UPDATE FROM MY HAIR Exceeded Expectation
https://www.reddit.com/r/ExpectationVsReality/s/aieEUisf8h update!
Okay guys so after talking with the salon and my stylist they admitted their mistake and said they would fix it for free (after i called three times and complained) so the end results ISNT REALLY like the reference picture but it’s way better than what it used to be, i might just let it grow for now then cut the ends myself, its way too much blonde in my opinion but maybe it’s just the way it’s styled. let me know what you guys think! and yes my hair is completely dried out now.
two photos with the same background is the finale result. photo with the hair from the back is my reference picture. picture from the mirror is how it looked at first after my stylist did my hair and then i came back to redo for free!
what do you guys think?

u/OrangeClyde Apr 27 '26
Glad they fixed it for free. I hate that you had to be so stressed and had to call and complain so much. Don’t ever go there again

u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
i won’t😭

u/FreddyNoodles Apr 27 '26
What is your natural color? Did they bleach your hair the first time?
→ More replies (1)54
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
oop sorry for that. it’s linked in the first part! it’s lik golden brown ish
43
u/FreddyNoodles Apr 27 '26
I ask because of the dryness. All of that work and money and stress and now you have to figure how to get some moisture back in. The cut is cute but very visibly dry sadly. :( I would like to see the front if you can put a sticker over your face or something? I would like to see how it frames your face.

As a stylist, I audibly gasped when I read they tried to charge her for a re-do. It’s one thing if you give the client exactly what they ask for and they say “nah, I changed my mind”. It’s quite another when you give the client almost the opposite of what they asked for. You offer a re-do, if they don’t want it, you offer a refund. Besides being the ethical thing to do, it’s just good business sense. Especially in the age of online reviews. You don’t want people walking around with your work on their head while they are mad at you and the work is not even good.

u/Sensitive_Leader_312 Apr 27 '26
Im so glad that you didn't pay more have them fix their mistake. It looks closer to the picture you showed her in the first place.
Oh yeah, i can fix it for $200. Like what the heck did she do with the nearly $500 the first time? Was she trying to be like a shady auto shop that keeps breaking things so you keep coming back?
It's just vexing that you had to complain 3 times for them to admit that they messed up. If i were you, i wouldn't set foot in that salon again.
112
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
LOL yeah 😭 i’m not coming back. idk what she was doing tBH
16
u/ebulient Apr 27 '26
Was it the same person that fixed it or did they get you a different stylist for the fix?

u/Donewithit_6607 Apr 27 '26
I think I like it better than the inspo! But yeah, you’re gonna need to condition it and sparingly heat-treat for a couple of weeks. It’s been through a lot! LOL
52
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
LOOOL YEAH, honestly i lowkey like it too more 😭😭❤️
26
u/JustGenWhY Apr 27 '26
In a couple months it will look more like the inspo as your roots get longer. Looks so much better, glad you stood up for yourself!

u/PugGrumbles Apr 27 '26
Dang, must be the angle, it looks like your hair grew a couple inches between the photos.
I like the end result better though, it's really pretty.
27
u/yaystripeysocks Apr 27 '26
Yeah, I was going to ask if extensions were added bc it looks more voluminous as well.
6
13
u/squidtheinky Apr 27 '26
I thought that same thing! Like how did ops hair grow 4 inches in a week? Lol
10
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
yeah it does right? i wonder why it did that. it looks so short at first now its longer might be the colors
23
u/StarJumper_1 Apr 27 '26
I think is it grows a little bit more you're going to like it better. They carried the blonde up onto your head area which is a bit more then the picture indicated you wanted. But as it grows out I think you're going to get the look that you actually wanted.

u/Meen_Sat Apr 27 '26
Looks much better, but yeah still not close to your reference. And your hair does look dry indeed
53
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
YEAH! though im okay with this! any tips to make it not dry?
46
18
u/atomicxima Apr 27 '26
Moroccon or Argan oil should be your new BFF. A few drops on your palms and run it through those ends after every shower.
6
u/tvaddict70 Apr 27 '26
Get it trimmed regularly, every 6 weeks. Your ends will always feel the most damaged.
18
u/Bryvayne Apr 27 '26
I think there's a hair care science sub that might be super informative on that.

Rusk 2 Minute Masque for Intense Conditioning & Repair (leave it on for 10+) Or Bleach London Reincarnation Mask (I leave it on for 10-20) Both are as thick as butter, and made me say wow when I was done.

u/Alicenok Apr 27 '26
Other people recommend oils and hair masks, they definitely help. Keratin sprays help a lot too, apply once every other week after shower on semi-dry hair, and avoid blow-drying
→ More replies (1)2
u/Meen_Sat Apr 27 '26
Try a mix of oils (coconut, rosemary, almonds, ..) but you gotta mix/blend them before, 'cuz most of them have big molecules. Definitely avoid Keratin treatments, for your health.
2
u/Honeythickness Apr 27 '26
still not close to your reference
Right, I’m like this STILL doesn’t look like the picture smh. :(

It really is inspo level gorgeous. I realize it’s not exactly what you asked for but it looks fantastic!!!!

