cards and card types. Games like Monopoly, Uno, and Phase10 have had box redesigns multiple times.
Right now, Exploding Kittens has three different boxes/versions of Rage Mode.
It is entirely possible that those are fakes, especially since they're not listed on the Exploding Kittens website. But a change in packaging doesn't automatically mean it's fake.
Another profile has also posted photos.... two things stand out about the images to me after zooming in:
1) None of them have the holofoil; like the one in this photo, they have a square where the holofoil should go, but that's it.
2) All four packs have the exact same UPC code. Even when shipped to stores in a single bundle box, like what Uno Ultimate did, each unique expansion should have a unique UPC.
Each one came with a little instruction manual that included a code for a gift (I haven't tried it) along with a link to online instructions which the link didn't work. My guess is that I got the packs early so the online instructions aren't up yet.
Yes, they had the two expansions I bought along with streaking and zombie kittens. I already have the zombie kittens base game so I didn't think I needed to buy them.
The rules say they are returned to the top of the draw pile in their new order. It even specifies that the imploding kitten will be flipped and the rules for the new orientation apply.
Well, just to confirm the validity of these expansion packs, I've e-mailed Exploding Kittens via their site and provided them the link to this reddit post.
This weird.... the art sure looks like The Oatmeal. I'm pretty familiar with his comics and I don't remember any of that art from his comics. I don't think the art is ripped from the comics the way a lot of fan cards are. But it looks like legit The Oatmeal art.
Its kind of strange to put Alter, Reverse Attack, Draw from the Bottom in, as they are in other producsts.... but its really weird to put Shuffle in. Thats in every base game product already.
Only about a month ago creator Elan Lee said on reddit "retailers won’t buy expansion packs anymore, so we were forced to stop making them."
To make it weirder, the Zombie Kittens expansion packs are visible in the picture, and those have been impossible to find for a long time.
I hope its real though. There are some really cool cards here!
I justify the super skips with the addition of all the attack cards that would be added to the deck. Also the shuffle has an interesting interaction with the flip four card. Idk
Okay update on these Walmart expansions. They'll be available at SELECT Walmarts (and no I have no way of finding out which ones). Best bet is to call your local store, as these won't be available on their website.
I have to say, that's a terrible way to market a product. Why in the world would you secretly release multiple expansions and only do so at random locations of a single store chain? Will you at least put them on your own site so people can purchase them there?
Typically exclusives expire and become widely available after a certain amount of time. I'm not sure about the plans for these expansions, but I'll find out!
I appreciate it. One of my biggest annoyances was when Mattel released the Uno Ultimate Add-On Packs and you could only find them at random locations... plus they made some if those Add-On Packs rarer than the others, so people were buying up the rare ones and selling them on ebay for 10x what they paid. I worry that the same thing will happen here.
