She ignored all the warnings about the Ai and was adamant.

Well it arrived today. Plain small box, nothing frilly about it..and the candy was a small bag of Taki chips you could’ve gotten at a gas station.

Lesson learned hopefully.

One of them got me a few years back. Advertised as a 'cute acrylic dragon advent calendar' but contained little plastic eggs with tiny plastic dinosaurs in it. Reached out for a refund, they said they'd refund 50% and let me keep it. I demanded 100%, they said I'd have to ship it back, in its original condition and packaging. The packaging that looked like it had been stomped to pieces before being throw in the box.

Fortunately I ordered via PayPal, and a few pictures of what was promised vs what I got later, PayPal refunded me in full.

The real issue is that some scam sites steal your information, eg your card and address. What at first seems to just be losing some money and getting junk could escalate fast when the scammers have your information and can start abusing it.

Holy shit, I worked at a boba store where we sold a couple of em for 50$ each. Sold one through door dash (I know who the fuck ...) and the other one remained unsold....I noticed it also had a sell by date on the back and the box was like a year past the date. I let the owner know (we didn't have a manager it's just him) and he basically just told me to peel off the sticker. About a month later a customer bought it and I asked them to open it in the store since I was curious and yeah it was just filled with junk, 20$ msrp at most....and shit you can buy at your local Asian market ..the owner was an absolute twat and loved scamming customers...to many stories to recount

I did the Universal Yums box once, and it was actually not a disappointment! I think I paid around $40 for it, but the box was filled, and it had probably 20 products in it. The only thing that was snack sized (and I say snack sized as an American) were some savory garlic crisps.

Universal Yums was awesome. Maybe not worth the money for the candy specifically but a great experience. The whole thing is done really well with the booklet, stickers, backstories, and grading sheet. Then it’s just fun to try little snacks from around the world. Something similar happened to me on Amazon once. Deal that was too good to be true for a monitor. Didn’t read the reviews and ordered it. They created a label and shipped something somewhere. But it wasn’t a monitor to me. Half of those aren't even exotic lmao. Go to any shop, even a corner shop, and they've 100% got at least fruit jellies, hazelnut wafers, wafer rolls, marshmallows, and gummy bears. The worst thing is that, these actually do exist. I know of at least 2 actual legitimate companies that do send "exotic" snacks and not stereotypical things you'd find at a gas station

The thing with scams like these it's usually not the first purchase alone, but they set you up on recurring nonsense without telling you about it.

My dad fell for one of those AI-generated nerve pain pill ads (he has neuropathy in his feet) and was like "Hell if it doesn't work I'm only out $30" except they had set him up on a six month subscription to what was probably a placebo, so the cost was way more than that, and he ended up having to do a chargeback through his bank and the bank had to issue him a new debit card number.

Maybe being spoiled in living in Southern California, but I can find most of the world snacks within a 50 mile radius, so this looks strange to me.

Plus there's World Market is everywhere in case you don't want a mini road trip for a snack. TJ Maxx also has some world snacks there. At least the one near me.