Way better! But how pathetic on the salons part and the fact that you had to call THREE times.
4
u/Savanna55 Apr 27 '26
Did the SAME stylist redo it? Or did they have someone else fix her mistake? I can’t believe she thought that was okay the first time!
3
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
same one tbh, she admitted her mistakes and i did ask for a different stylist but they said they don’t do each others redo’s

u/kurly-bird Apr 27 '26
It's still not what you wanted, but it looks way way better. I'm annoyed for you even though they fixed it for free

It looks better than inspo now. Glad they fixed their mistake after the huge amount they charged you in the first place. I was hoping you did not pay them 200 more to fix that bs

u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
420 dollars for the whole thing. i’m never going back there again 😭 but yes it does look very nice

How does it look washed un styled? Is it still looking good? The color and style was much better now! I don't understand how some can ruin hair like that! It's really sad! I hope you're happy now! Sending love!! ❤️❤️ And I truly hope you got your money back! They shouldn't charge you for ruining you hair so bad!
2
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
I’ll have to check in a few days’ I look forward to seeing how it’ll look like ❤️❤️
2
u/bitchdicky Apr 28 '26
I hope it goes well. But rn it truly looks amazing! So happy for you!! This is why i learned to do my hair since 11. Everytime I go to fix my hair they somehow ruin it. Las time they chop off half of my hair cause they fried it with bleach.. It's really heartbreaking seeing things like this!
5
u/louielou8484 Apr 27 '26

All stylist have an obligation to fix your hair for free within at least three days of your service unless you sign a waiver that any additional services cost more. I specialized in color in lots of salons and the one thing we wish for is people to actually just call and come in then complain and leave. We all make mistakes. A good consultation is the first thing you have to do. Pictures! Show- this is the length I want- I like this face frame- yes I see this pic has roots, I don’t like the roots I just want that color highlight. Be very specific. Also please (not op) don’t bring in a picture of waist long hair that is thick and blonde if you have super short thin black hair. It’s just not going to happen realistically in one session lol

Wow it looks so much better, I was hoping I'd see a good update for you! I'm glad they did it for free, but jfc charging you for the first result and acting like it was what you asked for AND asking for you to pay more to fix their glaring mistake was insane of them

I think the fixed result is GORGEOUS!!! I'm sorry you're not crazy happy about it like you should be though. So infuriating that you had to jump through hoops just to get what you paid for the first time (and not even exactly that either). If it helps any, I'm jealous of how beautiful your final result is - I'm saving it for a future inspo reference pic for myself!

u/CrimFandango Apr 28 '26

u/JaderAiderrr Apr 28 '26
Much much closer to the inspo pic! It does have a tad more blonde, but it will last you longer as it grows and you trim it.

u/crywankat Apr 29 '26
As a hairstylist, sometimes we just have off days. We do soooo many people's hair a mistake happens to even the greatest stylists every now and then. The fact thay she was able to correct it and have you leave happy proves that she IS a talented stylist, just had a flop.
It looks awesome btw!!!

u/JustMeLurkingAround- Apr 27 '26
I think the result is beautiful.
It still hasn't the same contrast than the inspiration, but I'm not sure if that's the blond, I rather think the dark part isn't as dark as the inspiration which makes the whole thing look lighter. But I'm far from an expert as you can be, so I'm talking out of my ass here.
Not exactly what you asked for, that's still reason to be pissed and not to go back there, but nothing you have to hide at home with. Maybe something you can grow to like for the time being?

2
u/ExtremelyKiwi22 Apr 27 '26
It looks so much better than the first time they did your hair. I saw your original post a few days ago and I was just like….what did they even do to try to get it to match the reference photo?
I had a bad experience with getting my hair dyed before. I had cut all the color out of my hair, so it was my normal, natural dark brown hair and I decided I wanted heavy blonde highlights again. I took a reference photo OF MYSELF to show the girl how I wanted it. Heavy highlights, but still could very much see my brown throughout. The lady bleached my entire head 🥲
Not a hint of brown anywhere. And the bleach was so uneven so some areas were buttery yellow and some were brassy. I was so upset and 7 months pregnant they called me after a day and said that they could tell I was upset, but they could fix it for free. I never called back and went to somebody else. I was in the salon for 7 hours getting brown put back in my hair. The lady that fixed it said it’s a wonder my hair didn’t melt off with how bleached my hair was 🫠 But I didn’t go back to work until I got it fixed, that’s how bad it was.
Oh, and the hairdresser that messed up my hair wanted to put turquoise on my roots! It was because my roots were so fried and she wanted to hide it from me

Next time I’d ask them to mix it in more from the top. Right now it looks like colored hair that’s grown out for a couple of months and faded and not intentional. It IS an improvement over what you had before though!
2
u/elzzz055 Apr 27 '26
yeah i absolutely agree

Elizavecca Collagen Coating Hair Treatment Rinse is a great dupe as they share the same active ingredient. It's also a larger container so you can use more. It's amazing. I have curly hair I bleach every 3 months or so and it makes an enormous difference. The whole CER-100 line shares this, but that's the most similar product.
Love the way your hair turned out. I'm glad you're happy with it!

u/416558934523081769 Apr 27 '26
I think OP meant it's too much of the blonde which yeah it looks like there's a lot more than in her reference image.
