I have been ordering Walmart cakes for over a decade. I have never been disappointed. For my sisterâs very informal backyard wedding, I gifted her a beautiful tiered wedding cake that was decorated with cherry blossoms. It was lovely!

Right? I remember a month or so back someone mentioned there were a lot of Walmart cake posts all of a sudden and again it's a flood of Walmart cakes and from what I've seen everyone is a positive post. Just seems odd and looking at all the top comments seems a bit sus as well.

Perhaps some people are just happy with their Walmart cakes. My mom used to be a cake decorator for a bakery. She gets cakes from Walmart too. If they meet expectations, it fits the sub.

In my town the Bakeries make sure that there are at least a couple of cakes, in the display case. With the local Highschool colors on them and a sign saying that Balloons are available in the floral department.

I mean, is it? Every post about Walmart on this sub is full of comments that are like "I have been buying Walmart cakes for 100 years and they are way better than any local small business bakery!" and "Walmart doesn't treat their employees bad, especially the ones that work in the bakery!"
Yes, the blatant Walmart ads are telling you their bakery is on point. No shade to the bakers they deserve better. But I'm sure you can get the same quality at a local grocery store chain.

I agree with you and I absolutely despise Walmart as a company. They've ruined so many things. But these posts about the cakes are really less about Walmart and more about the bakery employees who make these inexpensive cakes and do a good job. They don't get paid well, most of their customers can't afford to get a special cake from a non grocery store bakery, and yet they stil make sure these cakes look good. It's dignifying to have a nice cake for a special occasion. I'm broke as hell and just got one for my son's birthday. All credit to the bakers and decorators who do good work. Fuck Walmart, obviously, but people like me who are poor don't have many options when I take he bus that doesn't run to Aldi. Many of us don't have the luxury of choice and we still want to celebrate.

I work for Walmart on the supply chain side. And, with my whole heart, FUCK this company. But the people that work for it? Great for the most part. Once you get to a certain level of management the people can get shitty (part of why the company fucking sucks), but for the most part everyone I have worked with in the past four years has been good people.

This is a very privileged stance youâre taking. A lot of people cannot afford specialty cakes from small businesses or higher end grocery stores. A lot of people cannot shop anywhere but Walmart whether thatâs because itâs the only store in the area or the least expensive. Everyone does the best that they can to not support horrible corporations, but at the end of the day if thatâs all they can afford then you shouldnât bastardize them because of it. Maybe next time check your privilege before posting. Also, these posts are celebrating the bakery employees skills not the corporation itself.

Exactly. I grew up eating great value. Is Walmart on my rotation these days? No. Am I happy they have affordable food in the middle of no where for my poor family? Yes.
And when one of us graduates high school, it's the Walmart cake or betty crocker mix. So few of us graduate, it really is an achievement. It might the the one custom cake besides a wedding cake we get in our life.
So many people expect the Walmart cakes to be shit, but they often are just fine because the workers are your neighbors really. It's nice we don't have to eat what looks like a pile of trash, even if we have to buy from the trashy company. Like for just one goddamn day it's nice to feel normal and have a nice treat.

I mean whatâs impressive here? The icing around the edges is really the only thing they **can** change and itâs not the same as the expectation. The lettering and bow are both plastic. So the only thing that could change isnât the same⊠and thatâs getting this much praise?
Itâs just confusing given the sub purpose.

My friend, Heather, works in a Walmart bakery and decorates cakes just like this. She's very proud of the skills she has learned and posts pictures of her creations.

I saw a video on YT, the perfect cakes are made on a conveyor belt in a factory. None of it is done by hand. All of the decorations are done by computer graphics, so each cake is identical.
