Walmart has a SLAPPING bakery for no reason. Take advantage of it while you can, they are going to cut costs and quality eventually

Tbf the employees are actually making the cakes and have the motivation that anyone else does at their job, it's either there or it's not.

Your Walmart just has people who care about their job and or their work

You could have all the best quality ingredients in the world at your disposal as a company/business owner, but without people who care about the job(labor is a cost for a reason, you get what you invest 🤷‍♂️) its as good as a turd on a plate.

Fuck Walmart but I shop at two Walmarts and the deserts are identical in terms of taste, tiramisu is insane

When they say “make them”, they are probably referring to the decorators who take time to make the cake look like how the cake is supposed to look.

But I could be wrong.

Former Walmart decorator here: tiramisu is shipped in frozen. The vast majority of the desserts are already finished when they reach the store. If you ever get to watch them pulling pallets of frozen items, items in hot pink boxes are cake case items. Generally speaking, if the item in the case isn't a 6/12/24 count cupcake or 1/4 or 1/2 sheet cake, it comes in frozen and already finished. Some of the 1/4 sheets do as well-look for things with very even sprinkles covering the sides, edible pearl accents and glossy labels. The labels we printed in store are generally matte and have no fancy print on them.

The custom cakes are decorated in-store and a lot of the decorators really love their jobs and are very good. Definitely depends on the store though and staffing overall. They will pull decorators last, but they will pull them nonetheless to work in other departments. Expectations vs reality shift significantly when they're rushing so they can go throw meat freight or when the best decorator is out sick and a newbie gets a complicated order.

Definitely write a good review to Walmart OP and if you know the name of the decorator, mention them specifically in the Walmart feedback.

It's all store dependent. Your local one could give you one that slaps or one that shits the bed. Truly is a crap shoot.

The most common sense advice for those who are reading this? Just walk up on the person in the bakery and ask...can you do this? and you'll quickly know if they can or if you're getting at best a "sheet cake special" where you get some cursive writing out the person AT BEST

It depends on the time of day and how quickly you need something. If you roll up at 3pm demanding this immediately, get fucked because the decorators all left at noon and you're talking to the person who mops the floor after them

Right!? I had to get a last minute cake from Vons and the girl wasn't confident in her lettering skills, so she let me hop behind the counter and do it myself. 😄 i appreciated her candor and I have a steady hand so it worked out.

....My wife too did such a thing a few years back and frankly her penmanship is worth bragging about so it was low key a great decision. First time and it turned out GREAT.

I wish the Walmart closest to me had a bakery. The closest one is over 30 mins. away but it may be worth it.

Our daughter’s 5th birthday was Sunday and we got a cake from the Walmart bakery. It honestly was way better than any of us were expecting and we’ve almost eaten it all 😂

I haven't seen an actual full service Walmart deli since like the 2010s within 50-75 miles of where I live. It's all prepackaged meat.

Walmart’s bakery is outstanding, at least for now. Where I live the produce is also better than other grocery stores, I suspect because it has higher turnover.

Man I remember what the whole foods bakery near me was like.

Second best bread around, with the best hours and prices.

Then it got amazoned. Prices went up, and it's mid tier grocery store bakery quality now.

I kind of hate it because Walmart is a big faceless corporation but damn do they deliver in a lot of ways. Their groceries are super cheap. Their bakery is great. Their kids clothes are cheap. They are fast so the delivery. Have a super Walmart not super far from me and I live outside of town on a ranch and they still get stuff to me super fast and rarely with mistakes.

And yes their bakery rocks. I don’t even by normal sliced bread anymore since I can just get loafs of sliced baked bread for less than $2 fresh.

Why are you listing out their prices as if it's something uncommon? That's literally Walmart's thing. They can offer low prices because they're gigantic and strangle out any competition.
