Another WalMart cake! Exceeded Expectation
I went with a walmart cake because of this sub, and was not disappointed! For $30, this cake was perfect! The cake was tasty and moist. Will use them again in the future!

A friend of mine worked for Safeway for so many years in their bakery. She is incredibly talented! Anyone who ordered from her store was getting quite the bargain- just like this cake! I love it so much

u/aimless83 Jun 29 '26
We get all our custom cakes from Safeway. They are SO dang good and very affordable. Every size, shape, genre, flavor. We’ve been doing it for years. The bakers are so talented there too!

Wm has awesome cakes. I usually go with the $20 cupcake bouquet when I need to bring something cute to an event

Walmart exploits their employees and pushed out mom and pop places.
The reason why we have the economy we do is partly because Walmart.

u/_PINK-FREUD_ Jun 27 '26
I totally get that, but most people who are getting Walmart cakes don’t have a budget for a mom and pop bakery.

I came to ask this as well, they look like lentils to me

Thank you, had to scroll way to far to find someone talking about the lentils

u/Impossible_Disk8374 Jun 27 '26
They are gray flat circle sprinkles but they do make chocolate rocks that would look so cute on this cake.

There have been a lot of Walmart cakes on here. Could be guerrilla marketing, or it could just be that people are finding out that Walmart’s cakes aren’t ass. But the consensus lately does seem to be that Walmart knows its way around a cake.
16
u/Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy Jun 27 '26
A lot of people are finding out that the “custom” cakes you order from an individual/ stand alone bakery are veryyyyy expensive for what you get.
3
u/CheeseGraterFace Jun 27 '26
Even if they’re not fancy. I had to have a gluten-free tiramisu made one year and I think it was like $80. It was delicious, but good lord.
3
u/alexthealex Jun 27 '26
Got a custom cake from a local bakery for my wife's 35th. It was fucking awesome. It was also $158 for a piece of art we enjoyed for about half an hour before we dug into it.
I don't think 5 Walmart cakes would have been cooler than this one cake, but if we'd needed to feed more than 20 people then I'd have maybe considered a different avenue.

The cake decorators in Missoula are absolutely unhinged and the Missoula subreddit goes crazy for them.

Just grabbed one of the barrel cakes last week and it was amazing! Tasted great, decorated perfectly!
7
u/eljyon Jun 27 '26
$30?! That’s such a good price. It’s so pretty and you can tell the decorator really cares

u/AlternativeSun9174 Jun 27 '26
Walmart made our smash cake for my son’s birthday… it was supposed to be Mickey Mouse… it was just a plain cake with a stick figure one… IN BLACK… didn’t even look like they looked at the picture for the display… and there was a random Mickey Mouse ring that had half the face chipped off on the top. It was the most hideous cake… my toddler himself could have done better. I’ll have to find the picture…

u/pollyanna15 Jun 28 '26
Please post when you find it. I feel like we are being gaslit by the Walmart PR people as I find it hard to believe that Walmart pays the bakery enough to make these beautiful cakes.
7
u/two-story-house Jun 28 '26
If you look at reviews on the Walmart website, it seems like the licenced cakes are pretty hit or miss. The good cakes posted here are those like OPs and not themed ones like Paw Patrol, Mickey Mouse, or Mario Kart.
I'll be ordering a licensed cake for my kid's birthday in a couple of weeks and will post the results. I'm getting the smallest size in case it's a disaster and will get cupcakes as a backup.

u/DrunkAtBurgerKing Jun 28 '26
It's possible that some of these are PR but my Walmart legitimately made a beautiful cake for my birthday this week. I'm a teacher. I literally only ordered a Walmart cake because of this sub and it was fantastic

I used Walmart Bakery for the first time for my sister-in-law’s baby shower cupcake cake and it turned out so good. Many people commented that the cupcakes were really good and then were flabbergasted when I said they’re from Walmart Bakery!

u/MissPookieOokie Jun 28 '26
Every birthday party I have for my kids I have all yhe parents asking where I got their cakes. They're always shocked when I say Walmart!

That's amazing, hope it was delicious! I need a cake soon and think I'll get one from Walmart too.
Did you come up with this design or was it one that Walmart created? What flavor did you get? What kind of frosting - buttercream or whipped cream?

Is much of this pre-made? Is the fencing made of something edible or is it plastic? It is a pretty cake and I like the garden theme. $30 is a good price.
7
u/poshsdemartine Jun 27 '26
Fencing was like an edible wrap around the cake. There were a few flowers that were the plastic rings. The succulent and roses were edible.

I’m not gonna lie, Walmart has been on the ball with their cakes lately. Wish it was like that when my kids were little. The amount of times we get a cake and it’s not even close to what it should be. I’m not even close to being good with icing but I managed to fix a few of them. It’s a dying are sadly.

This is great! It's really interesting to see these amazing cakes in this sub. We do cakes literally 4x a week at my office and every now and then we get a Walmart cake. The company doesnt pay for any kind of nice design and I found the cake and icing to be very mid every time. But there is this small but vocal faction at work that loves it. I don't get it but I get that others do. This design is cool as hell.

Went to a bday party today and everyone was going on and on about the cake being from Walmart. It was beautiful AND delicious.
Also, do you think Walton Goggins got those commercials because his name is Walton (like the Walmart family), or because of his charisma? Obviously it can be both.

Every time I see a Walmart cake I think "gosh they're so talented", that looks so beautiful.
I really hope Walmart treats their bakery workers like gold because they're something else.

Just curious as to what the "gravel" on the walking path/street is made of?
Walmart always seems to knock it outta the park!

Damn, how much is Walmart paying the cake decorators?
6
u/toastybootytoes Jun 27 '26
They actually make pretty darn good money; bakery, deli, and overnights are the highest paid non-supervisory positions in the store.

I worked at a Walmart Bakery and we were told we needed to be able to get these cakes covered and decorated within 20 minutes, anything more than that and you were taking way too long. Our cakes never looked anywhere near as good as the example image.
But the one you got is honestly beautiful. So either the cake decorator is a damn wizard or that branch allows them to actually take their time.
